Guest rcfreak339
CP has no room for a new 200ft coaster unless thee extend some portion of track onto the beach or water....I say they will get a new wooden roller coaster, but not a huge one and not a ground hugging GCII, I say its more like The Kentucky Rumbler at Beech Bend.... The Interpreter
Been to Kennywood? Or a Jersey shore park? Cedar Point has all kinds of room for more coasters....
Zorba
Is any of the current CP landmass fill? It seems like it would be pretty easy to bring fill in behind MF. I know dirt work is expensive, but it is a lot easier to add land when surrounded by water than it is when surrounded by city.
The Interpreter
Ever hear of wetlands regulations?
RailRider
Cedar Point isn't going to start adding fill anytime soon. Eventually the employee housing on the point will be torn down and all employees that live at the point will be in the dorms at the beginning of the causway. Also CP has plenty of parking lot in the front of the park they can expand in to, which are all part of the master plan. There is even planning for the future to only have resort guests park on the point and everyone else parks off site. There would then be light rail and ferry boats to transport guests to the park, so the park can spread in to the entire parking lot, ala Magic Kingdom. These are contingency plans that are more of a what if scenario and by no means set in stone or happening with in the next few years. CP has plenty of room before anything crazy like this happens. Remember nobody thought there was room for Millie and we see how well that went.
Zorba
Is that a problem at CP? Lots of places use fill to create more land, so the process is not unheard of by any means.
The Interpreter
Filling wetlands cannot be done on any substantial basis without the necessary environmental permits. They are not easy to get, to put it mildly. At this point, I'd say funding is a lot more of an issue than is land.
Mikewhy
During the Q&A that was held during Coastermania 2007, Kinzel himself told the crowd in reference to a question that a wood coaster was NOT likely in the near future at Cedar Point Of course, it is certainly possible that they have changed their mind since then based on their experience at other parks with GCII. Also, another person asked Kinzel if he would consider adding a pre-fab woodie like El Toro at Cedar Point. Kinzel grabbed the mic and gave a surprisingly brief, quick and definite answer, which was "NO". I was rather surprised by this, but it did happen. For some reason, he really seemed to be against the pre-fab woodies for some reason, but he did not give us that reason. Again, they can always change their mind... SonofBeast07
Cedar Point has plenty of room! they just need to consolidate and reorganize things. but that takes money. they could always expand to the parking lot, move the lot further outside the park and then have a monorail to and from. which takes money.... you're right, they have no room. PhantomTheater
They have done some fill at CP, they extended the peninsula for light house point. Also, the ever shrinking (man made) lagoon.
Tuskin
Yeah that's exactly the thing I was thinking after I posted that. I was imaging opening day and the line being absolutely horrible. Two of them right next to each other would be pretty awesome. They could have names like Fire and Ice or Lion and Tiger or something along those lines that contrast each other. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Universal Studios Islands of Adventure already have two coasters: One called Ice and the other Fire
UnrealNightmare
You are absolutely correct.^( Dueling Dragons ) Busch Gardens also has a Lion and a Tiger ( Gwazi ). Which I'm sure there is probably more than one ride with those names.
The Interpreter
Not that I am aware of...at least not with those combinations...the parks don't like the voodoo that comes with copying others' unique names, a real grizzly timber terror can follow. Even a guy with a carnival type park down Nashville way found out what happens if you name your park after a valley fair.
Beast1979
Anyone think that this might not be a coaster? I am as skeptical of screamscape as the next person 2 Words: "Screamscape is reporting a rumor from a source that Kings Island may see a large steel coaster for the 2009 season, running out in the woods near The Beast." Home Run. I personally think CP really needs a really good log flume. God how many water rides do you need? I think I saw like, 3 of them in 2008. They even removed a water ride to make place for Maverick! My other choice would be a new wood coaster, maybe a hyper with a loop NO. CP has no room for a new 200ft coaster unless thee extend some portion of track onto the beach or water....I say they will get a new wooden roller coaster, but not a huge one and not a ground hugging GCII, I say its more like The Kentucky Rumbler at Beech Bend.... They have tons of room. And by ground hugging I assume you mean something like Prowler, correct? During the Q&A that was held during Coastermania 2007, Kinzel himself told the crowd in reference to a question that a wood coaster was NOT likely in the near future at Cedar Point Of course, it is certainly possible that they have changed their mind since then based on their experience at other parks with GCII. Not so much that they changed their minds, but they changed their plans. It's been nearly 2 years since Coastermania 2007, and 3 years whenever this thing is opens. You don't think in all that time, the plans set down in 2007 changed? Or maybe even, the economy changed? In June 2007 we weren't in a deep, long, hard, horrible recession. you're right, they have no room. Maverick, Top Thrill Dragster, Millennium Force, Wicked Twister? All of them people said (Just like what is being said here!) Cedar Point has no room they can't do it.
74Gibson
To add to the debate about a woodie, CP was doing a considerable ammount of retracking on Meanstreak. I imagine that will be the woodie for the area. They're obviously trying to beef up the back of the park so I would see them adding something more unique to the area, drawing different types of people. There has been a lot of hype on CP blogs about a water ride. I'm still hoping for a B&M looper or that new design that I haven't seen talked about in awhile. I agree that CP is not going to run out of space for all the reasons above. Even the space they;re clearing is pretty large, look at it with Google Earth. They could spread across the lagoon to another wooded are to the west or even into MF's helixes. I just wonder about Snake River Falls. Don;t care either way just curiouys if it will stay. I think it is much easier to fit a 200ft steel coaster in a tight space than a wood coaster. Steel can be built over existing areas a lot easier because they need fewer supports, just look at DB. Woodies however pretty much completely cover everything in their area. I'm sure someone can point out a wood coaster that overlaps another attraction somewhere but its not common. My dream wood coaster would take the place currently occupied by Diasaster Transport. If we see anything from B&M at CP I'd hope it was a new flyer not a floorless. A dive machine would fit nicely in the area in question but I'm not really a fan... I like the dueling zacspin idea too but I think those would fit better over by Wiked Twister. Beast1979
^Why is the Log Flume Ride idea so popular? Anyone think that this might not be a coaster? Actually Screamscape began posting the rumors long before the FD article, which they used as beef to back it up. If we see anything from B&M at CP I'd hope it was a new flyer not a floorless. A dive machine would fit nicely in the area in question but I'm not really a fan... I like the dueling zacspin idea too but I think those would fit better over by Wiked Twister. The Interpreter
...I'd like to point out that B&M's cost 3-4 times as much as any GCII would..... Really? I think you underestimate how much a GCII can cost... Terminator Salvation is running around $10 million. Troy was 6.5 million Euros=nearly $9 million. Even the relatively small Prowler is $8 million. None of those are even as little as 1/3 the cost of Diamondback, which is one of the more expensive B and M's...Hydra, The Revenge at Dorney was only $13 million. More recently, Patriot was $14 million.

Key word in that statement was like. I think it would be cool to have two of those coasters, each with a name the contrasts the other like the examples I provided. I'm a roller coaster enthusiast, of course I know those coasters.

tigellinus
^^I thought that was Mean Streak's official nickname?? Either that, or The Chiropractor!! As a quick aside, last year at CP on Maverick the lead train got stopped a little ways up the lift due to an op spotting a camera…the delay was somewhat lengthy, and people were getting agitated and coming up with “punishments” for this rogue rider. Being in the following train, of course Tiggy’s “Make him ride Mean Streak!!” Got the biggest laughs, even by the ride ops!!

74Gibson
Check out Terpy's thread on El Toro Germany. It is a perfect example of why CP will always have room for a new coaster. I love the Shake N Bake idea. As for Meanstreak, I'm really anxious to see what has been done with the re'treacking and if it really helps. As a whole I think the ride concept sucked from the begining but it may be fun without all the trims and if it were more smooth. I should say never get hurt by it and ride it almost everytime I go (my friend should thank me at this point). Just lean forward a bit...works like a charm

fcbaseball
Has anyone heard how extensive the "retracking" actually was? I believe it was said that this is just annual maintenance here. If this is the case, I would say to not expect much after the first month or so of running the ride.
74Gibson
It looked like and conversations seemed to be pointing to it being more than annual maintanence. I saw a couple pics awhile back and one had a fairly long section of track replaced. I've been trying to find it in old CP forums but I havn't been able to.
