  1. April 30th... they're just allowing extra time for Son of Beasts repairs.... bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!
  2. I LOVE YOU
  3. I was in the last seat on the train in the University of Dayton hoodie... hope to put faces with names in the future!
  4. Haha I was also there for The Beast last trains! But I dont know anyone from the site here in person:( But I figured there'd be a few there!
  5. I believe we all are. Hopefully some of our long burning questions will finally have answers... Have fun tomorrow Terp!
  6. Thanks Terpy, just renewed it
  7. I have a question. I have a 2010 Gold Pass, and am planning on doing the 69.99 upgrade before the end of the month. I also plan on going to the park twice this upcoming weekend. If I upgrade my pass to a 2011 gold Pass, will they not let me in? Edit: forgot to say im doing the online upgrade so I will have the same physical pass, which is why im concerned
  8. I don't see how either SoB or TR could be considered a "great" attraction unless these are to be included: Great Hype? Yes. Great Expense? Yes. Great Downtime? Yes. Great Headache? Yes. Great Attraction? I suppose that is a matter of opinion. Yes, actually, it is. Despite what you think, some people actually enjoyed these two rides. Some of us are still hanging on to them, too.
  9. As a Son of Beast fan, no one sympathizes with you more than I do. It's sad to see great attractions of the past fall by the wayside of Cedar Fair, especially ones we have personal connections to. Here's to hopin...
  10. I was actually in line the other night when this happened. I was next to get on, with one more group behind us, when they told people to stop lining up there. I asked why and they said that they just wanted to take some weight off of the train. So I assume it's just because it's close to the end of the season, plus it's cold (this was friday night - mid 40's) I'll bet they don't want to stress the carts anymore than they have to at this point in the year
  11. heard a guy today near SoB say to a passing area supervisor, "hey, is that big wooden thing gonna be closed all day?" the area supervisor looked back with that 'are you kidding me' face, saying "it's been closed for almost 2 years" i laughed so hard
  12. haha no worries we all do it from time to time
  13. I've been there the last 4 friday nights, and flight deck has been open every time. Did they close it?
  14. That is not the reason Son of Beast was closed or is closed. I'm sorry i was misinformed. I was just under that impression No need to apologize. For those of us who don't have inside information, there are few other impressions we could have. Most information released to the public that I can find points to what you said. The ride was closed after the report from a rider, and remains closed because the park is not happy with its condition. Cinci Enquirer, June 22 2009 Cinci Enquirer, Nov 14 2009 WCPO, July 27 2009 WCPO, March 16 2010 WLWT, June 24 2009 WLWT, March 19 2010 thanks a lot for that. I really don't want to bring false information to these boards. I will admit though, that I'm now curious as to why it is closed...
  15. And one could spend days spotting old Paramount stars throughout the park & parking lot... Little pieces of the park's history are alive everywhere, and it's always fun to find them. I would love very much to visit the prop graveyard, or whatever the devil Kings Island calls it. Last time I saw a photo from above, the Tomb Raider: The Ride sign was clearly visible. I would literally pay big money for that... Perhaps they ought to have a garage sale! I mean, worst-case-scenario, if Son of Beast is demolished, some here would pay a pretty penny for a car from it! And really, it's not like they could be re-sold, since they're specially designed for the ride's wider track... HA I love that ride so much id pay a pretty penny for a piece of wood from it, let alone a car...
  16. I noticed that too and thought it was a tad inappropriate for a family-oriented park (Haunt time of the year or not)
  17. Yes I have seen it. It's one of the most hopeful bits of info we SoB supporters have. But a lot could have changed since March...
  18. Terpy, choosing his words very carefully: That is not the reason Son of Beast was closed or is closed. I will not be elaborating further on that matter. I'm sorry i was misinformed. I was just under that impression
  19. That is completely understandable, and unfortunate at the same time. I had the same feeling with The Bat back in the early 80's. But it didn't happen on just any coaster. It happened on a coaster that has an extremely poor record. I don't see how all of SoB's "incidents" can be "coincidences" given the amount of coasters Worldwide. Hopefully, to me anyways, the ride is brought back safer and more enjoyable, so that everyone can enjoy it. I'll miss the original, but I'd rather have something than nothing
  20. You are correct, none are in SoB's class. They have not had the issues or injuries SoB has had and most are still operating- for a reason. Oh, and I thought this discussion was about wood coasters. Anyway, just because there are more steel coasters being constructed does not mean wood coasters are becoming rare as you previously mentioned. Aside from that, the money that woud be invested for a SoB TG treatment could very easily be used to construct another fantasic wood coaster. That would solve your "rarity" concern. I will admit, SoB was built during my childhood, and was my first big coaster. I have an attachment to it. I don't want it to leave. Also, SoB was running normally on June 16th, 2009, when it was shut down. The only reason that it is currently closed is because someone called claiming that after they rode the ride on May 31, they had a blood vessel burst in their brain. Now I understand that is incredibly serious, and SoB could have been the cause, but that could happen on any roller coaster, and there was no evidence that SoB was to blame. Closing it was a precaution.
  21. Now take a step back and think about what you just said. Why would SoB hold those records that long? Is it because SoB is that grand of a coaster? Or is it because other parks don't see the big deal in breaking records? The wooden coaster is becoming more and more rare. Given your 10 year watermark (2000-2010), there have been 57 new wood coasters constructed. I do not consider that number to be rare by any means. (source- rcdb.com) In steel coaster catagory, this discussion has been about wood coasters. 57 New wooden coasters, and how many of them surpass SoB's speed, height, and drop? The number of new woodies may be high, but none are in SoB's class Also, my point was that there are far more steel coasters being built than wooden, with 90 steelies having opened since 2000 compared with 57 woodies. (http://www.rcdb.com/...=2000&ty=1&ot=2) Edit: I am sorry. The 90 steelies was just the number of them constructed in the year 2000 alone. My search wasn't right. i apologize. The actual number of Steel coasters that have opened from 2000-2010 is 907.
  22. Now take a step back and think about what you just said. Why would SoB hold those records that long? Is it because SoB is that grand of a coaster? Or is it because other parks don't see the big deal in breaking records? The wooden coaster is becoming more and more rare. Why not want to keep a world record holder around? It's a fun ride if you like it. As for breaking records, the overall record for tallest and fastest has been broken several times in the past 10 years.
  23. Absolutely it can be said. Some may have considered the ride rough, but every wooden roller coaster is to an extent. It has been up for ten years now, and still holds 2 WORLD records (and it started with 3). I think we take that fact for granted. The ride may have its issues, but it gives a superstar to the park. I know Diamondback is great (I love the ride), but it's not setting any world records like SoB. SoB had been standing for 10 years. Has it been up for 10 years? No. Does the ride have issues? That is an understatement... Holding a world record does not make a coaster enjoyable or good. There are countless coasters that have never been close to any type of record, and are absolutely fantastic coasters. I didn't say that non record holding coasters were less enjoyable. Also, when I said that SoB has been up for ten years, I didn't mean in a ride-that-is-operating sense. I meant that it has held 2 world records for that long. Which is a pretty big deal. Along with The Beast, KI has something no other park in the world has. To me, that is something worth keeping
  24. Absolutely it can be said. Some may have considered the ride rough, but every wooden roller coaster is to an extent. 25. I guess you're right. I'd just assumed they'd be a little rusted by now...
