RailRider
Short article regarding the popularity of Diamondback and the records it might break. I think KI has a hit on their hands.WHIO.com
Diamondback FOF
I heard a story about this on WLWT last night.
Fear the Four
Diamondback will easily beat Vortex's record. They almost have a million riders and It's July. I think it will reach the three million mark by the end of Haunt.
skaterboy22101
it's been 2 1/2 months, and they still don't have a million? Jeesh.
flightoffear1996
Dude that is great. The uptime must be like 90% or better!!!! How long did it take TTD to reach 1 million in a year. 4 years maybe 5. I cant remeber! Way to go KI staff!
skaterboy22101
I don't see it getting 2 million this year. EDIT: Nevermind. KI is open ALL of Augest(except for one private day, which I will be attending!!!) And the park is only closed 2 weeks to get ready for the Haunt. DeLorean Rider
Diamondback will easily beat Vortex's record. They almost have a million riders and It's July. I think it will reach the three million mark by the end of Haunt. King's Island barely gets 3 million people through the gates yearly, do you think every single one of them is going to ride Diamondback? Now the interesting thing is whether they're counting each person once, or counting each person every time they ride. Personally I don't think it's right to count every person that's ridden it 100 times to be considered 100 riders. Now the article says that according to Don Helbig, the ride averages 1600 riders in an hour, which means 50 full trains an hour, lol. Realistically Diamondback averages about 38 trains an hour. Honestly what I would like to know is whether they're even looking at the rides recorded capacity or if they just multiplied 1600 by the number of hours the park has been open this year. Lets do some math: After reading over the park calendar, starting on July 9th, adding a half hour for gold pass riding in the morning, and a half hour every night after the park closes, assuming no downtime at all for the rest of the year; Diamondback should be open for approximately 882 more hours this year. Assuming they hit 38 trains every hour, filling all 32 seats every train, sending no empty trains; Diamondback will have the potential to send 1,072,512 more riders through it's circuit. If all those parameters are met, no empty trains, no down time, etc. Diamondback should give just under 2 million rides this year. Now to say that Diamondback "will see 2 million riders this year," the way that the article says it, is not true. Every time someone rides it an additional time, they will subtract form the "potential riders Diamondback will see." On a side note, Pirates of the Caribbean set the record for the most rides given in a month on any Disney attraction in July of 2007. Pirates gave a massive 3.7 MILLION! rides in that month alone. Can anyone guess what ride the previous record holder was?
Gabe
If you noticed, the articles, as well as the DB blog itself, mentions that the coaster has given close to 1M RIDES, not RIDERS. Given that distinction, it is entirely possible for the coaster to give 2M plus rides by the time the season ends on oct 31.

Given that distinction, it is entirely possible for the coaster to give 2M plus rides by the time the season ends on oct 31. The blog yes but the article clearly states: The brand new Diamondback roller coaster has already seen 800,000 riders since opening earlier this year, putting it on pace to become the most popular debut ride in the park's history. Regardless, did you read the math I gave? It was NOT about how many different riders it would see, it was how many rides Diamondback has the potential to give. As it stands, if everything goes absolutely flawlessly by the end of the year it might barely reach 2 million. Personally I think not. Of course, who's really going to question the blog if they say that they hit 2 million.

I don't question the math, but you're right about the blog..if Helbig says the coaster gave 2M rides, you'd have to ask him how they calculated that..by hourly rider counts? Not sure he'd tell you but if we have a KIC day, I propose that we ask him the question during the Q and A
BoddaH1994
To clarify, the 800,000 riders on Diamondback is calculated by how many trains pass with open seats. For each open seat, a "rider" is deducted. Some of the 800,000 are repeat riders, but Diamondback has given 800,000+ rides.

Gabe
well regardless of rider counts, all CF cares about is whether the ride increased park attendance, in park sales, or season pass sales..i know in years past in the 'coaster wars' bigger and taller didnt always translate into bigger gate, but if in fact DB can give 2M rides this season, that would be an amazing feat for the park, considering Vortex's debut was the last to achieve numbers even close to that. I'll be interested to hear what the attendance was once the season ends. Regardless of what you think of CF, they have given KI 2 coasters in 3 years of owning the park, which in my mind anyway, is great.

KIfan73
I am impressed with the "Diamondback Pavillion" as much as I am with the ride itself. I found our group spending a lot of time there this week. With the gift shop, umbrella tables, and food stand, it's sort of become a new area of the park unto itself.
