dare-to-fly
Taking a photo on the ride is considered a safety violation and is seen as just as dangerous as not securing your lap bar because if you loose your grip, your camera becomes a loose object. They will remove you from the park for either if you are caught. I was taking pictures of The Beast's station toward the end of last season - just in case. I was asked by a ride operator (that I had seen many times and we really enjoyed each other) if I was taking some good pictures. I told her I thought so, and was asked "are you taking some good pictures on the rides?" I immediately recognized that this was a trick question, but just said no, and was asked "would you tell me if you were?" Without missing a beat I said "probably not, but I follow the rules here." She said she believed me. I told the truth by the way, but I still wonder what she would have said/done if I had told her that I had been taking on ride photos. (Which I had not...just to reiterate.) violakat03
That's bizarre. I've taken pictures in stations and even inside the train on BLSC (before the lap bars were down - I put my camera away before they were) and never had an op say anything to me. In your position my first reaction probably would have been "I'm not that stupid!"

She proceeded to offer to take my picture while sitting in the train, so it wasn't an issue. She was just chatting for fun.
Tomkatt7
When we were at the park last year, the guy on the microphone at the ride was VERY happy to be there. The Beast station was the most fun of all the rides we were at. He knew every part of the ride, and made it fun. If it was someones first ride, they would have been very excited the way he was building it up!!!
Jaredap88
how do you think they'd feel about those cameras that have the velcro straps that can actually be secured to something...helmet cam like thing.....(i know its a no but i felt like throwing it out there for no real reason other than to entertain myself)

kjkjkj
I know this doesn't have to do with cameras being brought on rides, but what are the rules on MP3 Players? I'd like to listen to the TRTR soundtrack while riding The Crypt. haha... which would be possible if MP3 Players are allowed on rides. The Interpreter
At Six Flags, one can no longer wear hats on the coasters in most parks. The better to make you spend a buck on a locker...

kjkjkj
Thats what I figured. Kings Island should sell "Coaster Warrior Head Cams" that are specifically made to stay on your head during a rollercoaster. That way they could say only the "Coaster Warrior Head Cams" may be permitted to film while riding. Plus the park could make a few bucks selling them. I doubt something like that would happen though, because people would be to dumb to put them on right, and they would fly backwards and hit somebody. Or something along those lines, and you would most likely look like a fool wearing a head cam on a coaster lol.

What kind of Nikon do you have? My husband's got an older D100 but we don't usually take it into the park - it's too bulky to carry on the rides and too valuable to be left at the station or in a locker. I carry a Kodak EasyShare C613 point & shoot that takes great pictures during the day and can fit in my cargo pocket on the rides.
Jaredap88
i just have the d70...so yours is nicer...and now im jealous..lol and yeah i was trying to think what to do with it while on rides....i may just go for two days..ride one day..and take the camera the second
Dalefan
The camera thing at Cedar Fair Parks is strict if you have one that is big or they can see it. I have had small cameras since i have been going to the parks and i put them into my pockets so i dont have to buy a locker. When i was at the park last year i do know that a person had a camera on Top Thrill Dragster but didnt take it out till they got to the tree(the light tree that has the heads back, arms down and hold on it). When the onride camera took the 1st shot the picture booth seen it and called the police. They got kicked out of the park. I was at the picture booth when it went down and they wasnt happy lol. For some odd reason the person who had the camera on the ride stayed around the ride hence getting caught insteading of walking around the park. I did also see at KennyWood last year a lady talking on her cell phone while on a spinning ride. I know that YouTube has alot of videos of coasters on it. These are onride videos taken by the riders. Alot of them have gotten bashed by most of the viewers cause they know they arent allowed to do that on rides. And Six Flags not allowing people to take pics of the coaster Superman is just dumb. They just dont like alittle bit of pressure from a certin park chain. Lol.
The Interpreter
Please understand the park has more options available to them than just removing you from the park should you be apprehended on a ride with a camera. Under such circumstances, you could be prosecuted and even found guilty of violating Ohio's Rider Responsibility Law. Depending on the circumstances, there could also be other criminal charges filed...at least some of which start with words like "reckless disregard for...(the safety of others)." If, heaven forfend, someone is actually injured as a result of your actions, other civil and criminal actions could result.

Nikon's model numbers don't go in any particular order. The newest version is the d90. If you ever want to go and do a photography day, I'd be happy to grab the d100 and the p&s and join you. Tomkatt7
Last year, AE was a walk on, as usual. As we were waiting at the gate for the train before us to leave, I heard the ride ops talking to one another about a girl that was on the ride. I heard on of them say that she was on her 3rd ride in a row, and they had already told her twice to NOT talk her cell phone while riding. She was on the train that came in for us to ride on. She was told again NOT to use her phone while riding. They did not make her get off the ride because no one was standing at the gate for the car she was on, so we were lucky enough to be riding right in front of her.We heard her talking on her phone all the way through the ride. Speaking loud, making sure everyone else on the ride knew what she was doing. When the ride ended, We got off, but she stayed on. As we were leaving, we watched a ride op telling her again. We laughed as we left. Wonder what you have to do to actually be removed from a ride, or the park? I wouldn't recommend that anyone break the rules. But if you do, what are the odds that they'll be enforced?
goofywdw
Wow Six Flags' policy is much more strict. I heard someone on another site say that they were banned from any Six Flags Park for a year because they had to stop the lift and come up and get their camera. On AE I don't think it is that much of a big deal but on something like Firehawk I would be more strict.
violakat03
When riding Magnum this past summer, the couple behind us decided to take a self portrait going up the chain hill. I turned and said "hang on a second, there's a camera coming up" and they looked at me blankly and proceeded to hold the camera up in full view to take multiple pictures of themselves. I told them two or three times to wait a second till there was a dead spot between cameras and they obviously had no idea what I was talking about. When we hit the brakes before the station at the end of the ride, I turned to them again and said "you guys need to be careful with the camera on the rides, you aren't allowed to take pictures during them. I was trying to tell you to put it down when the surveillance cameras could see you." Another blank look and then "oh, really? I didn't know that. I wonder why not?" Here's your sign, I guess. Good to know that if it had been Six Flags they might have been removed for being completely dense.
Jaredap88
i dont even understand why people would even want to do that. why risk your camera or your day at the park not to mention the safety of yourself and others. and there is no way someone can honestly think its okay to take pictures of themself on a ride is there? thats what the on-ride photo is for! People are cheap. Why spend $10 on a well-positioned, clear, safe picture of you while the ride is (usually) doing something cool, when you can take a free crappy self-portrait while climbing the lift hill? I can kind of understand snapping a quick pick of something you can only see from on the ride (I will admit one instance of stupidity and guilt on this one) but even then ... look for a better vantage point or wait till someone like Don Helbig decides to climb the ride structure and take that pic instead. I probably risked my camera the most on the Eiffel Tower of any ride this season, since it spent all it's time in my cargo pockets on coasters. However, I did hold it outside the bars on the Eiffel Tower to get clear pictures and I didn't have a wrist strap on it at the time. My husband was freaking out ... but I had an absolutely firm grip on it with both hands at all times!
goofywdw
I have taken videos with my cell phone with a wrist strap at Six Flags Great Adventure. But only on Runaway Mine Train, Rolling Thunder, and Skull Mountain. All of these being smaller coasters where I was sure not to drop my phone or anything. I don't think I would ever risk that again though. It was 2 years ago and bad influence from old friends.
violakat03
My mom says she had no idea you couldn't take pictures from rides. I seriously thought it was announced everywhere clearly enough (as well as being common sense) that no one could think this. But .. she says she had no idea and has done it. Keep in mind, she doesn't ride anything more dangerous than Adventure Express. She said she's taken pictures of me and my brother on Shake Rattle & Roll, the octopus, and even Splash Mountain at WDW. All during parts where it was smooth enough she could turn and snap a pic of us with a manual focus camera.
goofywdw
I've taken videos of all of the Mountains at Magic Kingdom and on Expedition Everest and Tower of Terror. They didn't seem to mind at all at the Magic Kingdom but on the other two I kinda sneeked it. I was on my cell phone texting before our elevator departed and the Cast Member yelled at me to put it away so I waited until we got to the first stop in the elevator shaft to turn it on. I have seen videos on youtube where the Expedition Everest Cast Members wave at the camera before the coaster is dispatched so I guess they didn't care but I didn't ask when I took my video. Jaredap88
and i dont usually understand the whole cell phone video...i mean unless you have a crazy nice cell phone. any cell video ive seen is always such poor quality both in sound and picture that i cant make it more than 30 seconds into the video. and i always hate when im looking at coaster videos on youtube and i have to hear some guy tryin to be all "gangsta" to look cool in front of his friends (its always pretty entertaining when the car drops on the first hill and he screams like a girl though)
