If you were boss...

Ok let me set this up... Your uncle is the owner of Kings Island. (Forget Paramount) He has gotten into a crash and is not expected to live. He says that he wants you to take his park over, but there is a catch. You only have time to change one thing permanatly before the company takes in back and sells stock. Get it?

What would you change? Remember, only one thing...

The fountain! It needs to be put back to original condition! I think that Kings Island would be MUCH better off with one person calling the shots. It would be much more authentic that way! There would not be so many safety restrictions and there would not be the corporate advertising. Someone with an imagination, Kind of like Disney. Even today before making decisions, Mike Izener (sp) looks at what Walt himself would have wanted done. -adam12

Redo all the landscaping/theming throughout the entier park, making it look beautiful during the day and stunning at night. Lots of lights, new lights as well, neon, fiberoptics, Fresh bushes trimmed to the shape of different characters and other floral things sculpted as well. Fix the clock so it looks totall y awesome, all new platinum hands, polished to a shine. Fill in some of the grassy areas with other things, like bushes plants trees, to split it up and make it look intersting. Some really kewl desing out of plants and stuff, that can only be observed from the top fo the Eiffel Tower.

I am still upset that Paramount bought Kings Island. I have promised my self that if I ever have a business and it is liked by a lot of people that I will not change it as long as I live, at least that is in the way it is ran. It is always nice to see a business get larger and more profitable, but not change its authenticity! That is what Paramount has done to Kings Island, it has lost its charm, and it is almost to the point now that there is not turning back! They say now that the park it not very profitable, Well I say HOG WASH! If that is the case, then tell me how the original owners kept it so classy for years and still made a profit. They had all the shows and teeming, and the thing I miss the most is the street band that marched around and played music for all the guests. If you ask me teeming is everything because it is the atmosphere that sets the mood of the guests. Man that makes me so mad. LOL! it has been 10 years and I am still mad! I would have bought the park if I would have had the money! Hey, that brings up another point, how much does a park like that run these days? I wonder.... $100,000,000? more? less?

The Lord of the Rings idea is even worse than Tomb Rader, you can not go with a current theme, the rides need to be one of a kind and they need to have their own themeing and not be staged after a movie or something like that. I wish I were Bill Gates, I would offer Paramount twice what Kings Island is worth and the first two years of profits! If I had to buy all the parks in a package, then I would buy the rest of them too. I bet Kings Island could not be worth any more than $100,000,000.00 So I would offer them $200,000,000.00! Then I would turn that park around! Action Zone would be NO MORE! I would keep the rides that are currently there and re-theme them. I would make Drop Zone kind of like the Tower of Terror in Disney World, but much different so it would be authentic. All the gardens would recieve a MAJOR overhaul. The fountain would be restored to orignal condition, with the sculpted bushes and the rock beds instead of mulch and cheap maple trees! -adam12

not to get too off topic here, but the landscaping issues that adam12 is hitting on were being worked on for the most part...were being the key word. I don't know about now, because I've ceased to work there, but I remember once a week I had to walk the entire park with a HUGE list of things that looked ugly, a lot of which was my opinion and that list went to the higher-ups, and surprisingly, some things did get fixed...I think it's a matter of the park dumping too much other random stuff on the few employees they do have that are qualified to do those jobs...but I agree, it'd be nice to see the park get a general perk up!

All the old gardening and shaped bushes used to mainly be done by one man. He came to Kings Island when they moved from Coney Island. He made the cool bushes along the fountain, and the cylinder shaped trees in Coney Mall. He created the floral clock and calendar. Unfortunetly he passed away a few years back. Ever since he left the park all his wonderful creations that he worked so hard to make and preserve slowly disappeared.

If I had the choice, that is what I would do too, change the landscaping and theming. Make it more welcoming and friendly.

Big corporations take a great thing and just destroy it!

Thats not true.......... Kings Island still looks great. "Big Corporation" has nothing to do with it. What you said makes no sense and we are all now dumber for reading your posts.

Your saying All big corporations destroy things, your making it sound like they do things on purpose to make "YOU" mad. Taft broadcasting is a corporation, and they owned Kings Island, Karl Lindler owned Kings Island and did'nt do as good as Paramount. All Paramount has done is 1. Branding and 2. Made more safety restrictions, and thats it.

I am sorry I came over so strongly. I just think that a corporation like Paramount can not make the park as special as if one person or a small group of people owned it. Before Paramount a small group of people owned it and therefore it was easer to make decisions and things got done faster and were done with higher standards. -adam12 :D

It's all about the work ethic. Back in the day people were proud of their job no matter where they work. I think if Paramount knew of a potential problem they would be more inclined to fix it, but they don't know, because no one tells them. As for Kings Island I have gone for years, and think they have some great employees, but there is ALWAYS a bad apple in the bunch. PKI is going through big changes, and as for landscaping and themeing it did improve this year. The stuff that could get fixed was fixed especially with FOF, and Adventure Express. For someone like me who has been going to PKI for 15 years +. It's amazing to see what they've accomplished. I've grown up in a family that has many buisness owners, and I can only imagine what it takes to run that park, and I would'nt want to do it. It's tough to run a small buisness, and to keep things maintained and ad some new multi-million dollar project is expensive even for big corporations who probably have a budjet that looks like a nightmare. My budjet is a nightmare and all I have to do is pay bills and buy groceries. We might not like some of their descisions but their going to make them, and complaining only causes ulcers, so talk about the good stuff that has made PKI the fun place to go for young and old for over 30 years. :)

Sounds good to me! Sorry to be so negative. I have a season pass for 2003 anyone else? I think it would be cool if PKI unlimited.com sold hats or maybe pins to ware when we go to Kings Island, then we would know who each other is! We could even put our user names on them! -adam12 B)

All of the ideas here are great. Interesting that a resounding theme among so many of the posts had to due with the landscaping and park appearance. The park is 30 years old, and is looking it. Some major work needs done on the infrastructure of the park. The buildings are looking bad. The landscaping, while improved, is just not what it used to be. I think the place is just dirty. A good cleaning couldn't possibly hurt. If I were the "boss", I would bulldoze Intenational Street and start over. If Paramount were still part of the picture, maybe the street becomes Sunset Boulevard. Hollywood themed. I just think the street needs some major help.

That sound neat, but I would hope that theyredo the gates as well. if they made it lower, it could in fact be sunset strip, as is now, you would have to look past the gates in order to see the sunset just due to the size of that whole building.
