Hank
Why does the park close so early in August? Has this always been the case? Will they stay open, but just advertize that the park closes early?
PKIVortex
KI starts closing early on August 13th at 8pm. But is open that Friday, Saturday, and Sunday till 10pm. Then the next Monday thru Friday they close at 8pm. Then it's 10pm for the weekend, then the park is closed for daily operation. The reason they do this, is because most of the employees are going back to school/college. Those last 2 full weeks of daily operation is hell week for the park. Trust me I know, I worked 69 hours each week those last 2 weeks in 2001. The park is very light on employees then. Also that's why the park still closes at 8pm during the first few weeks of June. tigellinus
I think back on August 18th, 2005 (if I remember right) when I last went to KI on a late August weekday, *P*KI closed at 10:00 pm, but 8:00 pm nowadays doesn't surprise me... PKIVortex
Just like the 11pm Closing times on Saturday's are now a thing of the past.
WooferBearATL
Why does the park close so early in August? Has this always been the case? Will they stay open, but just advertize that the park closes early? Nah, used to be open until 10pm until Labor Day. Then there was an alternate closing schedule. But right up through Lindner the park even closed at 10pm on Sundays during weekend operation.
The Interpreter
...and had fireworks EVERY night the park was open. It was under Paramount's later years that fireworks began to be restricted to nights when the park closed at 10 or later...And you can thank then manager Tim Fisher that Kings Island kept virtually nightly fireworks at all... tigellinus
I always knew what time it was when I heard the fireworks from my N. Montgomery Road apartment in 05 and 06! Too bad once I finally got into *really* going to KI last year, I moved from 5 mins away from KI to 1 hr and 45 mins!
Browntggrr
KI is not the only park to have early closing times. Dollywood has some closing hours at 6:00pm in August. BGA has closing hours ranging from 6:00pm toward the end of August to many 8:00pm & 9:00pm closing times. BGE has closing hours ranging from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. HolidayWorld is actually closed Monday thru Friday the last two weeks in August.

Yeah, folk always ask why I'm not a fan of fireworks. I always tell em that fireworks just mean closing time for me. <G>
The Interpreter
Gee thanks! Now, I have THIS yet again running through my semi-sonic head: Closing time - you don't have to go home but you can't stay here.... Closing time - time for you to go back to the places you will be from. Closing time - this [park] won't be open 'til your brothers or you sisters come. So gather up your jackets, and move it to the exits - I hope you have found a friend. Closing time - every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. In some ways, now when I hear this song, I will think of the old park ownership gathering up a little bit of its stuff and a few employees and a golden parachute or two and making its exit... Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end...
MarketingExpress
It used to be that during hell week that the park would close as early as 6:00 on the weeknights.
DeLorean Rider
I believe that Fireworks would be a waste before 10PM just because its usually not dark enough. I guess this is only the case in pre and full season though. By post season it is dark much earlier. Isnt there an ordinance that fireworks cannot be set off in Mason past 12am. I believe this is why the fireworks were always set off at 10pm or 11pm even on the saturday nights in 2005 when the park was open till 12am. Man those were the days. That was great from a guests's standpoint because when the fireworks would go off at 10:00, most people would think the park was closed and would leave. This mean a great reduction in lines for the last 2 hours.
Outdoor Man
I'm not too sure about that ordinance. If there is such an ordinance I would much appreciate it if they would ENFORCE it and families from all over the area would not be blowing up their fireworks up until 2am (one night) from June 20-July 10. The Interpreter
It is a LOT easier to enforce an ordinance against a major, fixed-site amusement park with thousands of attendee-witnesses than it is the Schmoe family who doesn't announce its intentions weeks in advance and fires off its works without warning in the dark of night.
