Working at K.I. ?

I have been volunteering down at KI for the past 6 or 7 years now after the regular season. I would love to work the Park during the regular season, but since I have a full time job that pays more than KI, I'll have to just work weekends. I don't do it for the money, I do it for the tickets for the following season.

I volunteered for almost 8 years and I can tell getting tickets as payment for working at the park was wonderful I would do it again in a heartbeat but I have a problem with transportation to and from the park and finding a group to work with now because the group I'm with discontinued because of leadership changes and a former friend couldn't get me a new group to take to take over and get transportation to and from the park i'm disgusted with him to this very day I don't know how to get over it but I'm trying to, but it's very hard because that was my lifeline of not only to volunteer, but escapeism for the day to have the park to myself for a few hours it was wonderful I wish there was some way I can get a new group and transportation to and from the park I miss it very much.

Are you able to fill out an application before your 15th birthday, and then start on your 15th birthday

^If things are the same as they were 3 years ago you must be 15 to be interviewed for a position, however I do believe that you can fill out an online application wait until you are 15 and then get interviewed.

Make sure you know that the only two departments you can work in as a 15 year old are food and games. When I was 15 I was dead set on working one of the huge roller coasters but could not so I joined the Games Department with the intent on working the following year in rides. I ended up loving the games department so much that I will now be returning for my 4th season. :D

Can't you be a cohort (sp) at 15? You know, lead the characters around?

Not really sure, I doubt it, but when you fill out your application you will be given 3 preferences on job selection just select whatever position you want and they will stop you if your not old enough. The problem with 15 year olds is there are many many many stupid Ohio Labor Laws that have to be followed so many positions cannot be offered to 15 year olds. <_<

I found that you can be a cohort at age 15:

http://visitkingsisland.com/jobs/jobs_desc...cfm?emp_id=1203

But saying I turn 15 October 4, that leaves only ten days (including my birthday) of park operation cohorts would be needed (none on Fridays). Whatever the job, how long after they hire you do you begin working on average? Like, on a Saturday, would I began the next day? Or how long is training?

I am shocked, guess you can't be 15 and work in games anymore?

Training will probably take another week depending on how many people entertainment hires at that time of season and how spaced out the classes are. Last year I knew someone in games who worked only the last two weekends so it is possible. Although I am not sure how much work in entertainment there is available outside of Halloween Haunt in October.

Even though you could only work for that month you will find that the following year you can get returner perks, and will know where in the entertainment department you want to return to.

I would like to apply for the Technician position to work with audio and electronics and whatnot but I'm 17 and it's an 18 and older position. Any rule bending? While we're on that, has anyone had this position before? What does it really entail?

The must have changed the rules a bit since I was there. But I swear we had a few techs who went to CSPA that were still students there.

I believe the to work in tech services, a division of Kings Island maintenance, and to perform maintenance work on the sound systems you must be 18. To be a sound technician in entertainment though I don't believe thats the case. My daughter a few times helped work the soundboards in the Paramount Theatre for Magic of the Movies if I recall correctly.

You are right King Maple. The entertainment dept is totaly seperate in the way things are done in the park, well it use to be anyways. Such as it use to be you didnt work for an hourly rate. You recieved a salery. You recieved the same amount of pay if you worked one hour per week or 100 hours per week. That was for the pre, regular and post seasons. When we started in February that was just hourly.

iChase- this is actually my current position at KI (considering the lame Username). I love working in Tech and look forward to going back every day. This is my fourth year in the park, but only second year in Tech.

Here is the job description, and if you have other questions, feel free to ask:

Tech Services is currently divided in sections, 3 of which are available (currently) to seasonal associates; Games, Animation, and Registers.

Games deals with what it say- maintenance of all the games in the park, NOT including the arcade games that are contracted by an outside company. The Games section also maintains all changers and pay devices in the park (for example: bill changers and the pay cannons at WWC).

Animation deals with all of the ride animations, audio, limited special effects, and various communications systems. The Animation section often maintains a little of everything throughout the park, but MOSTLY has its place on rides.

Registers deals with, again, what it says- registers. This section maintains the registers, card readers, and receipt printers throughout most of the park.

However, Tech Services is divided, often the sections will take care of a little bit of everything. There isn't EXACTLY a division, but more so of an overlap.

Hope this helps!
