Jasper
I bet that day will be jam packed. I would like to go the wednesday or thursday before that.
BoddaH1994
Fireworks are not the only things going on that day. KI will be the place to be on July 4th. More details to come...
BavarianBeatle
Could there be a certain announcement that day????????
BoddaH1994
Could there be a certain announcement that day???????? Probably not, but I'm not sure. I'm not on the "in" with this one. I was told by certain park official(s) to make sure I have that day free and that KI would be the place to be this 4th of July. Beyond that, I really have no info. You guys have to realize that the 4th of July isn't a typically crowded day for Kings Island. It's primarily the activities that day that draw the people. 4th of July, Father's Day and Mother's Day are three of the most difficult days for the park. Dane
As I recall last year, the park didnt get busy till about 8pm.
BavarianBeatle
I remember the 4th last year... We went early, and the kids noticed that SOB was listed as "Temporarily Closed".... So we knew what was going to happen later that day.... The kids and I were on the news briefly when they filmed the people in line, and they thought it was special when the ride op said "Welcome to the sixth ride on the newly reopened Son of Beast" as they opened the gates to get on the train. I thought it was pretty cool too..... Apparently they have something planned for this year too. We will certainly be there with our lunch in the cooler . MarketingExpress
I guess they aren't doing the traditional July 3rd festivities (the same that will be on the 4th) as they have done in the past to give more people a chance to attend.

Absolutely. Coupled with the fact that you have a very large abundance of options for that day.
BoddaH1994
Sorry to double post. My phone just went off with a text message from none other than Don Helbig who happened to be looking at this thread. Without saying more, he assured me that this 4th of July will be the biggest bash in the 36 year history of that establishment. I've heard rumors through the grapevine as to what's planned.... I wouldn't be shocked if you have some surprises heading your way.

Mrs. Grundy said to tell you that the Fourth of July has been around longer than 36 years...in fact, there was a Fourth of July before there was a United States of America. Perhaps you meant "the 4th of July will be the biggest bash in the 36 year history of" Kings Island....not the 36 year history of the 4th of July! vortexfan
This 4th of July at Kings Island I'm expecting a lot of entertainment and activities going on and maybe even the beginning of a teaser campaign for the new coaster in '09.

The Interpreter
Far be it from me to mock you....now, Mrs. Grundy, that's another story! Terpy, who knew Mrs. Grundy from her English teachin' Archie days...and who back then wanted his own Independence Day from teachers like her! Folks, stay tuned, this sounds big! iChase
I'm actually considering going to this. I haven't gone for years. I love the fireworks. I might have to bring a 2x4 for the crowds and a snow plow for the car lot after the show's over.
BavarianBeatle
Sounds really great!!! We are leaving early on the 5th for a few days in Cleveland and at CP, but sounds like I'm going to wind up at KI until the end of the fireworks on the 4th. Oh well, sleep is overrated anyway. BoddaH1994
From what I've been hearing, what they have planned for that day will make many members on here as excited as a 6 year old girl would be at such a concert. And no, it has nothing to do with the construction site at Swan Lake.
Avatar
Thanks guys for giving us a heads up on the 4th of July plans, it helps us planners and families to look ahead so we can make plans for that day. I will just say this I was very impressed and thoroughly entertained on the entertainment choices available on Knievel Day at Kings Island. If the Star Spangled Celebrations events are half as good, then in my opinion it will exceed my expectations. I will also add that I am impressed with whoever is planning the events currently at Kings Island it really taps into my interests and has got me enthused about the park this year, keep up the great work. We were seriously thinking of going elsewhere this year on the forth as we did last year but after the Knievel Day and having such a great time, we will entrust our holiday celebration to Kings Island. Hope to see you all there!
MrPostman
What could it possibly be? They couldn't have anything huge due to the large crowd, so what go to KI and get a free cinnabon or maybe a t-shirt? cmon, the teases are more than likely over the top. Skywriter
OMG there finally doing it there going to take down the Son of Beast by using fireworks to demolish it then they are going to have worlds biggest bonfire and have Robbie Knievel jump it ! In reality I think the new ride is going to be announced.

JessicaC
My family and I (husband, 2 kids and brother in law) will be there from the 3-6 so we will be there for the 4th of July festivites, looking forward to it. However just have a quick question for anyone, we are staying at the Kings Island Resort, due to a really good price. What are the rooms like there also do they have any eating establishments at the hotel? I read that they have a shuttle service as well, does it run later as well? ( like say we were in line for a ride at 10:00 and did not get back to the shuttle until 11:00 or so). Thanks in advance for your help;)
standbyme
What are the rooms like there My family always stays in their "Family Double" rooms. (They have two double size beds and one queen size sleeper sofa.) I have stayed at the Resort at least 10 times...but always in this type of room...so if you are staying in a smaller type room I do not know what they are like. As for the Family Double rooms, I would say they are nice...they are clean and do have plenty of room. I would not say that the Resort is "fancy" by any means...just nice. My family likes staying there because of the shuttle service mostly...the kids like riding it and it comes in handy when not everyone wants to stay at the park at the same time...if someone is tired they can just hop the shuttle and go back to the resort and relax. Do they have any eating establishments at the hotel? They have some kind of food/bar there but I have never tried it...my family either eats in the park, or (usually) packs a cooler and eats in the hotel room. (There are also SEVERAL fast food places within' easy DRIVING time nearby.) I read that they have a shuttle service as well, does it run later as well? ( like say we were in line for a ride at 10:00 and did not get back to the shuttle until 11:00 or so). The shuttle lasts for about a half hour after the park closes...and even if you miss it the walk back is not that bad...just walk thru the Great Wolf's parking lot and hit the crosswalk-light at the corner to cross the busy street...always play it safe! Have a good time.
