The theming KI had pre-Paramount days was amazing. Paramount brought the park down in general and Cedar Fairs seems to have cleaned the place up... but to me in the few visits I've had under Cedar management, it feels like a McDonald's. It feels like a franchise of a chain and all Cedar parks must be alike. I hate that. I hate the pop music on International Street. I'm not anti-change, Cedar can bring in the big coasters. But I've seen parks with no theming, or very weak in the different sections of the park and it feels like someone just plucked up all these steel monsters and put them in a car park. Not nice. I don't want to see a coaster over international Street. I want to see the flags of all the countries and roaming entertainers and people just feeling like they stepped into another world for a day. So the answer, for me, is theming theming theming: keeping in mind the tradition of the park while embracing the new and keeping the areas so individual that it feels like magic. You can do a lot with a little. Anyone remember that there used to be a turkey puppet near the Festhaus? He would insult everyone. These kinds of little touches make a massive difference. Otherwise, it's just Cedar Point's ugly kid sister and always will be because there will always been the "latest" new coaster. That's from the perspective of someone who grew up in the park and has visited as an adult not more than a handful of times.

I love that everyone assumes exotic means animals. But on the topic, when that area was Wild Animal Habitat back there, was there an island of monkeys? I remember that there was. But I was small and can't seem to find any mention anywhere. Any oldies here confirm that for me? I thought it was in the middle of that section of the park?

Smoothest and nicest ride on The Racer and The Beast is the 2nd to last seat.

Abandoned Theme Parks
girlafraid replied to PhantomTheaterKiss's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I found that page a few weeks ago too! Been loving looking through and I so want to go on an expedition! I think Spree Park in Germany does concerts and guided tours amoungst the rubble now. That might be on the cards... Has anyone been for a nose around Americana? Wonder what's been done or removed recently? -
Would LOVE to see this. Can it be purchased? I can't watch it out of the States. YoutubeGB hates me!

Tips for First Time Coney Visit
girlafraid replied to CoasterGeek101's topic in Coney Island Central
I went up last year with the kids on a weeknight after 5pm because they had the special pricing. My entire extended family ended up trickling in after work and we didn't wait for anything, rode our hearts out for 3 hours, and I thought I was going to die on the Super Round Up. My 4 year old loved the Python, my Dad loved telling me where everything was before KI opened, we had fun races on the slide, and Dad tried to kill me on the Rock O Plane. What a horrible little thing that is! It's good for a couple of hours with all age groups, but you really should take my Dad with you to tell you about the history of the place. hehe! -
Feel the grip of Vortex! (and other ramblings)

sweet! I may need one! -
Thank you. I measured them as they both had hospital appointments for seperate things recently. 4 year old is 43.5 inches and 5 year old is 45. I'm gutted they won't be on the any big roller coasters.Absolutely gutted. I rode The Racer, Bat, Screamin Demon when I was 4-5! Those are very high height limits. Thomas is able to ride nearly everything at Chessington except the Vampire, and that messed up snake thing. There's a place where you can get them a wristband saying how tall they are, yes? Thinking of doing the 2 day thing and doing one child day and one grown up day. I was at the park 3 years ago for one day, but they were babies then. We did Coney last year and they absolutely LOVED that and were able to ride everything that they wanted to, as well!

Feel the grip of Vortex! (and other ramblings)
girlafraid replied to matthunterross's topic in Kings Island
I miss the original Kings Island font! Remember when Vortex was put in and my mom called me a chicken trying to talk me into riding it with her. Thank you for this. x -
thanks for that. I'm in Ft Thomas, KY so it's only a 30 minute drive. It's just getting an adult who's not working to come with me as would be not so much fun on my own with a 4 and 5 year old! So looking forward to this. Been looking at pictures and videos all week. You know it's been 15 years since I've ridden The Beast?! Last time I was there was 3 years ago and got on everything else but the "new" stuff (Delirium, Invertigo, Diamondback) cause of the queues. I went to Chessington and rode the runaway train though. LOL! People having trouble fitting in Diamondback? I've got big thighs... how big are we talking here? My brother laughed and said "don't worry, you'll be fine" but I read through the boards as it's a topic that comes up a lot and it seems that people get turned away from it quite regularly? I know, I know, the test seat. Think they'd bring a test seat over to let me try NOW?

Thank you all so much. If I go the week of the 20 something, the park is only open until 8, unless i go on Friday 23rd. Is a Friday going to be rammed?

The husb is barely going to be able to be drug in there at the price as it is. He definitely won't splurge for the Fast Lane! How busy is the park these days? We always went up on Wednesday... from like 1980-1996... so, that would be the last time i remember going up regularly and it was usually a walk on everything midweek bar the coasters.

Hello! Haven't posted or been to KI in a very long time. I'm going home in August (a whole month yay!!) and making KI visit a priority. My family went up Saturday and I need to get my butt on that Diamonback. Question is, what day is the best day to go up? We'll be buying tickets for 2 adults and 2 children and I want to go when the US kids are back in school as it will be quieter? But looks like the park has limited hours starting mid August? What about a ride on The Beast in the dark then? 23rd going to be super crowded? I really want to go on a quiet day to get the most ride time possible. Thanks for you views. I know I hardly ever post, but I stalk quite a bit. Makes my heart happy to hear about good times at the park I love.

What have you got to do to get the fuel discount? I'll be borrowing a car while I'm over, but obviously can't enroll in any programs without a US address?
-
Thank you, experts!
-
thanks. You'll have to tell me which stores as I'm living in London so don't get to pop in often. Kroger usually does the cheaper tickets, will try them, thanks. They still do the Coca-Cola products bottle caps?
-
Where is offering money off KI tickets? Any ways to combine some offers, etc? Looking at 3-4 adults and 2 children. Thanks!

I loved the shoes! Was the warm up for the rest of the park and everyone could ride them.
-
I was at the park on Black Sunday, but I didn't know anything had happened until I got home and saw the news that night.
-
Sparks! What about them says KI? But good taste.
-
Ya'll just won't stop until I go to Blackpool, will you?! hehe I assumed (obviously making an ass...) that these rides were all over from parks chucking them out!
