Haunt Crowd control Ideals

I got to thinking today and as everyone knows Haunt can get really crowded on a Sat. night. Well I had a ideal and I think in 2005 or so during FearFest they opened some of the indoor attractions at 4pm or so and I noticed that during the later hours there were less people later that night and during FearFest the park was only open till 12 or so. Therefore I think opening some of the attractions earlier in the day could mean less crowds late at night or you could do a lot more attractions and make Haunt even more enjoyable.Give me your thoughts on this matter please.

I think the day is coming that Halloween Haunt is an upcharge attraction, even for season passholders. Why it isn't now is beyond me. Especially given that Cedar Fair just removed the upcharge from Scarowinds, yet charges what it does at Knott's Scary Farm. Sometimes what that company does makes my head hurt. Surely a company that charges as much as it does for what it calls food can charge in order to give all concerned a much more enjoyable experience, while adding to its coffers some much needed moola. It just doesn't make sense that they have not.

I still remember the many good and sound arguments for doing so that were expressed on this site last fall after the park closed. Some of the park's strongest supporters were advocating the upcharge, saying it was well deserved and would give all concerned a much better experience. I compare what is now to the old Paramount Parks Bring A Friend Free Days.

Lastly, I know you meant ideas, but I believe charging a reasonable upcharge for Halloween Haunt would be ideal.

You know, I disagreed with the upcharge before, but after thinking about it, I am changing my view. For me, Haunt is so crowded now that it is not enjoyable. The attractions are well done, but when you have to spend most of the evening standing in line, it just kills it. Last year I went twice on saturday night and was only able to enjoy two attractions due to the time waiting in line. The rest of the evening was spent watching roamers.

Yeah I meant ideas sorry it's early.Yeah I agree with you on a upcharge now it would help control crowds I remember last year waiting 2 1/2 for club blood last year. Then the line for The Beast was like a hour at last year at haunt.

Perhaps an upcharge for season pass holders, but at a discount. Say $10.

These Halloween events are HUGE moneymakers for the parks. CP, for instance, will have their busiest Saturdays of the year during Halloweekends (provided the weather is cooperating on the shores of Lake Erie). I have been to HW on a Sat., and I will never do it again. I'll go on a Friday night, or a Sunday, and spend Saturday at PIB.

I would have no problem paying $10 with my season pass for HH for less crowds and shorter lines.

And, IMO, the larger crowds really do take away from the HH events. And not that it is their fault, but, those working want to hurry and decrease the wait, which takes away from the main objective of the events- to scare the guests.

There is also a very simple solution to the long lines, go Friday. Last year I got a hotel (from Toledo) for a Friday night, did the Haunts and most of the roller coasters on Friday, went during the day on Saturday (which before the Haunt was quite empty outside of the Nick U area) and did one house and The Beast one last time before going home. Best decision I ever made. I cant stand Saturdays at any park during Halloween, its painful.

Hi, my name is Jennifer and I am new here. I agree that KI needs to do some things to control the crowds during Halloween Haunt. I have never been before last night 10/4 and I dont think I will ever go again. I spent the entire day at the park and rode almost all of the roller coasters, I had a great time all day long and couldnt contain my excitement about the haunt. I waited in line for 2.5 hours just to go through Urgent Scare which was awesome but not worth that kind of wait. By the time that was over me and my friends were exhausted.

I took my concerns to guest services and explained that I felt that they needed some sort of a plan in place for crowd control so that paying guests could enjoy their experience during the haunt. It makes no sense at all to continue letting people in to the park when the lines are already that long. I was told by the staff at KI that their concern was making money so they let people in all night. I felt that KI does not care at all about weather or not the guests enjoy themselves as long as they are getting their money. I would be all for an upcharge for the haunt so that maybe then so many people would not come at the same time.

The best part of the entire haunt was the electric chair in the front of the park by guest relations.

LOL I like the electric char guy too. He'll get some of the employees as we're leaving for the night ;)

But last saturday was probably up there with one of the worst in the past 3 years. I know at one point in time, I walked my Urgent Scare line to warm up a little and check things out. I think I got to just past the goblet toss and saw the line at least to X-base (before the fog kicked in) and went "o dear Lord..." and turned back around.

Now I think maybe an idea would be for maybe season pass holders (or everyone) to do what they do at CP when they got Millenium. Have a timed ticket dispenser. We're now doing that with ppl in a wheelchair, where we give them an approximate wait time, to come back at the time, and get to go in at the front of the line. Kind of a good idea once the kinks get worked out, and everyone understands it (including the guests!!) But for some of the bigger (or newer, ie. Urgent Scare) maybe giving ppl a wait time, to come get back in line, might be a good way to go!

I wonder how changing the scare-zones back to true scare-zones would affect the crowds... more people elsewhere instead of waiting in line for them I guess.

A small upcharge, under $10, would be amazing. Or at least offer something to cut the lines. Like $20ish dollars and one-time through all attractions without a wait, I'd do that.

Yeah I could see the upcharge for quick pass or something like that. Would be great for those willing to pay, but still the general public will be the majority of the line and wont be too happy about folks going in front of them.

I still think the biggest issue is going Saturday, avoid it like the plague.

I havent been to the haunt yet. I planning on taking my sister and her fiance (or however you spell it) They are non pass holders and I want them to get the most of value for thier ticket. Do you think ti be better if we went on a Friday from 7-1 which is 6 hours. I want them to ride Firehawk and maybe the Crypt if its open because they don't no that it has changed plus 3 or 4 haunts. Would thier be enough time to do that on a Friday?

True, very true. A man in the group behind me in line for Trail of Terror wasn't too pleased about the media jumping ahead of us:

Guy: What the f***?! Who the s*** are they!? They should've have to wait in the d*** line the f***ing rest of us!"

Ty: Excuse me, could you please watch your language? It is a family park.

Guy: Who the hell are you? Some Jesus kid?

Yeah...

Anyhow... Six Flags Magic Mountain now charges $5 for a wristband just to do the haunted houses. I'd love to see that happen. Admission to Haunt is included with park pass or ticket while the houses and trails are extra. Scar-zones, obviously, free.

The parks need to upcharge for these events!! Cp was just as bad Saturday Night. We got there around 6:30 and by the time we rode Magnum and Gemini it was quarter after 9. Then we had to wait for over 10 minutes (3 different times) while people walking down the midways had to squeeze through the huge crowds waiting in line for food. By then I realized that if we did another ride it would be after 11:00 by the time we were done, so we left and came back Sunday (which was wonderful).

A couple things. The "scare zones" as they used to be called have been changed slightly. It used to be with Cornstalkers that it wasn`t one directional, and you didn`t go through in groups like you now do. In fact, KI now calls all their scare zones outdoor mazes.

Secondly, The first couple of years after Fear Fest was included free with park admission, they did open several of the indoor haunted houses up at 3pm. I believe Maze of Madness (now Death Row), House of Darkness, and Circus of Horrors 3d (now Carnevil) were the mazes that opened early on Saturdays.

Trust me, as crazy as it sounds, you'll have more time to get more things done on friday than sat. the lines are 1/5th the time shorter on fri. even with all the time, the lines are crazy super long even for rides. in fact the bonus to fridays is theres hardly any ride lines ;)

I think she was talking about the indoor mazes, having them opened on a Sunday say from 1-8 would be very doable. Also, gator I dont think they would open the park any earlier on a Saturday, in my world the indoor haunts would open like this:

Friday: 7-1 am

Saturday: 4-1 am

Sunday: 1-8
