TGI Fridays

Recommended Posts

^ I doubt that IR would be turned into a Fridays. I really don't think that the space is big enough to fit Friday's standards. Also, the park has been utilizing that space for private events

If KI was to get a Fridays, it would probably be a new building without access to the park, but close enough to the main gate so that those at KI could still enjoy the luxury of a sit-down restaurant that could be open year-round.

Now with GWL being there, the area is becoming more of a year-round destination and more restaurant choices will be needed. I would be surprised if a TGI Fridays has not already been discussed as a project for the future.

Except for the fact (as Interp) has pointed out, that GWL is not utilizing all of it's own dining options and the ones that are utilized have been scalled back considerably.

If that is the case, then GWL must not be selling out, or have a high enough capacity to warrent all the options being available. Unless their food (or prices) are that bad. A TGI Fridays could very well be a welcome sight to the area.

Jeez, I would rather see anything else besides a Fridays. I have had consistently bad service every time I've been to TGI Fridays.

WOW! I am honestly shocked that you have had a bad coarse of luck with TGI Fridays. I have had my bad moments at Fridays, usually when they are crazy busy, but overall my experiences have been very positive.

You would expect lousy service when a restaurant is slammed, but on the second and third and fourth chances that I've given that place, it's been enough to make me never go back. Rude employees, cold food, etc... I want to like the place, but my experiences really play a part.

Max & Ermas is another place that I've not been back to. I think that once a person, not just me of course, has a bad experience at a restaurant, it takes alot for them to make another trip, or to forgive if you will.

No, you would not expect lousy service when a restaurant is slammed.

Not often does a restaurant continue to be slammed if they have rude employees, cold food, etc.

Good point. I guess I'm saying that lousy service is tolerated by a majority of people when a restaurant is busy. Not saying it's right, or even tolerable, but it happens, no?

There are more then just space issues with locating a Fridays in the former International Restaurant space. Primarily, access to the space via the stairs and elevator access to the space. The International Restaurant space was built in 1973, long before the Americans with Disabilites Act (more commonly referred to as ADA) was enacted. Any new restaurant in that space would require significant modifications to bring the building up to current ADA codes.

And I doubt that KI brings in a restaurant that will be open year round. There would need to be something that draws people year round. And since Winterfest is no more, there is nothing to entice people to visit a year round restaurant at KI outside of the normal park operating season. Now if Cedar Fair were to decide to build a hotel on site, and throw in an indoor water park, similar to Castaway Bay at Cedar Point, then a TGI Fridays in the hotel would make some sense. However, I don`t see Cedar Fair plunking down major capital to build a hotel and indoor water park at Kings Island. At least not at this point in time with their still sizeable debt load.

IR was at one time open year round. It was not very busy in off season, but that was long before the area had become as built up as it was.

There was once a proposal (Pre-Paramount) to keep International Street open year round and to make the entrance to the park right by the tower. I've not heard anything about that idea for years.

Woofer, didn't the IR offer some unique dining options and experience as well, seems to me that even with the surrounding area being so built up with different dining options, that if the IR has some unique claim to fame or food niche that they would be able to compete.

BD's Mongolian Grill anyone? :D

IR always had the basics - Prime Rib, Sole, Etc.

There were always some nice specials and the food was always prepared well. (My opinion - <G> and I am good at eating!)

If they kept International Street active and decorated I think that they could make IR successful.

If not I can't see it doing well.

I don't see why KI could not bring in any restaurant and have it be open year-round.

It would be no different than any other restaurant located on the side of a road. This one would just happen to be located outside the main gate to KI.

Well, to start with, it is now a long walk from the nearest parking place to the restaurant....and many people simply won't do that...and others will believe they have to pay for parking to go there, even when the park is closed...

Those are very easy solutions to deal with.

If those are the worst things CF has to deal with opening a new reataurant, they are on easy street. They even have a huge sign right on the highway promoting the restaurant during the off-season.

That actually used to be the problem before.

People did not have to pay parking to go to the restaurant in the past.

But everyone thought that you had to.

When did it open?

Late summer or fall of last year. I was in and out of town so much that I do not remember the exact date. It is actually in a strip mall, not on its own like all the others that I have been to.

I think that's a great idea. I know I would go.
