Where did the Thrill go?

...For the record, has anyone else ridden the rotating swing ride in the Coney Mall area at any point and felt a "wow, I could totally die if the chains failed" feeling? Whenever I'm on that ride, I can't help constantly plotting my potential downwards and outwards trajectory in the event of a chain failure. Maybe I'm just weird.

I can say that in literally hundreds of such rides in dozens of parks, I have never had that thought. Now, I know next time I will. And I will know who to "thank." :)

Fortunately, I know that it is HIGHLY unlikely that both chains would fail.

Terpy, who won't add other things! :)

Well, we found another ride that gave me that WOW feeling. El Toro at SFGadv left me breathless at the end of every lap we did. The air on this ride is the most forceful that I have ever felt. I am a pretty big guy and had to be stapled in tight to get a green light. With this I figured that I would not get air, boy was I wrong.

At least now I know that I will have 2 rides that will always deliver the thrill.

Yes. I have thought about what if the chains brake. I always hope I'd land on the grass and not the concrete or blacktop. But, I don't plot my possible trajectory.

Don't forget about the steel cable that is used as a back-up in case a chain brakes.

I know what you are saying. After ridding DB, The Beast just does not give me the thrill it used to. I am very sad by this. :(

I know what you mean, before last year, the biggest coaster in the park i could stomach was The Racer. Now, after riding DB and riding it over and over, a ride on The Beast, or even Vortex wont even give me the slightest "stomach in the throat" sensation. It is just speed, and air flying by me. However, Invertigo still seems to give me a slight bit of that sensation "facing forwards first".

Coasters that still thrill me - Diamondback, Firehawk, The Beast (Not nearly as much as it used to, though.), Son of Beast, Vortex, Invertigo, Red Racer, Maverick, Millennium Force, Magnum, Dragster, Greezed Lightnin', Thunder Run, The Voyage, The Legend, and The Raven.

One coaster that used to thrill me that I still miss to this day was King Cobra. I wanna go to Canada's Wonderland and ride SkyRider SO badly.

Flat rides that still thrill me - Slingshot, Skyhawk, Drop Tower, Liberty Launch, and pick a tilt-a-whirl (I LOVE LATS!).

On a side note, some of the best rides I've ever had are the ones in which I was scared at least just a little bit just before the first time I rode the ride. Ask anyone I was with during the first night of CoasterMania! this year and they'll COMPLETELY agree with me that I was scared out of my own skin of Maverick's first drop. That fear was turned into an adrenaline rush when the drop was over. On its final brake run, I decided that Maverick was my #1 steel coaster at the time. Fear (to me at least) is an integral part of a ride actually being thrilling.

Another side note - Dave, I realize that some rides are better than others and some might not thrill you now, but just wait until Opening Day next year. I can't even begin to tell you how much I wanted to ride a roller coaster over the offseason.

Millenium Force has yet to lose any thrill to me after riding it nearly for 10 years now, to tell you the truth, the only ones that lose the thrill for me are one's at Kings Island, because that is the big park closest to me and I frequent it so often, that it can't have the same thrill as riding a ride that you don't get the chance to ride as often, I think even a ride like the Tornado at Stricker's Grove has more of a thrill than The Beast does, simply because I only get a chance to ride it 3 times a year, well 4 this year, I rarely ride TTD, maybe once a year, I just can't stand to wait that long for a 25 second ride, often thrill for me has to do with where it is, not what it is, Cedar Point has a great thrill always no matter what I ride, because it is vacation, I'm not going back to work tomorrow and I'm up on the lake. There is always a thrill riding a ride that I used to ride when I was little, what few still exist, and Kings Island very little tops riding the log flume, because it's just about the only ride that I can ride at KI, that I used to ride with my parents and sister as a little kid, that always gives me a thrill, Sentimental fool I am!

Actually of all the wild rides I have ridden, one of the rides that freaks me out the most is the swings, when they are on chains, chains always kinda bothered me, especially when you have those punks behind you that want to bump into you

I always think about falling out on the swings but I always ride it. Everytime I pass one of those rocks I feel relief.

Does Top Thrill really not thrill you waiting to go out at 120mph? Really? I can't say the same. I'm sooo scared!

MF really isn't that thrilling to me. It's so calming and relaxing. I just LOVE it. Floating up at the top of those hills is just perfect.

Maverick does thrill me mainly because I'm scared for head banging (lmao, it's my favorite coaster though) but getting airtime on some of those corkscrews (I got some) is just amazing. And a launch? P E R F E C T.

Beast does not thrill me, I like it though. Diamondback does a little bit. Voyage and Raptor also do.

I am adding Apollo's Chariot. Best ride I have ever been on. Love it.

Gosh! Not again! On your profile it's lower than Millennium Force which you called boring. I will never understand this! Not trying to give you a hard time, just something I keep noticing.

Yeah ... I think about that also.

You know what ride seriously scared the heck out of me though? Condor at Six Flags Great America. I really wanted to ride it but once I did, it scared me a lot. I was holding on with white knuckles and eventually just closed my eyes. Something about the fact the car I was in was held in with two small metal pieces (similar to a Flying Bobs car), the cars tipped outward so you were kinda looking at the ground, and we were WAY up in the air scared the heck out of me.

Having ridden the world's first coaster over 400 feet, 8 times in a row, at 7:00 in the morning, you can imagine not too much thrills me anymore.

At Kings Island, Drop Tower still thrills me, because the idea of going over 300 feet in the air to simply be dropped 276 feet straight down, with only a set of magnets to stop me, just doesn't sit well. Nothing else manages to thrill me, even Diamondback has become very mellow and easy going.

At any other parks, surprisingly Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Florida is very thrilling to me, and you'd have to ride it to understand. I'll just say this, it's not the ride that scares you, it's the Mummy.

Tornado actually thrills me, for one reason only: The Cliff. If you've ridden it, you'd understand how amazing that element is.

Top Thrill Dragster does not thrill me too much, because I've ridden it so many times, and it so short that it doesn't really scare me.

However, there is one ride that still manages to get my adrenaline pumpin every time I ride it:

Millennium Force.

When I rode it the first time, I was speechless. Having grown up with Paramount's Kings Island, I had no idea you could even build a ride like that. The speed, the height, the length, the location, everything about it is amazing. From the first look over the 300 foot hill, to the last high speed turn past the queues, it does a fantastic job of thrilling me.

I rode Apollo's Chariot 6 or 7 years ago. Thats when I rated it on my profile. I guess it didn't impress me As a 9 or 10 year old like it did last week.
