I actually believe that the Cincinnati Reds (at least used to anyway) allow fans to bring in UNOPENED plastic bottles of pop and water into the ball park. I`m fairly certain this was in effect last year. There is a smaller amount of time when fans are actually at baseball games on any given day (two to three hours) versus the potential ten to twelve hours that guests can be at an amusement park. However, guests at MOST amusement parks during the regular season can leave the park and go out to their cars and re-enter the park (fans at baseball games cannot do so). In short, if amusement parks were to allow guests to bring in unopened pop containers, they would surely loose revenue from selling soft drinks.

Now, the question becomes an economics issue. What is the right price to maximize profit margins? Raise prices too high and you will higher per unit margins, but you will sell less units. If prices are lower, than you will sell more units, but at a lower profit margin. Their is one price in which there is a profit maximization, in which the highest potential profit is being achieved by matching the supply with the demand, depending on the price.

Oh I couldnt agree with you more about not allowing softdrinks in Rob... I find no fault in that whatsoever. Like I said, it doesnt bother me in the slightest to pay to have my Firehawk cup filled... or getting the wristband when I am alone at the park and dont have a non-rider to hold the cup.

If gas stations charged $5 a gallon "just becasue they could" the public would be SCREAMING for the Govt to do something about it... its the same process with different merchandise.

The only reason gas stations didn't charge $5 a gallon just because they could is because they have almost completely collapsed the economy doing it with $4 a gallon (my opinion - we're talking about food prices here, so I won't debate it). Your point is also off a little simply because I don't care whether a certain gas station stays in business as long as some do. There is only one Kings Island to help keep in business, and there are millions upon millions of gas stations.

Eventually, maybe parks will realize that they could sell a million drinks and a ton of food by charging less, but at the moment most of them haven't. Regardless, I still feel that spending the money on the high priced food and merchandise at Kings Island is helping to keep the park in good economic condition. Since, as I pointed out, there is only one Kings Island, I'd rather see them get the money that they earn in profit as opposed to Wal-mart or wherever else I'll inevitably spend that money.

There are some amusement park exceptions to price. Stricker's Grove comes to mind. The food there is not only delicious, but the prices are very reasonable. There are also many other small parks (usually not chains) that don't find it necessary to charge a fortune for food and/or drinks. I don't think I really have to mention a certain Indiana park themed to the holidays. The free, unlimited drinks is not the only perk...the food prices aren't bad either.

I mean the new owners, the same ones who let the long time PR director at Kennywood 'retire,' and then asked that she stay on one more season to help train her somewhat successor (though in reality she is not being replaced) have allowed the domain name for the website to expire. Sloppy at best...or worse. The old site name was:

http://www.lakecompounce.com

Again, they let it expire. Incredibly sloppy. Or worse.

Good. They got it back before some cybersquatter did. That could have been a mess. Look at Cedar Fair and the fact they still don't have kingsisland dot com or ki dot com. Yes, it's a little different, as the park never had either of those, but it's still a mess. Does anyone besides me think the URL they did get causes confusion? When an announcer says visitkingsisland.com, many think (and I have some of them tell me so), the announcer is saying to visit kingsisland.com.

And yet another reason to avoid the high food prices at the park this year: Blue Ash Chili just opened a second location, this one just down Western Row from the park. If you've never been to the original location, they have wonderful double deckers (and the chili's not bad either). We just went to the new location Friday, and I'm sure it'll be the first of many times. Also in this same new plaza is a Donato's and a Penn Station...yummy!
