Browntggrr
Intresting... Carowinds' calander shows nothing going on after 3/21/08, even though every other day prior shows the only event going on is jacket pick-up. I wonder if the writer looked at that information the wrong way, or if they actually know something. http://www1.cedarfair.com/Carowinds/visit/visit_calendar.cfm
AintNutinElse2Do
March 21st actually seems like a reasonable opening date in the area. Heck to the northwest of Carowinds would be Dollywood which opens to the general public on the 22nd. see http://dollywood.com/dates-hours/
CoastersRZ
Seems to me, like whoever wrote that article just assumed that because that was the first date on their website that did not have an event on it, that meant that day was opening day. After all, it appears as if Carowinds, like Kings Island, has yet to release their 2008 operating calendar. Although, the reporter who wrote that article could very well know something we don`t. Doesn`t Carowinds normally open the last weekend in March or the first weekend in April? I seem to recall that Carowinds has typically opened a weekend before Kings Dominion, and Kings Dominion has typically opened a weekend before Kings Island. It's pretty warm in the area by the end of March and Spring is in full force. With SFOgG opening the beginning on March.
The Interpreter
If you are going with that theory, remember, Six Flags Great Adventure generally opens at least two weeks before Kings Island, and has for years. And it certainly is NOT warmer than Cincinnati, nor is it further south. . .
Carowinds2005
Carowinds has posted its calendar today- http://www1.cedarfair.com/carowinds/visit/visit_calendar.cfm And New Names for Top Gun and Borg Top Gun= Flight Deck Borg...duh duh we have a new Hawk= Nighthawk http://www1.cedarfair.com/carowinds/attrac...ory.cfm?ac_id=
Erosarrow05
the lack of creativity with the whole "hawk" thing is astounding... Any high school level creative writing class could come up with a better name...
The Interpreter
Those links go to this forum and don't work... And I see no difference in the calendar from days past...
Cory Butcher
Highschool class, your giving them way to much credit. I know of some Kindergartners that could have thrown out some good names. Flight Deck sounds like a dark ride or haunted house at HH, not a high speed roller coaster.
Cory Butcher
Links that work for me: Ride names- http://www1.cedarfair.com/carowinds/attrac...ory.cfm?ac_id=1 Calendar- http://www1.cedarfair.com/carowinds/visit/visit_calendar.cfm
Erosarrow05
its like they just pull the names out of a giant lottery machine and slap "hawk" after it... Im going to go out on a limb and say ... they dont particularly care about the whole naming process
WooferBearATL
Those links go to this forum and don't work... And I see no difference in the calendar from days past... The Interpreter
Well....I'll be. They ARE opening on Friday, March 21. How very strange.
Erosarrow05
why?
Carowinds2005
Most of the schools in the area are out for Spring/Easter break so thats the reason for the Friday opening.
Cory Butcher
I find it odd, that they are open over 2 months for weekends only, before they ever open for full season.
The Interpreter
Nighthawk. Hmmmm. Cross a temple in Tomb Raider with Borg and you get: http://www.rcdb.com/ig980.htm ????
Browntggrr
Does the name of a ride really matter? Seriously though, you ride a ride, for the ride. Not for the name on a ride. What is you alternative? Batman everything, Superman everything. The name of a ride does not influence me in any way.
The Interpreter
Somebody tell Cedar Fair quick! They didn't need to change Banshee????
Cory Butcher
I suppose not, they must not have done any Praying over it either.
Browntggrr
^^ They didn't need to change Banshee, yet they chose to change it. But that whole situation is completely different than this one.
PKIVortex
So I bet our Top Gun will be known as Flight Deck as well. Pretty funny as most of us heard that name several month's ago. So we now know more then likely that: IJST: will be Backlot Stunt Coaster TRTR: The Cave Top Gun: Flight Deck. I would be willing to guess that Face/Off will simply just be renamed Invertigo. As far as Days of Thunder it could easiy just be changed back to XS Raceway. It also seems to look that Drop Zone may keep it's name. Monroe
Nighthawk. Hmmmm. Cross a temple in Tomb Raider with Borg and you get: http://www.rcdb.com/ig980.htm ???? Now don't put that one down, it is actually a good ride. Lots of head choppy things, and pretty good air time.
CoastersRZ
One interesting this with their calendar. They appear to have a Bare Bones night on Thursday, October 30th and Friday October 31st for Scarowinds. However, they are NOT open Saturday November 1st and Sunday November 2nd. While Cedar Point will be open noon to midnight on November 1st and 11am to 7 pm on Sunday, November 2nd. But of course, the operating calendar is always subject to change. Browntggrr
^ Perhaps it has to do with staffing? College students vs. High School students? ... just a thought.
Raptor66
Tomb Raider: The Hawk Hawk Raider: The Ride or maybe, Tomb Hawk: Bird of Prey Any of those work?
The Interpreter
Well, the first doesn't. Viacom would have a little problem with that, to put it mildly. I'm still waiting for them to name some kids' ride 'Chickenhawk!'
THE_BEASTmaster
Now California's Great America has changed their Top Gun to (drum roll please)........ Flight Deck! Here's the link: http://www1.cedarfair.com/greatamerica/att...ory.cfm?ac_id=2 I hope Canada's Wonderland and Our's don't get that name too. We need some originality.
