The Interpreter
VERY interesting error in this one: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/6818-NF...or_49ers-170108 The parking lot is leased to Six Flags Great America???? Note that someone tried to fix the error, or to fix it when it was right and created the error....well the REAL name of the park is California's Great America. For now, at least. Sigh. The Interpreter
According to Bond Buyer of New York, a paid subscription service, last week Cedar Fair sent another letter to Santa Clara again restating its complete opposition to locating a stadium on Great America's parking lot . . . CoastersRZ
Doesn`t the city of Santa Clara have to get permission to build the stadium on the overflow lot? After all, Cedar Fair`s lease with the Santa Clara Redevelopment Corp. would give Cedar Fair the right to the land. The city telling Cedar Fair they can`t use part of their leased land anymore without just compensation isn`t right. I understand that the 49ers stadium could bring some economic growth to the area. But is the city willing to adversely affect another one of their businesses? One that chas a substantial (maybe even more of an impact then an NFL stadium that is used about ten times a year) economic impact on the local economy. Not to mention the infrastructure cost of moving the electrical substation/

The Interpreter
Niners Launch Official Application for New Santa Clara Stadium: .... Those towers would be slightly lower than one nearby landmark - the 224-foot high Drop Zone ride in the Great America theme park. Following opposition from Cedar Fair Entertainment Co, Great America's owner, to a stadium in the theme park's main parking lot, the 49ers are applying to build in Great America's overflow lot, slightly to the east across San Tomas Creek. But because Cedar Fair has not yet agreed to the back-up site, the 49ers and the Ohio-based amusement park operator are continuing to negotiate. Browntggrr
I still have a hard time believing that an alternative site cannot be found. This will be a court battle in the end. And CF is going to take a stance where if they get hurt financially due to this stadium, it lets them out of the lease and. Then where will Santa Clara be? They will be holding onto property developed as an amusement park, as well as, holding onto a debt from the stadium. Yeah, that makes sense. The Interpreter
...The Niners hope to go to the ballot in the South Bay city in November, but that plan still requires cutting deals on both money and land with Santa Clara and Cedar Fair, the Ohio company that owns the Great America amusement park next door to the stadium site. Cedar Fair has been resisting, so what are the chances that a deal will be hashed out by the summer deadline that the city has imposed to get a deal in place? "I think we are going to pull something together that the council and public can vote on," said Carol McCarthy, Santa Clara assistant city manager. "And I say that confidently."... http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?.../BAG910K0A2.DTL

cstrwomann
So what does all this mean? They are trying to put up a stadium for football where Great America sits now? What will happen to the rides since California owns the land? Why don't they just put the stadium somewhere else? It will interesting to see what happens considering GA just got TT from GL. KIBeast
It will only intrude on the parking lot, not the park itself. That's where the legal battle is.

The Interpreter
Fall vote on 49ers stadium hits snag (financing deal) http://www.mercurynews.com/southbayfootball/ci_9585495 (Registration or http://www.bugmenot.com may be required) Of more interest to many here, from the same article: "...The negotiations between the theme-park owner and the team appear to be much more troubled than talks between the city and the team. A meeting Tuesday in Cleveland between 49ers officials and Cedar Fair executives did not lead to an agreement. Stacy Frole, a Cedar Fair spokeswoman, declined to provide any details of that meeting, nor say when the next meeting will take place. Cedar Fair says having NFL games next door to Great America would damage its business, and the Sandusky, Ohio, company has demanded a cut of the stadium parking revenue. City officials acknowledge that is a problem, because parking revenue is one source of financing for construction of the stadium...." Cormaster
WHy in gods name are the 49rs trying to buy a theme park to build a new stadium right now anyway? They need to focus on other things like ACCTUALLY WINNING GAMES! lol, seriously though the Joe Montana/Steve Young days are loooooooooong gone! The Interpreter
They aren't trying to buy a theme park....for starters...
indianapolisman
The closest we came with this with our new stadium was from a bean company I could imagine though 49er fans can't be happy with this lenghthy delay.
Cormaster
Either way my point is, you don't try to build a new stadium when you have a loosing record. Lets look at the Houston Oilers. They are now the Tennessee Titans because they tried to have a new stadium built during a time when they were loosing.
CoastersRZ
Uh, then how do you explain the Cincinnati Bengals? They had a new stadium built when they were known as the laughing stock of the NFL.
indianapolisman
Some stadiums are built more for the city and not just for the team. Like hopes of hosting a Super Bowl cough 2012. Also as in most contracts for projects this size local contarctors are used which stimulates the city's economy.
AintNutinElse2Do
They aren't trying to buy a theme park....for starters... But wasn't that an idea the 49'ers tossed around at the beginning of all this? The Browns (i believe i got the right team) owned what is now known as Dollywood. Cormaster
Well I even have to use my Indianapolis Colts as an example I guess. After all they wanted a new stadium when Memorial Stadium in Baltimore was crumbling. Balitmore was disgusted with their loosing record, and wouldn't even think of it. So they moved to Indianapolis where our mayer at the time had the nice new Hoosier Dome built just for them. Whats crap is how bitter the baltimore fans are for the Colts Leaving. you know they #1 they NEEDED a new stadium, and #2. their last year there were only 1000 of the 60,000 some seats being bought by fans. They didn't really care about the team at all until they left. They are so bitter that when the Colts play the Ravens they won't dare put "indianapolis" on the scoreboard. NOpe, it'll be "baltimore" and "colts" on the Scoreboard. When we schooled them in the playoffs in 2007, their fans gave us death threats! What do I think? I think if I was a Baltimore Raven I'd be insulted. because its obvious the fans care much more about the team they lost than the team they have now. anyway maybe instead of being bitter at us, maybe they should be bitter at the city who wouldn't pay the price to keep their team! CoastersRZ
Nope. It is too cold in Cincinnati for them to ever hold a Super Bowl. The only time a team lands a Super Bowl in the north is when their facility is climate controlled in the winter months.

WooferBearATL
Never is a very long time. I'm not sure I'd say never, but I'd say it is highly unlikely in the foreseeable future... I would go ahead and say never on that point. Even when Atlanta is considered to host the Superbowl the issue of weather comes up. Now if the NFL is so concerned about the weather (outside) when they'd be playing in a dome, an outside facility in the north just ain't happening. Never.... Uh, then how do you explain the Cincinnati Bengals? They had a new stadium built when they were known as the laughing stock of the NFL. But we're still a laughing stock! Ahh, I remember watching Bungle Vidoes. God they were hilarious. And I remember the Bengals appearing in not one but two Superbowls.
