popwar
anyone know about the vending machine and food prices? are they going to be lower at all? they are outrageous . $3.50 for a 20oz Coke last year out of the machine.
Guest rcfreak339
It will always be like that, every place you go like Reds games, Amusment Parks, Shopping Malls, ect... will always have high prices not only on vending machines but on any kind of food or beverage you get at KI, you are going to have to live with it, I hate it too but well it just won't change...... SonofBeast07
once you buy a season pass the park can't make much money off of you. so high food prices allow them to make a decent profit. it sucks but it's going towards a good cause. markhudson17
^ I agree. They have to pay off that $22 Million some way.
The Interpreter
Actually, as of the end of last calendar year, they had to pay off that $2.079 billion eventually, and given how well the recent refinancing effort went, I'd suspect the company will try to extract at least a nickel or two more from each capita willing to give them some pers once they have entered the gates. Ebitda, ebitda!
KIfan1980
I recommend just skipping the vending machines. Go to Subway instead where you can get a $5 footlong $6 six-inch. (sorry for repeating a line I read elsewhere without giving credit, but I couldn't find the original thread) I guess this is one advantage of dragging a stroller into KI, I can always stash an extra bottle of water or the refill cup in there. The Interpreter
I doubt the six inches will be $6 this year at the park. Not to mention most of the ones I like best aren't sold at the park.
markr
Lately I have been packing a cooler of food and drinks and having a nice picnic lunch on the grass island by the KI sign. There are nice shady trees there. Not only do you save money but you end up getting better food than inside the park.
KIFAN!
This year, isn't there a goldpass perk for pizza?
The Interpreter
Yes, and if it is like it was last year, it will be only suitable for families or groups of four people or so. The park really needs to remember there are those of us who do come to the park alone and do not eat as much a family of German Shepherds! CoastersRZ
Yep! And the Subways at KI do not offer meatball subs, unfortunately.
KIFAN!
Thanks guys! Ok this is a stupid question but if you have a platinum pass that also counts as a gold pass and you get all the perks right?
The Interpreter
That is what they are saying so far this year...

That bugs me. I came wanting something involving chicken, ranch, and a garden, and left with $12 worth of tuna on wheat.
The Interpreter
Which of course means the dreaded (for me) mayonnaise. I have not lost the weight I have to be eating extraneous mayonnaise. No, thanks. I'll pass, and go to the car...or eat a piece of LaRosa's, only to wonder yet again why New York pizza is not a big seller in Cincinnati! IBEW_Sparky
Its SO nice to be of (well more than) legal driving age. The ONLY thing I ever buy in-park is refills on my Firehawk cup... otherwise its west bound and down... usually to Ruby Tuesday... to get some (usually) wonderful food with far greater variety and the ability to partake in a martini if I so choose. I figure if Im going to spend 30 to 40 bucks on food for my Wife and I... its going to be GOOD food.
KIfan73
^You bring up a good point. The food at KI is definitely expensive, but there's not really anything REALLY good at the park to eat, for any price. Just one place in the park with something really high quality would be nice. The park really needs to remember there are those of us who do come to the park alone and do not eat as much a family of German Shepherds! I completely agree with you on this one. My monthly checks to see what the meal deals were ended in July. After that, I realized that the only meal deals that you get were family meals. I wish there was a version of the meal deal suitable for one passholder. You bring up a good point. The food at KI is definitely expensive, but there's not really anything REALLY good at the park to eat, for any price. Just one place in the park with something really high quality would be nice. Personally, I thought the food was much better this past year. I also think that Stunt Crew Grill's bacon cheddarburger is wonderful, and I don't know of anywhere else outside of KI besides Chick-Fil-A that you can get those delicious waffle fries. One thing that has kept me from being annoyed with food and drink prices is to always get an all day drink wristband, and also to remember that Kings Island is a park that I cherish. Buying the high priced food directly benefits the park and makes sure that it stays open and successful. Eating in the parking lot picnic grove is, in some ways, like turning your back on Kings Island.

As far as there not being anything REALLY good at the park to eat, I find the LaRosa's pepperoni pizza quite delicious (sp?). Also, I like Skyline coneys with some fries. And the Chick-Fil-A waffle fries are really, REALLY good. For drinks, I usually get water in my souvenir (sp?) cup and then get it filled up once, only for dinner. iChase
I've been tired of food prices at KI for several seasons. But last year was when I really felt it. I realized that I was spending in the neighborhood of $30-$40 every time for food. I just can't do that every time I go. I'm going to be freakin' broke after food and gas this season. That being said, I still have to have my traditional food at KI. Funnel Cake and fries in Rivertown, a lemon shake up from one of the carts, a blueberry ice cream cone, and a chocolate milkshake from Juke Box. After I get at least one in the season, I'll usually stick with free water and restaurants outside KI.
dare-to-fly
Jeepers, iChase! No wonder you felt the prices. I usually just get one meal and an all day drink wristband. Using this system, I usually only remember spending about $20 each time I went to KI. ...then again...if I did that every time, I spent $540...ouch! goofywdw
I guess I'm lucky I live so close. I never eat at the park. I always eat at home and since this is my first year back to the area and I have a car I think I will be packing a lunch most of the time. I have never really eaten at theme parks. At SFNE me and my friend everytime would just get cheese frys and a drink and be fine for the rest of the day. I'm always trying to get as many rides in as I can in one day, not enough time for eating or drinking. Are you allowed to bring your own bottled water into the park? Outside food and beverages are not allowed in the park, except for medical reasons. The park has free tap water, and sells bottled water. Why would you think you could bring in something the park sells? Why not bring in a LaRosa's pizza, too?
BavarianBeatle
We rarely eat at the park either. On weekends we pack or drive up to Frich's. But most of our trips are on weeknights and involve "dashboard dining" on the way to the park. Maybe that belongs in the KI addict thread. Am I allowed to wear my own shirt in the park or must I buy one there because shirts and shoes are required. If tap water is free then why can't I bring in my own in a bottle? I'm not trying to sound like a brat, just my little humble opinion.
IBEW_Sparky
OK, I stand corrected here on one point, and wish to correct two others. iChase brought up the funnel cakes, and my Wife and I do usually get a couple of those on the way out. As far as eating in the lot or leaving "turning our backs on K.I." I beg to differ. I am not turning my back on the park, simply the individual who feels it is proper to sell products at a rediculously high mark-up... or allow those franchises within his park to gouge in similar manner (Subway comes to mind). If gas stations charged $5 a gallon "just becasue they could" the public would be SCREAMING for the Govt to do something about it... its the same process with different merchandise. And thirdly, in relation to water, we have repeatedly walked through security with bottled water and have not once been glanced at nor questioned. In fact, when we asked a member of the security staff at the delay boxes.. I mean metal detectors... whether or not bottled water was allowed, we were told precisely this "As long as the liquid in the bottle is clear and obviously not a soft drink of some variety its fine." The Interpreter
From the park's website: ...Please note that food and drinks MAY NOT be brought into the park... (emphasis in the original) http://www.visitkingsisland.com/visit/visit_tips.cfm I have personally seen many guests told to take their water back to the car. The fact that some security personnel do things differently than others does not change park policy. Also, the park's very high rental prices cause franchisees to have to charge the prices they do in order to make even a reasonable profit. And the park, NOT individual vendors, sets minimum soft drink pricing.
IBEW_Sparky
Excuse the double post but I have to give an LOL at Beatle's post abouty dashboard dining relating to KI addiction. Dont worry, we are far from being in that category and we often do the same thing so breakfast doesnt interfere with our arrival time. KIfan73
More than once during the season last year, I was behind guests that had multiple 20 ounce bottles of pop. Not once did security tell them to not bring them in.
