California's Great America advice?

Featured Replies

any advice for my trip to California's Great America (i think thats what it's called now or was called and i didnt know....the old PGA) ? like where is good to eat (especially that part heh) or what rides i HAVE to ride?

my usual park is Kings Island where i work (I'm not ready for vacation to end :( ) so is anything better there compared to KI? please respond asap.

It is a great park. I have bad knees so I am not alowed to ride Vortex, but Flight Deck is so much fun. I think you will love it. I also love Drop Tower it is a blast. The flowers and everything are beautiful. When I went FireFall was not open but I have herd it is a blast. My family lives in California so I have also been to Knott's they are are both beautiful parks, but Knott's takes the cake. If you are also heading down south just PM me.

^^Knott's is too small!!!! Count me as someone who finds it a little creepy that I can walk from one side to the other in just 4 minutes!!

At, KI (or CP, etc.) the walking is great exercise and part of the experience!! And besides....just down the street is the best theme park in the world!! (no, NOT DCA!! LOL....)

The park is not small at all we are trying to be positive. Plus there are three parks down the street.

Start at: Paramount's Great America 4701 Great America Pkwy Santa Clara, CA 95054

1. Head north on Great America Pkwy toward Tasman Dr - 0.2 mi

2. Make a U-turn at Tasman Dr - 1.2 mi

3. Merge onto US-101 S via the ramp to San Jose - 36.9 mi

4. Take exit 356 for 10th St/CA-152 E - 0.3 mi

5. Turn left at E 10th St/CA-152/Pacheco Pass Hwy Continue to follow CA-152/Pacheco Pass Hwy - 2.8 mi

6. Turn right to stay on CA-152/Pacheco Pass Hwy Continue to follow CA-152 - 37.8 mi

7. Merge onto I-5 S via the ramp to Los Angeles - 233 mi

8. Take exit 170 for Magic Mtn Pkwy - 0.2 mi

9. Turn right at Magic Mountain Pkwy - 374 ft

Arrive at: Six Flags Magic Mountain Inc 26101 Magic Mountain Pkwy Valencia, CA 91355

4 Hours, 51 Minutes

And that is a very rosy predicted travel time, assuming no backed up traffic or accidents, which, I can tell you, is very unrealistic.

Demon is a fantastic ride at California's Great America...but if I had only one day to spend in a park in Northern California, I'd spend it at Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, one of my favorite parks anywhere, with its fantastic atmosphere, great Giant Dipper coaster and ocean side setting. My second choice would be Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo....with California's Great America being a distant third choice. Either of the first two choices are within an easy hour's drive of San Fran...
