I_heart_pki
hard rock park...check it out. Has anyone been to one of these parks yet? I thought that it was pretty interesting and I'm thinking about going.
The Interpreter
I have talked to several of my friends who have gone. Not a one has been happy. They are now offering a money back guarantee, but only if you leave within 30 minutes of buying your ticket. What does that tell you? I_heart_pki
Wow. Such a good idea for a park too. Not fair.

The Interpreter
The biggest complaint I have heard is closed rides. One friend of mine found 3/4 of the rides closed the day he was there...and asked for a refund...which he was not given...nor even a discount to come back another time. Needless to say, he's done with Hard Rock Park. Locals report it is not doing well, attendance wise. The general manager has been let go, and a new general manager has been installed...the one they had to start with. Perhaps things will improve now. Here's the guarantee thing, along with discounting, which the former management had steadfastly refused to do: http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories....8240&EDATE=
I_heart_pki
Darn. I can only imagine the price of merchandise once you get in the park. The price for food and shirts at HRC's is crazy enough.
KIfan73
During the few times I've been to Myrtle Beach, I couldn't figure out why there wasn't a big amusement park there. I hate to hear that they got one and its not doing well. The last time I was there, a friend and I would wait hours just to get into a restaurant. If they have trouble getting crowds into a major amusement park, something's got to be REALLY wrong.
The Interpreter
Well, they opened up with a high price and no discounting. Now they are discounting. During their first season in a packed resort area. That alone should tell you something.
KIfan73
I wonder with MB being a beach destination, if people just aren't interested in going inland to a park. Surely, there are many other major parks close to beaches, though. Like someone said, I've ate in a HR restaurant, and the prices there were like getting punched in the teeth. I imagine its probably worse in their park.

When did you friend go because from April 15th-May ?? was the "Sound Check" time period. So some things were still being worked on. But I did think it wasn't smart to charge guests $50.00 for that time period. I didn't think it is smart to charge $50.00 in the first place. I think the only way the park will be successful is if the locals embrace it. They have lowered the price for locals to $40.00, but I still think that is a little steep. Another problem I have with Hard Rock Park is the placement. I was reading the history section on this website and how the developers of Kings Island listened to Roy Disney and bought the amount of land they thought needed and then bought five times more. Hard Rock Park is very very landlocked and even has a height restriction because of the airport next to it. They can only go around 155 feet high. That restriction also included fireworks. The Interpreter
The friend who encountered the closed rides went the first week of June, just before the discounting started. To make matters worse, just as he got back, he read about the discounting. He was ticked.

They typically are only seeing 300-500 guests a day The same friend went to the Park and had nothing positive to say. Sad thing is, it looks like they did a nice job with it. Detailed and nicely themed. There just isn't anything to do there and whats there is mediocre at best. We may be taking a trip up in two weeks, I'll be sure to post a TR when I get back. - Todd

misselaineeuss
Thanks for the information. I was considering a stop at HRP when we go to the beach later this year. Think I'll save my money and spend it at KI.

A_Titanic_Mess
Just a little bit of info on the Hard Rock/PKI connection...there are about 30 former PKI and Paramount Parks employees now working at the Hard Rock in Myrtle Beach. Many of the folks at the HRP now left PKI after Cedar Fair took over. None of them had anything good to say about working for Cedar Fair, so they left on went to the Hard Rock. Sorry to hear that the HRP is not bringing in the guests. Frankly, I don't think Myrtle Beach was the right location for that park. A bigger destination city would have worked better. The Interpreter
And from what I hear, some of those former Paramount Parks folk have already left HRP, while others quietly rue the day they left Cedar Fair.
Coasterkidman
And from what I hear, some of those former Paramount Parks folk have already left HRP, while others quietly rue the day they left Cedar Fair. That's just cause people got used to the Paramount, and when Cedar Fair took over people hated them, when in all reality Cedar Fair is as Joe Cool as Snoopy! The Interpreter
Excuse me, but why would people who now work for Hard Rock Park wish they had not left Cedar Fair because "people got used to the Paramount, and when Cedar Fair took over people hated them, when in all reality Cedar Fair is as Joe Cool as Snoopy!" Actually, just my husband and I are going (to celebrate my upcoming 30th birthday). For me, the baby is still too young to take to a park. But, he will definitely go when he can properly enjoy it. =)
KIBeast
Thanks for the information. I was considering a stop at HRP when we go to the beach later this year. Think I'll save my money and spend it at KI. Yes, save your money. My sister just went to MB the same week I was at Daytona and she said HRP pretty much disappointed. She said the Led Zepplin coaster is boring. She liked the Moody Blues dark ride, though. She said Maximum RPM coaster was more fun than the Led coaster. Not to mention she said she was none to happy to pay $43/ticket(found a discount) with so little to do.
DropZone99
If my family does go to Myrtle Beach this summer (we plan on doing so) than ill be going to Hard Rock Park. I wander when this coaster is going to open..?

Cormaster
Yeah I stumbled upon this park when I was looking up B&M coasters and saw "Led Zeplin:The Ride - a B&M sitdown coaster". So I clicked on that one, and then found out about the whole park. I thought it was a cool concept and an awesome start. Is it really true they can't go over 150 Feet? Well they might as well bulldoze it now! With the ride closings and stuff, you'd like to think its just a first year thing. KI can never keep a coaster running consistently its first year, so imagine a whole park of new rides! Anyway I thought Myrtle Beach had some amusement park called "the Pavillion" that was bulldozed and I automatically assumed that HRP was the replacement. Just curious because everyone's acting like they have never had an amusement park there before. Isn't that where our Son of Beast Trains came from? Just curious because everyone's acting like they have never had an amusement park there before. Isn't that where our Son of Beast Trains came from? The Pavillion was a staple of downtown Myrtle Beach for many years. They closed their gates because downtown is trying to improve the crowd and image. The Pavillion was no longer drawing a family crowd but more than less desirable individuals visited the park. Yes SoB does use some of the trains from the Huricane. Family Kingdom does still reside south of downtown and the SwampFox is a great ride. Hard Rock park is located on the outskirts of town out towards Walcamaw, which use to have some shopping and theaters when more guests stayed downtown. Over the last few years the only thing that existed out there was Mideviel Times and the QVC outlet. Basically dead area. HRP comes in, tears most everything down and they expect tourists to spend a good chunk of change to enter. Not to mention the majority of the family crowd stays in North Myrtle Beach, Briarcliff or Cherrywood, also a lot go South of Downtown towards surfside. The downtown is dead and in general this park will be lucky to survive.
The Interpreter
Especially given the widely reported poor service and poor guest experiences along with poor value the park is apparently delivering. Just because you are in a tourist area doesn't mean you can overcharge and underdeliver and expect to survive.
