this week i am going to KI for the first time. I was wondering if i should purchase the backyard bbq deal tix (13 bucks per meal) or should i skip out for some other joint in the park. what are the prices like (dollar amount) for places such as chik-fil-a, potato works, larosas pizza, panda express, etc. thanks for your help!

That's a pretty heavy meal for a thrill park. I would eat light snacks throughout the day. Loaded fries here, slice of pizza there.

It's not a bad deal for what you get, but personally I like to eat light, especially at the park.

I have not been to the Backyard BBQ but have heard that the food is not cooked outside. For example, I have heard that they serve those steamed hamburgers which I have tasted and are terrible.

I suggest that you go to Outer Hanks for the best deals. For example, for $9.99 you can get a half a slab of ribs and fries which they just pile into your basket. They were delicious too. Outer Hanks also has good seafood.

Skyline is not a bad deal either for park food prices. You can get a big plate of chili and spaghetti for just over $6.

I also love Potato Works which has been at the park since it opened in 1972- everyone brags about CP's Boardwalk fries but the Potato Works fries cannot be beat. They also have other nice goodies to nibble on such as chicken bites and shrimp. The price of fries may seem high at $5.99 but you get a huge amount for the price.

I used to love to go to LaRosa's when I went to KI but the quality has really gone down there over the years. Their slices literally have declined in size by half while the prices have gone up. ( $6.17 for two slices. ) And for some reason, their idea of a slice of pepperoni pizza is maybe 2 pieces of pepperoni per slice-it used to be that they would pile on the pepperoni.

Also, I tried the buffet next to Diamondback and the quality of the food was way below the outrageous price of $16.95.

Once place KI hasn't gone downhill is dessert. I still think their soft serve ice cream cannot be beat. It is $3.74 for a cone, a little pricy but not horrible.

One of the biggest problems I have at Kings Island is limiting quantity of the food I consume. A small part of me keeps saying you spent X dollars for that, you should eat it. Sigh.

Oddly, I find the Backyard BBQ to be a comparative bargain. *I* get to control the quantity of food (if not the quality). The desserts include real ice cream sandwiches with real ice cream and real chocolate wafers. If one isn't easily embarrassed (and I am not), one can make a tasty salad by using the lettuce and tomatoes on the bar with some pickles, onions and honey mustard (the latter intended for the chicken fingers they serve...which, when I have been there, are cold and tough). There is also, I believe still in effect, a discount for gold and platinum pass holders. The Backyard BBQ is served later in the day, in mid-afternoon. It's also a good opportunity to visit Kings Island's company/private picnic area, if you have not been there before.

I do not drink soda, and haven't for years, yet still find the Backyard BBQ to be a better deal than most of the food in the park. I do agree that Skyline and Outer Hanks are probably the best "bargains" in the park, IF you avoid fries ($3.59) and sodas ($3.59 and up). The entrees at Outer Hanks mostly include fries, and you get a huge quantity of them (sigh), but they are quite tasty.

Parks LOVE people who do this. If you total up what you spend over the day, I bet you'd be amazed. A couple hundred nickels here, a couple of hundred nickels there...
