The Interpreter Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 That's twice today I have been told I should write a book about the industry (the other time was in the real world). That's a bit odd! Quote

That is really odd! But you just have that sense of humor that would seem really interesting to read in a book. Quote
CoasterKrazy Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Which rides do I miss the most? Phantom Theater and Tomb Raider. There's just something about themeing that get's me every time. Quote
Monroe Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Tumble Bug, my mothers favorite too. There certainly is no comparison to any other memory that I have of any thing else in this world, than a ride on the Tumble Bug with my mother. Quote
auge.dog Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I enjoy threads such as these as it allows me to reminisce some. I was 7 when KI opened in 1972 and went there every year at least once from that time up until I graduated HS in '83. From 83-93, I probably went to KI a total of 3-5 times. I do remember riding The Bat, King Cobra and Vortex, but each only 1 or 2 times. For that reason, I cannot really remember either KC or The Bat well enough to say they are the rides I miss most. From 94-2006, I did not go to KI at all - mostly because I no longer lived in the area. In the middle of 2007, we moved back to Cincinnati. Now, I have kids, so they definately wanted to go. We went once in 2007, 2x in 2008, and now have season passes for 2009. While it is still a fun park, I believe it caters a bit more to older kids now. Perhaps not, but I know there a few rides my kids would have loved that are no longer there. Their current ages are 7 and 5. My kids love to 'drive' anything, so I know they would have loved the Antique Cars or even the Marathon Cars. They certainly loved the Tomorrow Land Speedway at Magic Kingdom. They also certainly would love a ride like Enchanted Voyage - something that allows their imagination to run wild. They also would have enjoyed the Sky Ride, as they like to be able to see everything down below. Finally, I think they would have gotten a kick out of rides like the Rotor, Tumble Bug, and the Bayern Curve. Quote
Cort Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Hands down, It would have to be the Flyin' Eagles..... First ride I ever took my son on! Quote
thatbandguy8807 Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 i would have to say......rides that i can remember.....sunshine turnpike, les taxis, and mc scrappy's farm (even if it wasnt really a ride) but rides that i used to ride that i apparently was also mad when taken out. Lion country safari, and smurf's enchanted voyage..... Quote
IndyGuy4KI Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Which rides do I miss the most? Phantom Theater and Tomb Raider. There's just something about themeing that get's me every time. I do miss the Tomb Raider theme and it's effects of the now Crypt, but they definetly spiced up the movement of the ride in it's transition. Quote
I_heart_pki Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 It's a tie between Phantom Theatre and The old Log flume ride for me! Quote
goofywdw Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I remember being scared to go down the big hill at the end of the old log flume and telling my dad to that I was scared. He told me he would tell the guy at the top of the hill to stop it and so did everyone else in the log. They just waved at him and I was terrified but it was one of my most memorable moments on a long gone ride! Quote
I_heart_pki Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I was always sooo scared no matter how many times I rode it! Ahhh I love that ride haha. Quote
Rustbucket Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Flying Eagle I have been getting a few rides on Phantom Flyers at Carowinds last two years. I rode it around 30 times. They actually encourage you to "rip" them since they are harder to do so than Flying Eagle. I believe they changed the motor when they moved it down to Carowinds. Quote
RailRider Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Most missed ride for me. I have a few. Flying Eagles Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal King Cobra and Zodiac which I find very unnerving to this day Also I found a great nostalgic video of KI on youtube, great footage of The Bat and other rides. Still shocked they thought it would be ok not to bank the turns. My how times have changed Quote

My how times have changed i read somewhere that they did bank the turns (or some of them) at one point but it still didn't work out to well. i have no idea if thats true or not...so if not its just what i heard...figured here would be the place to find out Quote
RailRider Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Watch the video I posted in my earlier post. I think that will answer any questions you have about The Bat Quote
Jaredap88 Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 yeah ive seen the video (and watched it again) i just heard that like not long before it was closed they tried banking some turns and it still just didn't work out for whatever reason...i'll see if i can find where i read that again to make sure i didn't read something wrong (or it may have been something like wikipedia where someone was just making something up to sound smart) Quote
RailRider Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Sorry I misunderstood your post. Yes one of the many things attempted to solve the issues with The Bat was to bank some of the curves. Kind of a last ditch effort, but still to no avail. Here is a great Link that should answer most of your Bat questions. Quote
raptorcp21 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I heard that one of Bat car fell out and two people were killed..... After that accident, they decide to take down and build Vortex Quote
The Interpreter Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I heard that one of Bat car fell out and two people were killed..... After that accident, they decide to take down and build Vortex Which is completely and totally untrue. Quote
faceofbeast Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Does the Tomb Raider scenery count? If that, then yes. If not, definately the King Cobra. Quote
nhimes90 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I miss the Phantom Theatre, Flying Eagles, and the Antique Cars. I still don't see why they ripped out the Flying Eagles! Quote
The Interpreter Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Simple. Ride rotation. It was determined by then management that the ride would be moved to Carowinds. And so it was. Quote
Ksings Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I never got the chance to ride the King Cobra! I was too small then they tore it down before I got the chance to! Quote
violakat03 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I never got the chance to ride the King Cobra! I was too small then they tore it down before I got the chance to! I never rode The Bat so I feel your pain. Though King Cobra was one of my favorite coasters. Quote
tigellinus Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 ^^But at least you can still ride very similar versions of KC at CW and Carowinds! And after riding both last summer I can tell you the Togo stand-up's are quite comfy'er than the B&M stand-up's IMO... Quote
crazypkikid2005 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I would say for me most missed rides would be the eagles, phantom theater, and TR:TR (because the crypt just sucks now). Quote
deidre1976 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Not trying to age myself, but the Tumble Bug and the Zodiac. Quote
Jaredap88 Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 so why do so many people miss the eagles so much? im not saying it was a bad ride or anything but in the several times i rode it i never thought it was anything all that amazing. (it was fun i just didn't realize so many people loved it oh so much) Quote
tigellinus Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 ^^Ummm....because snapping the Eagles can get you wicked air unlike that of a coaster!! Of course, snapping is not allowed most places, and I want to claim KI's weren't that good for snapping anyway. Now, the eagles at the Fun Spot in Indiana?? Holy crap! Quote
