Well, stay away from Coney Island`s Ferris Wheel right around dusk. That is when the spiders that live on the wheel like to come out! Every morning, we have three or four cars that we have to clean out the spider webs that were made overnight!

*shudder* That is one thing I don't like about CP. Spiders EVERYWHERE in the summer. Dragster, Milly, Wicked Twister, Magnum, I'd look up to see quarter-sized (or bigger) spiders swinging from the roof. :o

I'm afraid of very few things, and I have tried my best to get over my fear of them. I've tried to watch them build webs (got freaked out), I've tried to learn about them (got freaked out), and I've even petted a tarantula (gave me nightmares). I really, honestly hate those things.

Yeah, the spiders on the Ferris Wheel at Coney are rather large. One dropped onto a co-worker this past year in the middle of the afternoon, and she screamed bloody murder! Generally, the spiders on the wheel won`t bother people in the cars though. And it is extremely rare to see them out any other time other than at dusk/evening.

Actually many many years ago (it was likely 1999 or 1998) I was in line for the Kings Mills Log Flume (that was the name of it before the Thornberrys moved in). In the rock area right beside the splash down and next to the queue line there was a snake slithering along the rocks!

And don`t forget about the other smelly creatures that have been known to frequent both Kings Island and Coney Island! Once, after a ride on Drop Zone, we were not released from our seats at the conclusion of the ride because a skunk had entered the ride area and they were afraid everyone getting off the ride would startle it and cause it to spray. Luckily, it ducked under the fence by Skyflyer after a minute and we could exit the ride. At Coney, we have had a skunk in the women`s restroom by the picnic grove before. And my first year at Coney, a skunk had gotten down in the covered trench of the Scrambler that houses the main drive to power the ride. Well, the operator for the day started up the ride for the test runs and was greeted by a very foul smell and startled creature. That area of the park smelled like skunk for months after wards!

Well, one of my earlier years at Coney, the ride op working the now defunct Kiddie Circle Freeway did not inspect all the cars before opening the ride. And they should have. Because a squirrel had decided to use one of the cars as a deathbed! Needless to say, a parent was a little infuriated to find a dead animal in the car their kid was about to get into!

I wasn't too happy one day when I went this summer and there were bees EVERYWHERE.. in the queues, on the rides, in the midway, in the trees.. it was terrible. To make matters worse, the trash cans were full so the bees were swarming in them. I spent my whole day trying not to get stung.

At least one of us here, has had to keep guests away from a black rat-snake in the middle of the Coney Mall, and help move the creature off of the midway...

And there are those of us that had to attempt to calm down and distract an hysterical woman while the Landscaping crew removed a raccoon from Coney Mall:

But the story that sticks out most for me, besides The Beast incident, is this one. One night, since we were having a relatively slow night, my manager and I decided to take a walk around the park. We were in Coney and we saw a group of guests staring into one of the islands in the middle of the midway. We approached them and they said that there was a raccoon in there. I got on the radio and paged Landscaping to come for the animal (they are, or were at the time, the department that reponds to animal calls). My manager and I stayed there to insure no guests tried to approach it. Landscaping got there in a few minutes with their animal catching equipment. About that time, a woman comes up and starts screaming at us, "WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THAT DEFENSELESS ANIMAL? YOU'RE GOING TO KILL IT AREN'T YOU? I'M CALLING THE HUMANE SOCIETY, THE SPCA AND EVERYONE ELSE I CAN THINK OF! THIS IS NOT RIGHT! YOU NEED TO LET IT GO! IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING! JUST GUIDE IT OVER TO THAT GATE OVER THERE! YOU CAN'T KILL IT!" The woman's husband and daughter just stood at a distance behind her, looking embarassed the whole time. Once, the husband tried to intervene, but the woman yelled at him for trying to pull her away. My manager and I tried to call the woman down (and keep her distracted) while the grounds crew did their thing. They trapped the animal and carried it off. The woman then screams "THAT'S IT! WE'RE LEAVING AND NEVER COMING BACK! Kings Island IS NOTHING BUT A BUNCH OF ANIMAL MURDERERS!" I have no idea what Landscaping does with the animals it catches, but this woman just went ballistic on us. A ton of guests stopped and watched the whole thing, and we had numerous people come up to us afterwards, symapthizing with my manager and me. These guests told us that we handled the situation well and couldn't believe how we stayed so calm the whole time. It always feels good when people come up and say that you did something well, especially when people only tend to tell you about the negatives.
