hmmm I'd venture to say that if Firehawk is broken down SOB might have the longest line on some days as far as wait time. DB is usually only 45min wait since it is a capacity monster. SOB really needs a 3rd train. It could have a similar block structure to DB.

.... so yes, there may very well be 80 rides, shows, and attractions with shorter lines

however i think that the main reason why the rest of the ride was retracked was to modify the tracks since they no longer had to be specialy made to allow for the extra train wheels which made the loop possible. Does anyone else know?

If Im not mistaken taking out the loop let them switch from the premier trains to the lighter G-Trains we have now. Of course I could be wrong....

^You are not mistaken. That is, if I'm not mistaken.

None of you are mistaken. They did take out the loop to use lighter trains, but in doing that they modified the track so that it would fit better with the new trains, since the new trains do not have the special wheels to take them through loops. I hope i cleared that up ;)

I'm going to poke my head in here in this little convo... Obviously I'm a fan of Son of Beast, however, I can see people the reason for people's complaints. Yes it is rough... Sometimes I even say oww. I look at it this way though; there are so many different tastes out there, that it really shouldn't matter who likes the ride. Some people don't like DB because it is too tall, some people don't like AE because the theming doesn't work anymore, and some don't like Invertigo because it goes backwards.

There are many reasons for people not to like a ride. Even if a line doesn't constitute popularity, there are still people lining up to experience the ride. Before the accident, I rode SoB 14 times in a row on a Saturday. There was never a line, and never cheering in the station from the riders. (Even the preteen girls weren't screaming then).

Does it need a little bit of work yes... The rosebowl needs a tunnel as a tribute to daddy as well as a bit of retracking and perhaps... Gasp a trim. Also, the midcourse could then be turned down a bit. While this would be nice it is ok without it (Minus the rosebowl retracking, it needs done reguardless).

First of all, I just watched Captain Nemo's video....and I almost peed my pants. IT'S A WOODEN HYPERCOASTER! Hahahahahahaha!! Wow, that seriously made my night.

Second, you guys should quit attacking each other over this! Everyone has their own opinions...isn't that the point of a forum? Just because certain people don't like a ride doesn't mean that it should be torn/burnt down..lol. I'm sure some people hate Diamondback(but those people are just crazy!), and you wouldn't want that torn down. I have heard a lot of the GP say that The Beast is as rough if not ROUGHER than Son of Beast, so should we destroy that too? Should we tear down the Carousel because it makes some people throw up? Should we cancel Halloween Haunt because it gives people panic attacks & asthma attacks? If you don't like it, then don't ride it. If nobody liked it then there would never be people waiting in line to get on it. And yes, I know, a long line does not mean a ride is popular. But a consistent line of people on any given day means SOMEBODY is riding it, right?! And it's probably me, because I LOVE that ride! I come off of Firehawk and Vortex a lot more beat up than when I come off SoB. I bash my head on the OTSR on Vortex almost every single time, no matter what seat I'm in, but I still love it and I definitely don't want it torn down! So seriously, people, if you don't like it, fine. Just don't criticize the people that do, and quit saying it needs to be burnt down! That's the great thing about KI...there is something for everyone there. If somebody is busy riding Son of Beast then that means that's one less person in line for Diamondback! :D

Just to add another opinion... I rode it for the first time during RWW and have absolutely no desire to ride it again! I do however think it is an absolutely amazing structure and a huge asset to the park. It's not my thing but I can certainly understand that people have different tastes than I do and am glad that they enjoy riding it.

I'm still laughing at your vid Nemo. Thanks!

Oy, just what we need... another topic on SoB's popularity. How many times do we need to hear the same argument? "Tear it down, I say!" "I love the ride, so get lost!" "Let's burn it and roast hot dogs!" "Everytime I ride it it has a line so it must be popular." "Just because it has a line doesn't mean it's popular." "Everytime I ride it people are cheering." "Yeah, well everytime I ride it people are holding themselves saying 'Ow'." Have I sufficiently summed up every topic we've ever had on this subject???

I never throw my hat into this argument, but here goes. Do I love the ride? No. Do I mildly enjoy it? Sure, I'll ride it from time to time. I find it's a better ride at night, when the track has cooled down a bit. One associate ride night years ago, I even managed 5 straight rides... IN THE BACK OF THE TRAIN!!! And I wasn't even bruised. I think it was better with the loop, and with the opportunity to not sit above the wheels.

Enough people must be riding it to justify the expense of keeping it open. Otherwise, CF most likely would have closed it by now. And like Ashers said, if you don't like it, the fact that it's open and has people waiting in it's line means there are potentially less people waiting in line for a ride that you do like.

I do not wish for any ride to be torn down, burnt down, smashed to bits or blown to high heaven. Even if I don't like it. Mean Streak is the only coaster I've ever ridden that I've said "Never again" (and I didn't even say that for Manhattan Express). My last trip to CP I broke my word because the person I was with had never ridden it. My stance was quickly reaffirmed. But I still don't wish it any harm. There are people who do like it, why deny them of their joy?

Even the two parks that I've visited that I pretty much absolutely despise, Lesourdsville Lake and SFKK, I wish no ill on. I just hope that a new owner/management team can step in and turn them into places I would want to visit again. One of the few bright spots of my trip to LL was Screechin' Eagle. I'm glad I went, just for the chance to ride that coaster. But the future doesn't look bright for that one.

Amusement park history is littered with coasters that are gone before their time (or at least gone before I've had a chance to ride them and form my own opinion of them). Growing up, Mrs. Gator basically had two home parks, Idora Park and Conneaut Lake. We all know what happened to Idora. I had never heard of the park until I met her, and now I really wish I could go back in time to ride Jack Rabbit and Wildcat after hearing her tell of them. At least this summer it looks like I can take her back to Conneaut Lake (it'll be the first time I'll have been), even if Blue Streak won't be open. I never got the chance to ride Big Dipper and Raging Wolf Bobs at GL, and wish I had.

Appreciate the fact that it still exists and is thrilling riders, even if you're not one of the riders it thrills. That's why I'm really looking forward to riding Leap the Dips this summer. It sat for years in disrepair, and I appreciate all the hard work that went into restoring it so that I and millions of others can enjoy it like the generations that have gone before.

Sorry for the long post, but I had to get it out there. Believe it or not, there's probably a kid out there, whether they're in California drooling over their computer screen at rcdb.com, or in Ohio visiting KI every weekend, who longs to ride SoB. And there are plenty of people of proper height who still want to ride it. Why deny them?

Me? You'll see me in SoB's line a couple times a year... as long as the line's not too long.

And btw, great video Captain Nemo! Loved it!

I will never ride Son of Beast again. I am a taller than average person and being jackhammered and beat up on the ride is too much for me. I used to really love going on the loop since it was just so different. Now with the loop gone and the crappy trains I will gladly refuse to ride Son of Beast.

I still see plenty of people in line when I am at KI. If you don't like SOB, then don't ride. I'll gladly walk up and get right on in the very back seat while everyone else is in line for Diamondback. Get rid of the no re-ride policy, and I'll be completely happy over there. Turn off the mid-course trim brake, better still.

I think that post deserves a slow clap! :D And yes, I think you summed it up with your first paragraph. Very well said! I'm with you...I would never wish any harm on ANY coaster. I may have said it jokingly about BLSC, but really, I love that ride too. I love all coasters. And maybe this doesn't apply with the SoB argument since people seem to think it hurts or whatever, but sometimes you guys have to remember that not too long ago people didn't have roller coasters to get their adrenaline pumping. Take Flight Deck or AE for example...a lot of people say they are boring/too shorts/etc, but if they would really step back and think that if those were the ONLY roller coasters KI had, they wouldn't be saying those things about them. You guys need to remember what we ride these rides for. You can't just get in your car or sit at your desk at school or work and fly through the air, pulling G's, going around twists and turns and scream at the top of your lungs. Well, if you have a good imagination you can...but seriously. Think how boring your lives would be if every coaster that everyone had a complaint about got torn down! *shudders* We sure wouldn't have all these weirdos converging on one website every day, that's for sure...lol!

i daresay Manhatten express could be the lamest coaster ive been on ever, not counting kiddie ones (and while I love coasters, i'm not a hardcore ethusiast like some on this site)..and to think that MGM (the co that owns NY NY not the casino by the same name or movie studio!) charges 15 bucks to ride it..lol! Son of Beast is still rough but nearly as much as it was before and it's still a ride with a lot of legs imo.

Wow this topic again? Can we just take this topic along with trims, footers vs footings, and Vortex is being removed as is Top Gun being removed, lock them in a crate and burry the crate and never speak of them again?

I know I am asking for way too much.

Who is up for a good footings vs footers debate?

Good point. Let's not forget to complain about name changes and lack of theming in the Crypt!

Longlive... I got a great laugh out of Son of Smurf! Thanks. I needed that.

Glad there was never any talk like this for the Smurf Ride. It always gave a smooth ride. I'd dare say it was B&M-smooth. It was like the original Diamondback. Just had a smaller hill. Need to build an SOS "Son of Smurf"!
There was never any talk like this for the Smurf ride because someone who shall remain nameless to comply with the no politics section of the TOS hadn't invented the internets yet. It was B&M smooth, but that belt taking you up the hill could be a little jerky once in a while.

There's still a small faction of us that are still smarting from the fact that the park chose to take out our beloved HB Enchanted Voyage to put in those little blue menaces. Bring back Gulliver! Bring back the Banana Splits! Bring back Squiddly Diddly and Winnie the Winsome Witch! Bring back the Hillbilly Bears! (ok, maybe not them...) And the snail... bring back Mr. Snail! Bring back all those happy friends who live in my TV!

Have a HAP-py day!

I enjoy SOB, but I have a bad lower back, it hurts when I ride it. It don't think it should be torn down, it graces the skyline nicely, and it can be an fun at times.

P.S. When you say A. Hopkins singing "come on get happy." I can just see Hannibal Lecter in his face guard dancing around. Wow my mind is somewhere else tonight.
