DropZone99
I think that CF should sell Geauga Lake, Startrek:The Experiance, Michigan's Adventure, World's Of Fun, Ocean's Of Fun, and Gilroy Garden's.
The Interpreter
For the what?--third time in this thread?--Cedar Fair CANNOT sell Gilroy Gardens. They do NOT own it. They get PAID to manage it. So they can't sell it. At most, they can stop taking money to manage it, IF the contract lets them do that.
pkimike
Yep. Something is going to happen. Something always done. Real daring prediction, that. See, I said something was going to happen, and Golly, it did. In the context my statement is just fine. I am saying that I believe that they will unload at least a few parks. I am not some kid on here trying to act like I know things. I am just having a discussion.

corn4ahead
Why would you ever want KI to be a part of some other company that doesnt own CP...CP is the best there is and if you can go to CP and KI on the same pass than why wouldnt you. pkimike
"Calm down man, you are taking Interpreter's comment way to personal." Not really. I don't really care that much. Sorry if it came across that way.

It all depends on what aspect you are looking at it from. From a thrill ride perspective, ok Cedar Fair is at the top From a guest satisfaction stand point I think Disney blows everyone out of the water hands down

Apparently not everyone believes CP is the best there is. I think its attendance came in around 15th in North America (2006). CP has it positives (but so does other parks) but it depends on what you consider important or the best. I would take Busch Garden Europe over CP any day. The Interpreter
a. PKIMike: It was good natured ribbing! In reality, I agree with you, but that line was just way too easy to respond to the way I did. I understood exactly what you meant, and yet... b. Whether or not Cedar Point is the best there is is definitely a matter of opinion. I have yet to see the day I wouldn't rather go to a certain park in New Jersey (), or to Six Flags Over Georgia, or even to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. And yet I adore Maverick and always have a good time at Cedar Point...I'd just rather go to those other places. Still, I have friends who adore Cedar Point and can't stand that place in New Jersey. If we all liked the same things, there would be little to discuss, much less to banter about!
Keysersoze
As far as I'm concerned they can sell GL, that park is dead. But before they do I think they should move "Dominator" to Kings Island, its a fun coaster and after all it is the worlds longest floorless coaster. I would really like to see them use Kings Island to it's full potential. I personal think is the best amusment park in Ohio. So as long as it doesn't turn into a other Cedar Point, there something about that park I don't like. Don't get me wrong they have some killer coasters and I been flexing my Maxx pass there but something there just rubs me wrong, maybe it's becuase it always seems packed to the max. Kings Island even when it's a full house seems to still have some breathing room.
italianchef
I think that Geauga Lake will get sold. I've even heard rumors about it. Thought much money and many rides have been invested into the park, it has experienced low attendance.
Neon
I think that they should give KI back to Paramount Parks.
The Interpreter
Paramount Parks doesn't exist as such, as Cedar Fair bought it in the USA and Canada from CBS. And Cedar Fair, as a result, now owes nearly $2 billion in debt, which they used to finance the acquisition, provide for future distributions to unit holders and to refinance existing debt. And given how CBS ran the park the last year it owned it, I'd just about rather see ANYONE else but them own Kings Island.

If you look at certain parts of KI, then you can still see some "paramount." And I don't like what Cedar Fair is doing. Ever since they came, bad things happened around Kings Island. Even though they are small, I still hate them. For example, in The Vortex, you must bring all your belongings on the ride. (Cedar Fair's fault.)Same thing on SOB. (Cedar Fair's fault again.) And guess what? My mom told me a rumor that theyy will change the name of KI to something else. (WTF Cedar Fair!?!?) That rumor is true. I don't know if it will happen or not... The Interpreter
The usage of the Paramount name will end by next season, we have been told. The Paramount name does not belong to CBS, but is used under license from Viacom. Some of the changes you don't like may have happened even if Paramount Parks still owned the park. Others may not have. Any owner will have policies we like and some we don't. Such is life. Cedar Fair has no plans to change the name of Kings Island. However, Cedar Fair itself may at some time be acquired. What a new owner may or may not do, heaven only knows.
Dvo
It seems to me that CF could just sit back for a year or two and do some small housekeeping things in their parks, and then just make some money. Not everyone gets to make it to the parks every year, so they could market what they've already got for a few years in a row and I'm sure that their attendance wouldn't decline too much. We'll see what happens I guess.
UncleHenry
So... why is CF's most visited park on this list?
The Interpreter
Perhaps because: * It's in another country, with all the problems that creates. * It's already been set up as a separate corporation by Cedar Fair. * It would command a fairly high acquisition price, putting a substantial dent in Cedar Fair's debt level. * There may be investors interested in Canada who would not be as interested in any of the US parks. It's a Canadian thing, eh?
BoddaH1994
My guess? Geauga Lake will become a waterpark only. I think that the operating expenses of the dry park outweigh the benefits that the park offers. It's Cedar Point's next door neightbor, yet Six Flags doesn't own it anymore, Paramount Parks will never own it, and no other truly reputable chain would want it. It served its purpose. Canada's Wonderland will be held as long as they can hold it. I think it will ultimately be sold, however I think they'll do everything in their power to keep it. Unless there's something to Star Trek: The Experience that we don't know about, I think they'll certainly hold onto it until it's no longer profitable. That's one of their few properties that show positive cash flow through Q4 and the beginning of Q1. What about Great America? That property is bought, leased, under contract, and every other loophole mess you can put a property through. Can they really even hold onto it? This is why you HATE Cedar Fair. Wow, and I thought I had good reasons for not likeing them [capacity based rather than satisfaction based, poor guest service, operational changes, pay cuts, loss of good managers, etc.] but your reasons just blow mine away. PS, please dont start a rumor about KI's name changing, even Cedar Fair isn't stupid enough to do that.
