Has anyone already seen this POV of this new Chinese hyper? The layout seems really similar to the proposed giga:
-
Seems like they’d go with something that would contrast with Diamondback. So definitely not something with warm colors.
-
Obviously I’m incredibly biased, but having ridden Fury, I think that slow helix is worth it just for the headchopper.
-
I will say that in terms of length, the ride would be better and feel more satisfying if the dive loop turn was a giant downward helix like the ones found on the Morgan hypers, like Mamba and Steel Force. Doesn’t alter the footprint too heavily, stays low to the ground (which saves on support costs), and adds to the sensation of speed. But I don’t know the terrain, and I’m not the one spending $30 million, so I’m not entirely sure.

I figured I'm a little late to the party, but I finished my Planet Coaster recreation of the ride:
-
It is my fault. I made the first turn too high, about 20 feet more than it’s supposed to be. [EDIT] Fixed.

Sorry for low quality pics, OneDrive isn’t working on my PC so I can’t screenshot at the moment. However, I’ve been working on a recreation in Planet Coaster. This is the ride profile:

Which Giga name will be coming to Kings Island
ethancoaster replied to Cedar Fair Fanboy's topic in KI Polls
I'm on Team Orion. Parks want names that are easily recognizable and memorable for their customer base. Orion just sounds more iconic and proper for a coaster this size. -
If the coaster is anything like this No Limits recreation by Coasterheads on YouTube, you’re gonna be in for an incredible ride:
-
I keep studying the turnaround by The Beast, and even though it’s not a reverse treble clef, I think it will be far better. So you enter the turn vertically, but given the speed of the transition and the placement of the apex towards the inside, the sideways airtime you get will far exceed what you get on Fury’s horseshoe turn. The train is going to be tossing you to the right. I will try to make a Planet Coaster recreation within the next few days of what I think the layout will be like.

The point is that whether or not enthusiasts are satisfied with the product, it's not somehow a "failure" on the park's end. Their job isn't to appeal to 1% of their customer base. Because let's be honest, it's a giga. Whether or not y'all like the coaster, you were still gonna visit the park to ride it.
-
My stance is this: Guests do not need to be grateful for something they're giving the park money to build, but enthusiasts are also inessential to the park's bottom line and decision making. Parks do not build these coasters to please enthusiasts because they are not the target demographic. So being disappointed as an enthusiast is reasonable, but they're not missing the mark on this attraction. 99% of guests visiting the park will not care if the ride crosses some arbitrary imperial measurement to qualify as a giga, or if it's not as long as the other 5. It's a big, speedy B&M, and it will be successful entirely independent of the opinion of some niche internet fandom.
-
I was a bit disappointed by the height, but the “giga” term is really just an arbitrary marketing tactic that only enthusiasts will care about. It will still be one of the tallest coasters on the planet, far taller than Diamondback, so it likely won’t be an issue with the majority of guests visiting the park anymore than it would be if the height was >300 feet.
-
The amusement park fan community's opinion is worth very little.
-
On top of this, this is common practice among most track fabricators.
-
I feel like the order of the floater hill and the ejector hill should be switched, but great job! I think the color scheme is very close to what we’ll see.
-
This needs to be framed on a wall.
-
Even so, there's a fine line between feeling something could be better and feeling that you're owed better, and several of the comments I've seen in this thread have fallen into the latter category.
-
And honestly, this is why I feel the quality of KIC has gone down hill somewhat since I last visited. Maybe it's because I'm only around here for speculation every three years, but I remember the discussions for Banshee and Mystic Timbers being much more rational and intelligent. This thread has seemed to have devolved into an enthusiast echo-chamber of Cedar Fair giving KI the short end of the stick because the new giga coaster is somehow a faulty business decision and a middle-finger to KI fans. I'm not saying people aren't allowed to be disappointed, and maybe I have no place in this discussion since I have Fury in my backyard. But I fail to see how this coaster not fulfilling requirements that only enthusiasts would ever care about makes it a poor business decision. It'll still be one of the tallest coasters on the planet, that in and of itself is enough marketing material.
-
Wow, this thread has gone wildly off topic. The quality of KIC seems to have dropped drastically since the last time I was active on here (3 years ago). What happened?
-
I’m really hoping the coaster follows CoasterMac305’s recreation almost verbatim. Taking that first turn after the drop with that speed would be insane. If you’ve ever ridden Fury, that same type of turn crosses over the bridge over the hive dive, and you get some amazing airtime if you’re sitting on the right side of the train. Now imagine that at almost 90 MPH instead of 70.

Red Force at Ferrari Land.

Toronto's MSA consists of 6,417,516 people. Cincinatti's is 2,114,580 in comparison. And to reiterate: Canada's Wonderland does not have any major competitors within 150 miles (excluding Darien Lake).
-
I agree with your reasoning, but this really doesn't give the full picture. MSA is a better measure of population, and in addition to that, neither Carowinds nor Canada's Wonderland have any major competitors nearby (within 150 miles).

So what do y’all think the theme will be? I’m expecting something similar to Hyperion at Energylandia, down to the themed queue.
