NatiReds084
In the summer of '07 I traveled up to Cedar Point with friends about 4 hours from my home. Once we got there it was pouring. We waited it out for an hour hoping it would stop but eventually we left We were risking going up there based on the weather report being a little above 50% for rain. The second time I went up was around the end of summer and the beggining of fall. When we got there it was grey skies but no rain. We got on a few rides (maverick which was amazing, raptor magnum, millenium force) we tried to get on dragster but we were stopped in line for mechanical problems. Later in the day we tried the dragster again. As we get farther in line the sky starts to darken. We hear thunder in the distance and we are kicked out of line because of weather. As we walk away from dragster and I look forward I see a wall of rain coming toward us and announce it to everyone and just as I do it starts to rain harder than ive ever seen it rain and we were caught in it for like 3 minutes before we found shelter. So we were soaked and the day was ended but it was a funny story to remember and left me wanting more Cedar Point!
italianchef
So sorry to read your story. Rain can ruin a day an amusement park,k zoo, or any outdoor entertainment facility. But without rain, our planet could not sustain human life.
Raptor66
Wow, that story sounds really similar to mine when we went this past June. When did you go?
Jasper
Hehe mine to. I went at the beginning of August and it started to absolutely pour the rain and i went in a bathroom to the right of Magnum XL-200 and stayed there for about 30 minutes or so. Raptor66
We shared an umbrella with a drink vendor for a few minutes, then we made a run for Coasters.
CoastersNSich
Rain + Closed Rides + My Bad Experience in 2004 = Hersheypark Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to go back sometime and ride the Monorail, Storm Runner, and several other rides that I missed. BoddaH1994
I was at Beech Bend back in 06 for Rumblefest and the ride Scat II broke down on me. Ended up being me, Dane, Zosobeast, SOB_Tom, DeliriumDreamer, and several other friends having to jump from the ride to the platform after having to climb to the outside of the vehicle to unlock it. After we all made it to the platform, we then had their maintenance guy put the ride in neutral so we could push the remaining arm to the platform so the other people could get off the ride. You'd never see that at a major park. lol
Cody
Rain + Beast = a blast =) Thats one thing i will miss, rideing the rides in the rain =( Jan 28 2008, 08:11 PM I found out the new ride names. I was very upset.
Jasper
Another thing i will always remember is riding Apollo's Chariot in the rain and luckily i was wearing sunglass because rain+70mph=bad time.
DiSab
Another thing i will always remember is riding Apollo's Chariot in the rain and luckily i was wearing sunglass because rain+70mph=bad time. Try Millennium Force in the rain. I did that the day Maverick opened. An interesting ride, to say the least.
DropZone99
Every time ive gone to CP it's rained a little bit. This year i was lucky and missed mossed of the storm. A few years back i was at Universal Orlando and it was like 40 degrees! And for some weired reason i decided to ride Didly-Du-Right's Rip Saw Falls and that Pop-Eye water ride thing. CoastersRZ
My rain story comes from the first year that I worked at Coney. There was a sudden down pour and storm that blew over the park. I don`t even know what ride I was working when the storm rolled in. But, there was one person who was working the pedal boats that day. Well, the storm blew over so quickly, that there were probably ten boats out on the lake when it came in. I was sent down there to help the person at pedal boats get the remaining boats in from the lake. The guests that were getting off the boats were soaked to the bone! Not to mention that by the time we got everyone in, we were equally drenched!

NatiReds084
Another thing about rain in Cedar Point, even if its just sprinkling they close down maverick because the brakes dont work very well on the specific track they have. Luckily I did get on that ride though it was on of my favorites. I can also tell you I will be going up there this summer. I'm not stoppin til I get a full day up there lol Plus I want to get on top thrill dragster so bad!
The Interpreter
Uh, no. The brakes on Maverick work just fine in rain. It is Cedar Point policy to close most coasters in the slightest bit of rain. Their park, their policy.
cholderfield
They got very strict, specifically after the Magnum "accident" earlier in the season...i wish they would ease it up a bit...last season there were times when it sprinkled on and off...and would close every ride because of it...and one that i specifically remember...after shutting down all rides about 4 or 5 times in a three hour period due to sprinkles, it started POURING and they let all rides continue to operate.... NatiReds084
Oh well I figured the reason was because of the brakes because we were standing next to maverick as a train went by and it was raining and the train slid on the tracks after they hit on the brakes. Touchdown
CP is on a Great Lake, so having storms blow in and out is something you should really just expect every time its open. The only time you might be safe is late Oct, but usally the storms do just that, blow over. Duck and cover and within an hour you should be ok (unless a front is going through, which in that case you should watch the weather before you go up.) The best place Ive found to wait out the storm (if you cant duck into a show) is actually in line for DT. Its inside (yes AC) and they close it once it starts raining (thus its not crowded) once the idiots who leave the line to enjoy the rain leave you'll end up on the staircase which means you have somewhat comfy seats. The ride ops will also come over once the ride is down and converse with you, they also will tell you when the rain has passed so that you can then leave (DT takes forever to open after rain) and jump in line for a headliner before the waits build back up. Yea thats what my friend said because she lives up there... storms and rain are common because its on the water which makes sense obviously. We were gonna go to disaster transport when it started to get dark out but on the way to the ride it downpoured. So we had to leave the park. It was actually a pretty violent storm. When we left Cedar Point there were leaves and branches all over the streets and even some large trees were taken down. Im just hoping I get a full day there pretty soon because I love it there. fan of beast
we were on The Beast for double ride tuesdays. as we were leaving the station for our second run, the ride op announced "welcome the the world's longest water ride". we never even noticed that it had started to rain extremely hard. that rain stung like crazy. don't remember if the op was Gordon or not. once while in line for recaR. i was asking a young girl who was in the rear of the train if she was in the front of the train or the rear of the train. she said she was in the rear. i said from the direction you're facing, it looks like you're in the front of the train, are you sure. she was obviously puzzled. i asked if her friends in the other seat were in front of her or behind her. she was now totally confused. later that day, i was in the back seat of viking fury. i hear this same young lady yelling at me. she asked if i was in the front of the boat or the back of the boat. she got the best of me that day. UnrealNightmare
^Lmao My worst theme park trip was to Busch Gardens Africa. When we go to the park it was very clear and very sunny. About an hour later we headed for Kumba. The clouds started rolling in while waiting in the line. When I boarded the train it was not raining at all. When we got to the top of the hill it started to sprinkle. By the time we made it to the cobra roll it was pouring. Man did that hurt. Mind you I was riding in the front car. Also while on ride a huge weed was sticking up very close to the part of the track right out of the dive loop where it goes past a shed and I was holding my hands up like I always do and smacked the weed on accident and at 50mph it stung. It continued to rain the rest of the day. So I sat and watched every show they had.
Cory Butcher
Coasterfreak, your day couldn't have been that bad then! BGA has some of the greatest shows around!
UnrealNightmare
I am what you call a thrill seeker. I hate sitting down and watching shows the only two i liked were Katonga and RL-Steins Haunted Lighthouse. I was so hyped up to ride the coasters. That is why it was a disappointing day. The Interpreter
Katonga is among the best shows I have seen in any park, anywhere. The production values far exceed those typically seen in amusement and/or theme parks. . .
UnrealNightmare
Agreed! I loved how all of their costumes blended in with the backdrop. I also loved how it was over an hour long. Most shows only last 30 minutes if that.

Im a thrill-seeker too, years back before i ever went to SFKK i was on my way to Florida and i would tell my mom that id rather just go to Six Flags. BGA is an awesome park, when i went there in 06' we got lost on the way and didn't get there until 1pm, and the park closed at 7 so we didn't get much time. We did get to ride all the rides except Scorpion because it was closed, and we got to ride Sheikra twice!
Guest TombraiderTy
Katonga is among the best shows I have seen in any park, anywhere. The production values far exceed those typically seen in amusement and/or theme parks. . . I personally think "Finding Nemo: The Musical" at Disney's Animal Kingdom was better than Katonga. However, due to technical difficulties the show ended 3/4 of the way through. Kinda ticked me off...
The Interpreter
Which is one reason I think Busch production values are often higher than Disney's. I've been to many Disney productions in their theme parks where there was a sudden technical glitch.
UnrealNightmare
Same thing happened to me while watching Philharmagic. About halfway through the screen just went blank. But i must say Disney did accommodate us pretty well. They said that if we wanted to come back after regular operating hours we could go right in. We declined the offer though seeing as my g/f's little sister was already nodding off.
