RailRider Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Popular Mechanics look at 5 theme park attractions that pushed the level of common sense. Some where a great success, others not so much. Quote
Brandon Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Alpine Slide's aren't that bad, I rode one in Colorado. If people get injured it's because they're being foolish and fall off. If they hold on you won't fall off. I would never do that 2nd thing though. Quote
TopThrill Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I to have been on an Alpine Slide, back in '99 or 2000 at the Smoky Mountains. As long as you know what your doing you won't fall off. And that water slide with a loop is sick! Quote
rotag Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 ive personally tried #5 it aint bad. you controll the speed and if you go to fast you will fly off. ive came really close to flying off. Quote
rotag Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 #1 needs rework, the loop is to wrong, didnt the loops from the 1800's coasters teach them anthing. Quote
CedarPointer Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Loops don't work on 1. Wooden Coasters 2. Waterslides Quote
74Gibson Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Google Action Park if you doubt the danger or regularity of injuries... or if you just want to see and excellent example of poor management. Quote
CedarPointer Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I love some of the quotes on its Wikipedia page. The "space shot" attraction was fairly safe. It was a tower drop up and down ride, common in many amusement parks today. This attraction was open in 1996 and again in 1998 (under Mountain Creek management). It was sold at the end of the 1998 season. Quote
rotag Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 the time i did that they made you fill out a waiver in order to ride at the alpine slide in cave city, ky. Quote
coaster_junky Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Loops don't work on 1. Wooden Coasters i'm pretty sure the loop worked fine on Son of Beast. Quote
CedarPointer Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Then why isn't it there? Obviously, it didn't work out well. Quote
coaster_junky Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 it had nothing to do with the fact that it didn't work, they removed it because it was required by the state so they could use lighter trains. Quote
Dvo Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 It's amazing that these things are built in the first place, but it amazes me even more that people are willing to ride them. Especially the trebuchet and the water slide. I just want to smack my forehead. And the kid that died on the trebuchet went to Oxford! .... sigh. Quote
TTD-120-420 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I would probably try all of them to just say I'v done it. Call me stupid, thats fine I'm used to it. Quote
violakat03 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 ^ honestly... I could probably say the same. I'll try a lot of things at least once. Quote
HTCO Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I'll do.. anything there but that trebuchet thing. That thing looks like... a guaranteed injury or death. Quote
Beast79 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 There is a working looping water slide in Germany just check youtube! I rode a Alpine slide ride in the Smokie Mountains with my little beasties back in May and we all loved it. Quote

RailRider Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 Yeah I cant believe the Human Trebuchet. When I was watching the video my mouth was on my desk. I am shocked that a SCAD Dive didn't make the list, now that is one crazy ride. The video is of Terminal Velocity Quote
Fear the Four Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 The Alpine slide looks dangerous but I would still try and I would try the rest of them. Quote
