I'm going with what the italianchef said on this one. I just don't think they'll be discussing a 2005 addition just yet. I give it until the middle or end of the 2004 season before they start "officially" talking about that.
-
I still doubt that anyone will buy this coaster. Like Bodda said, it's not really the money factor, it's the shape of the ride.
-
That's definitely not true. Many parks went up in attendance this year, including EPCOT, Disney's CA Adventure, SeaWorld Orlando, Cedar Point, Kings Dominion, Paramount's Great America, SeaWorld Texas, and so on. And as to a post eariler, I don't know if there is anyway to determine how much of the attendance is from the water park, but I'm not at all sure about that.

I think PKD's is better because the drop is just a few feet taller to give you a little more airtime and ours hits around 72 to 74 mph instead of 67 mph. The DZ at PKD also holds more people per cycle with 56 compared to 40. Also, I personally like the color scheme of PKD's much better than PKI's.

King Cobra Removed from Auction Site
Grunts Rock replied to Dane's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Just a little side note. Don't count on riding Shockwave next year because no one is sure about it staying. I have heard that it will be coming out very soon but I think it won't be until after next season. I think that when they rip it down it will see the same fate as King Cobra, the scrap yard. A same but at least it's not a well loved coaster. -
I have seen the Grizzly's (PKD) transfer track being used. They only had 1 train running that day and the other was sitting in the little transfer track building.

I hope this isn't getting off topic but today I read something that SFMM did that I think PKI could do to really boost attendance. SFMM announced that locals will now get discount prices to get into the park. All you have to do is bring proof to the gate that shows your residency. That would be really cool for all the locals!
-
I'm not sure if that attendance would yeild that much extra money but I don't really know. Even if their attendance did go up, it still isn't where it was a few years ago. Right now people are saying that it should pick back up next year for all theme parks, but it seems that they always say that after a not so good year so it has pretty much lost all meaning.

King Cobra Removed from Auction Site

I hope that they at least recycle the metal and make something useful out of it instead of it sitting around somewhere rusting to nothing like so many other coasters. I think it would be cool if in the next few years, PKI tried to start up the stand-up craze again by bringing in a brand new B&M stand-up named the Cobra's Revenge or the Cobra's Return. That would be kind of neat, but anyways... -
I wanted to ask one question about something I didn't quite understand. By all means I'm not trying to start anything, but what do you mean by this part I quoted? Are you saying that it is hard to keep moderated and clean, or that it just doesn't go with the rest of the site?

I found a link to the complete top 50 that has a little more information. PKI finished 17th in 2001, 18th in 2002, and 16th in 2003. Their attendance for 2003 was 3,277,975, which is up 3% from last year. The comments that were listed for PKI says that they had "a strong response to new rides and attractions and a good gain in the travel market". They also beat out all other Paramount parks, with PCW finishing 21st, PKD finishing tied for 28th, PGA finishing 31st, and PC finishing 33rd. Here is the link to the top 50 in .pdf format if anyone is interested in looking at it. http://www.amusementbusiness.com/amusement...rth-america.pdf

I don't see Premier doing another PKI coaster at all. All they seem to know is launched coasters and I don't see another FoF coming in. I do agree with what you said though about money. They will go for the best coaster they can get for the less money. However there are other factors that will determine it. They don't want to get a coaster that will have to be fixed from a breakdown 3 times a day. IE Vekoma. I think we'll see B&M, Intamin, or possibly, very simly S&S. Who knows, if Tsunami works, maybe they'll go for a S&S woodie Doubt it.

Ok, let me throw my two cents in, but it may not even be worth that much I am a moderator at 4 different forums, including my own forums. In all of them but 1 we have an off-topic or non-coaster related section. In those 3 forums, they haven't gotten out of hand, people have responded to them well, while still be active in the other parts of the board. The forum that we don't have that type of section is over at COASTER-net. We have talked over and over about adding one or not but always decided no. But this is the problem with that. Since we don't have an off-topic section for people to talk in about normal everyday stuff, topics sometimes get off-topic on their own numerous times. This now becomes more of a problem for the moderators that have to edit posts, delete posts, and close the topics. As you can tell, I am in favor of having an off-topic section. I think that if people feel that they can't talk about anything outside of PKI here, it could acctually hurt the number of active posting members. But that's just my opinion on it. As for the word games. Every board I have been to have these as well. They have become a fact of coaster forums today. I think that if you want to change something about the way the games run, make a rule that it has to be coaster or theme park related. That should keep a better handle on the games. And hey, I'd participate in a guess the coaster game. I love doing those Sometimes when people come to the board, they don't see any active topics that they are interested in or know about, so they just post in the games. I figure it this way, if it weren't for the games, they wouldn't be posting here at all that time. Then if the person comes back later on, they may see topics that they are interested in and post. For example, look at me. I used to come by once in a blue moon and post in the games. Now I've gotten active in the other sections again and took the time to write this severely long post Hope this gives everyone another take on what's going on.

I personally think that B&M will be the manufacturer of PKI's next coaster. I know that PKI currently has 2 coasters by Vekoma and none by B&M, but I think that B&M's track record will impress the top brass at PKI and win out. B&M has much better types of coasters as well. Floorless, flyers, great inverts, great mega coasters, and so on. I'm leaning toward one of the first three (floorless, flyer, or inverted) mainly because they have been most of the popular B&M's in the recent past. I guess we'll have to see though.

Well thank you very much for the compliment italianchef! I appreciate it. I don't know if I would call myself a journalists or not. I mainly just search around for any theme park or coaster news and add a segment to our news database at COASTER-net. I have quite a few news sites that I checked a few times everyday to see what's going on. I find some interesting stuff sometimes. Anyways, back on topic. I thought it was very interesting that PKI was that closely ranked to Cedar Point. I'm also glad to see that PKI's attendance did go up in the 2003 season, despite the bad economic state of the country and the bad weather that we had earlier in the theme park season.
-
Actually they have released their attendance numbers for 2003. I just wrote up a news story earlier today for COASTER-net about the Top 25 Amusement Parks in North America, which is rated by their attendance. Paramount's Kings Island came in at number 16 with 3.2 million, which is up 3 percent from last year. A really good year attendance wise for PKI. They came in one spot behind Cedar Point, which finished 15th with only 3.3 million and 3 spots ahead of SFMM which was 19th with 3 million. PKI was also 1 of only 2 Paramount parks to make the list, with Canada's Wonderland coming in 21st with 2.62 million. Here is the link to the complete top 25 list if anyone is interested. http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/031219/theme_park_list_1.html

King Cobra Removed from Auction Site
Grunts Rock replied to Dane's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I don't really see PKI bringing it back. Who knows, maybe it will go to another Paramout park, but I really don't see that happening at all. The only thing I really see is them melting it down and making a new coaster from it. -
Cool photos! Boomerang Bay looks like it's coming along nicely despite the cold weather. I wonder if they are behind schedule because of the weather that has passed through lately.

King Cobra Removed from Auction Site
Grunts Rock replied to Dane's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I think that they are just scrapping the ride because no one wants to buy it. There are only 7 other TOGO stand-ups operating (of course there were only 8 built) but I really don't see another park ever buying one of them. I think that if we ever see the stand-up craze come back, the new ones will probably be made by B&M or maybe Intamin making another stab at it. -
Interesting little stories but I don't really believe them. But who knows, they could always be true
-
That was some really nice work making King Cobra. A guy I know just got the Rippin Rocket K'NEX set that launches up the hill and he took it and did a recreation of HyperSonic XLC at PKD. Looked pretty cool. I don't have the patience to do something like that
-
The looks great guys! I'll have to change PKIC's description on my affiliates page to tell everyone all that this site includes! Great work and I can't wait to see more!
-
Some good looking images IMO. I really like the looks of that typhoon ride

Man I used to feel old sometimes around these theme park fan sites! I'm only 19, just turned 19 September 2nd in fact.

I'm not sure. I had just heard this from someone awhile back and I can't remember who it was. I'll ask Blast Coaster over at COASTER-net, I know he takes a lot of on-ride photos.
