UnrealNightmare
Did you have another bad day today? Cuz it seems like you're trying to pick a fight with me. So I'm just going to remove myself from this convo since I have no idea what I am talking about.
AintNutinElse2Do
You can add me to the list of SOB fans, not including night time rides I definitely without a doubt give it the edge over his father. Many people I work with and various other friends also love the ride, all of those people considered "general public." Yes, I would prefer to say Thunderhead over SOB but the sheer size and speed of SOB is what makes it what it is. Besides if ya think it's rough, have you ever rode the Georgia Cyclone. I love the Cyclone but boy can it be rough, I still appreciate it. There's still room to expand at Kings Island even if you don't like a ride, why would you want it gone? I don't like the kiddy rides but I don't wanna rip them out of the hands of the kids. I say addition by addition is almost always better than addition by means of subtraction. Until SOB sitting there keeps KI from getting something great (it didn't do that this year) til then let it stay, let people enjoy, and appreciate it for the landmark it created. skaterboy22101
It's not like Cedar Fair is planning on putting anything in its place right now. Careful, you have no idea what your talking about there....... Beast197, come on. Why would they tear out a 22 million doller coaster that is only 9 years old? Remember, it is the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in the world. I highly doubt they will tear that down anytime soon. Just remember, just because you don't like it doesn't mean other people don't.

HTCO
I would like to see SOB removed! Amen to that! The only kinda rideable seat on SOB is the front, and thats pushing it.

It costs more to keep it then it does to leave it there. It's the Tallest and Fastest wooden coaster in the world? So? It WAS the only one with a loop, but that wasn't stopping them. skaterboy22101
Oh yeah? TTD has to many roll backs so lets go ahead and take that out. The Beast is old so lets go ahead and take that out. Diamondback had to be evucated so lets go ahead and take that out. It is bascially the same thing.
Phantom Theater
I see more than 10 people in line for SoB everyday the park is open. Angrybeaver himself said he waited over an hour and a half to ride it. If people really didn't like it that much then why wait over and hour and a half to ride something you don't like? Please don't make me say it again. Waits have NOTHING to do with popularity. Get over it. Yeah, Beast Man and I waited an hour last Saturday. I didn't hear that many complaints coming off either, a lot of people were cheering. You sure you weren't riding with other thoosies, correct? Because when I ride it I hear mostly "Owws!" and "What was that?" and "Good thing you didn't ride that dad!" Well I actually hope Sonny is here to stay as long as his father. :Runs for the door to ride Son of Beast: To Ride Son of Beast? Or to Run from the tomatoes? Jackson, who couldn't help it. Dude, what is your problem with Son of Beast? So what if its rough, as long as people have a amazing time on the ride, with or without roughness,is all that matters.I personally LOVE the ride, but I do find myself saying "ow my head" and things like that, but I still had an awesome time on it.Get over the roughness. And you do? Cause you sure are acting like it. I'm not saying I do either. I'm saying he doesn't know so he shouldn't say "It's not like their planing to get rid of it." skaterboy22101
If you don't like it, good for you. If you do like it, thats great. It's all up to the person. It's a great addition no matter what you think of it.

KIBOB
Whoa! I think that we are getting way off topic. Instead of getting under each others skin, why dont we just say the things that we think could be improved on the coaster? Come on guys, if you dont like the ride, then that is fine, but you could put in some input as to how the ride could change to where you would enjoy it more. On a side note, does anyone know how many times SoB was retracked? I am not sure, I just know that they retracked the ride after the 06 incident. This was required in the rose bowl, however i think that the main reason why the rest of the ride was retracked was to modify the tracks since they no longer had to be specialy made to allow for the extra train wheels which made the loop possible. Does anyone else know?
Beast Man
I really like the drops and layout of SOB(and how appropriate initials). On busy days the bottom queues are filled to capacity and then some. But yeah it's not for everyone.Sometimes when I ride I feel fine when I'm exiting. And other times my chest is hurting from being jackhammered.Just a few weeks ago the kids behind me were saying "This is awesome!"It is a good ride when it's not being tempermental. And many times I do prefer to ride up front to avoid being jackhammered. It would be a much better ride if they could figure a way to cut down on the jackhammering. paperg
There was a reply awhile back, someone saying they stood in line for an hour & half to ride the SOB & the other person said standing in line for that long doesn't mean popularity. If people don't like the ride, they sure aren't gonna stand in line for an hour for it. So people who will wait for an hour or so must like it. Saying that, everytime I've ridden it this season, I've had to wait at least an hour each time. People have their own opinion on rides. If you don't like a ride, don't ride it & don't slam it cause other people do like it... Get it... Got it... GOOD!!!
KIfan1980
People need to relax and respect each others opinions a little here. SoB is a ride that MANY people enjoy - as many people as enjoy Beast or Diamondback, NO, as many as was hoped for when it was installed, NO, but enough that it is an integral part of the Kings Island experience to have thousands of riders on it every day, YES. If you don't like the ride, as someone else said, offer some constructive criticism but don't trash those that do. Me, I enjoy it a lot (more than rides like AE, BLSC, Invertigo, but not as much as DB, Beast, Flight Deck, Racer). Could it be improved, I believe it could. It feels like there is more side to side movement of the cars on the tracks than on other woodies I've ridden (may not be a fact, just feels that way) - if this could be reduced I think the benefits (speed, lateral forces) that I love would be improved with less back busting impact. Beast1979
For the record, I was not trying to bash any of the people on here. Granted, at times I might have gotten a little out of line, but I ment nothing bad on anyone. Don't worry, I still like all of you here, despite your views. I like the idea someone said earlier about having some constructive critism on the ride. Now that I look at it, I don't think Son of Beast is a total loss. It would require a LOT of work, but I could see it becoming a fun ride. The bottom of the Rose Bowl needs some help, and the mid course needs to seriously be let up on, and perhaps the removal of the seatbelts (Which I beleive qualifies it for an ACE coaster classic) and a 3rd train, and th Son of Beast could be great. SonofBeast07
Son of Beast has a pretty solid future in front of it at this point. They will probly retrack it like they did The Beast, but little by little. The ride is rough, but for a non pre-fab hyper woodie it's pretty darn smooth. The ride is a fairly popular one with high uptime and a hand full of world records....tallest, fastest, 2nd tallest hill, 2nd longest... If they still have Mean Streak at Cedar Point then SOB has a long way to go before it is Cedar Fair removal material. I'm sorry for all the SOB haters I might have disappointed there. If Cedar Fair didn't like it or want it then they would have let it be after they bought the parks when they originally had no investment in the ride. This is like one of those Mac vs. PC debates. It is really pointless because some people love SOB and some hate it, but it will be here regardless. It's all about your preference. Some people like it a little rough and others don't like a ride to get so personal with them. I really think it is starting to find its niche here for once. The Interpreter
It's not correct to say Cedar Fair had no investment in Son of Beast when they bought the parks. They not only had paid for the ride, but also would be on the hook for any removal, operation, maintenance, rehabilitation or liability costs. They were and are very much invested in Son of Beast... What I mean is that they had no major investment in it. Paramount lost a lot of money over the ride while Cedar Fair kind of came in with a clean slate. The Interpreter
But they DID have a major investment in it. When Cedar Fair bought the Paramount Parks, they spent $1.24 billion. I can assure you that no small sum of that was allocated to Son of Beast...
standbyme
Do I like Son of Beast? No. Do I want them to tear it down? No. Even if it were closed I wouldn't want it tore down...it is an amazing structure just to look at. And to specifically answer the topics original question "Has anyone else noticed that SOB seems to be losing popularity?"...I can honestly say that it is JUST as popular with me today as the first time I rode it! goofywdw
How much does it cost to completely tear down a wooden coaster anyway? Do you really think in these times after spending 22 million on a new B&M that they want to spend the money to completely take away a coaster that a lot of the GP enjoy. Why would you consider tearing down a coaster while you are an amusement park trying to compete against other parks competing ifor who has the most coasters. SOB is a very popular and amazing ride no matter what any of you say. I read some RWW PTRs saying "Oh what an amazing structure". Yeah some of you might say that it would cost more to "fix" the ride than to tear it down. What you say and what the park management say are two incredibly different things backed up by two different experiences. We can't sit here and act like we know what we are saying about what the park will do with this ride. Why not go have fun on the other 80 rides and shows KI has to offer with smaller lines because there is a handful of people over on the other side of the park waiting to ride the one coaster you refuse to ride. Be grateful for what you have and respect what everyone else has to say.
The Interpreter
80 other rides and shows? Much less 80 other rides and shows with smaller lines! Care to list them? Terpy, who knows Kings Island does NOT have 80 rides and shows...
