Geauga Lake: Park Is About Gone, Here is Some History

Featured Replies

  • 1 month later...

the history of the park is so sad, i went there when it was six flags ohio when i was like 5

I had a lot of fun and it is very sad to see a park like this go and to read the story

R.I.P. Geauga Lake. :(

WOW... nice to see this topic here, thank you. I have a LOT of pics I was, and now will, post to the Random Photo topic of some GL coasters (including the one of X-Flight that you just posted giga, right on!!) I was just rather hesitant. On a side note.... can anyone here who may be associated with the industry and the logistics of such a move come up with a valid explaination as to why Villain, a hybrid taken from us at just 7 years of age, was not relocated to WOF as opposed to building Prowler? Sorry but to me Prowler looks REALLY WEAK and Villain would have been a perfect fit in the same area.

Well, with relocating a wooden coaster, there isn`t that much cost savings, as they would have to pay for dismantling the ride, and then rebuilding it in its new location. And besides, would you rather receive a relocated GCI wooden coaster from GL or a new GCI masterpiece?

I believe you meant relocated CCI or a GCI masterpiece.

I knew what you meant, but just trying to clarify.

I wont answer the "would you rather" question due to a personal bias on the subject.... but thank you for the viable answer. I can understand the dollars and cents of the relocation. Incidentaly, the one "would I rather" subject I will broach is "I would rather have celebrated the 120th Anniversary this year than watched the park get leveled" but I digress.

Not only that but from watching the relocation of Firehawk and Dominator alot of extra ground work is required since the supports and such arent desgined for that area. So the the footers and things have to of different size and ground work must be close to the ground work of the pervious area. The only savings on moving a ride is a) ablity to upgrade to newer compontents to allow better relibilty, not having to pay for new steel and that is about it! There is also more labor involved so what are the parks really saving?

If Geauga Lake was still around, i wander if they would have gotten anything for 2008 or 2009? It's hard to believe GL has been closed for over a year now.
