Another Friday the 13th report

I took my family for a fun filled day on the 13th. The weather was spectacular and the park crowd was small. Our first trip of the year was not nearly as nice as this one turned out.

Our 2 girls rode a LOT of rides. 7 times on The Beast, 6 on The Vortex, 2 on Firehawk, 2 for Flight of Fear, 1 for Face/Off, 3 or 4 on Adventure Express, 4 on Top Gun, and 1 for IJST. My youngest rode the swinging ship about 8 times. Throw in numerous rides on the swings, Shake, Rattle, and Roll, the Ice Show, etc. and it was great day.

Some observations:

The girls both thought Firehawk was fun, if not a bit tame compared to other rides at the park.

The park landscaping looks very, very nice. They have done a good job with it.

We were smart and packed a lunch and enjoyed it under a tree in the parking lot median. But I gave in to LaRosa's pizza for dinner and wasted $24 on 4 pieces of pizza (cold), an order of breadsticks, and 2 regular Cokes. The food prices at the park are just ridiculous now. And to top it off I was dumb enough to spend $6 more on a cold funnel cake. The next time lunch and dinner will be eaten in the parking lot.

But the fun of riding and enjoying the park outweighed the bad of the food.

I also still miss the train ride theming. I really hope Cedar Fair does something with theming on the train ride. And although Italian Job Stunt Track is a fun little ride, it is one UGLY roller coaster and is so out of place where it is.

We also really miss the antique cars. And one last thing - there are now NO benches in what used to be the Paramount Story area. That is such a beautiful part of the park and a good place to get away from the noise to relax for a few minutes, but there is nowhere to sit anymore. What are they thinking there?

There are several empty buildings throughout the park now. Hopefully Cedar Fair will either put something in them or just remove them. It's most notable in the River Town area.

Same here, my family of 7 were there on the 8th and the 9th. We were there from opening to close both days but we did leave the park to eat our meals. The only food/drink money that we spent was for 6 $1.99 drink refills & 1 cup of Dippin' Dots Ice Cream. This is the first time we have not ate our meals in the park in well over 8 years. I hope the park is noticing.

By the way, nice trip report...it sounds like you did get a LOT done and on a Friday no less, kinda unusual...I know we will probably never know, but I really am curious if attendance is down sharply this year.

Well, there is the former laser tag building next to the Eurobungee site in Coney Mall. Also, the old Coney Confection stand between the Skee ball building and the speed pitch also in Coney Mall, to my knowledge, is never open any more. That entire area would benefit from a new attraction back there, with the site of the Eurobungee being the prime real estate that has seemed wasted by that cheap upcharge attraction.

Let me add that EVERY trip to Kings Island this year where I bought any food, I found it to be COLD. At the Skyline Chili on International Street, at La Rosa's on both International Street and in the Fest Haus...and to be fair, at the ice cream stand in Action Zone!

Seriously, though; at these prices they could at the very least make some attempt to actually serve the food at the expected temperature.
