iChase
I'm sorry if this topic has been posted, or even beaten to death. We know of at least one ride that's going downhill in Action Zone (pun intended), perhaps two. Throw away your opinions on the rides that are in their current spots, and cast a dream. My question: if, IF, SoB and Flight Deck were to be removed, what would you do with the space?
PREMiERdrum
Create a loop behind the skycoaster that connects back up to the main path by Drop Tower, elininating the dead end that is Action Zone. Save the space for future development.
Vortex
Another land with another wooden coaster.
Diamondback FOF
I would build another wooden coaster that is a hyper coaster, only better somehow. Also, I would build a giga or strata coaster that has a cable lift; not launched. It would have a few inversions.
rotag
Something small but packs a wollup. It doesn't have to be big to be intense.
najellin
I agree, the area needs to have a better way of getting around back there. I'd put a pathway not only looping around SkyCoaster and Drop Tower, but that somehow connects up with X Base. The area would be big enough to be considered its own section, so I'd gradually build onto it. 1st year: Inverted Coaster (where Flight Deck was). 2nd year: Terrain Coaster (preferably wooden) in some of the space left behind by Son of Beast. 3rd year: A spinning ride (ALA: Tony Hawk's Spin). 4th year: An Inverted Launch Coaster. 5th year: Dark Ride (themed to dinosaurs). From there, I don't know b/c that would be too much dreaming.
KI Kevin
Gravity Group, GCI, or Intamin woodie. Filled with airtime. Hyper?
HTCO
Replace Congo Falls with a S&S Swing. Replace SOB with a terrain hugging GCI or Intiman Woodie. Leave a path that direction for future expansion.
Shaggy
Why are there so many people speculating the removal of Flight Deck? There are threads suggesting this everywhere. Why? Because it needs a paint job? Because Big Bad Wolf is being removed? I will fall off my chair shocked if Flight Deck goes anywhere in the next 10 years. SOB is a different story... it's the new Hercules. What would I do with the area? Kill SOB, remove the Go-Carts and cut a path to The Racer/FOF area. I'd remove Congo Falls and Invertigo and place a true Invert in their spot. Shaggy

Every time I'm back there I feel like the park is just trying to forget about it. So, what if? Personally, I love it and want it to stay. Will it stay? Most likely. It has great reliability and is a great starter for children beginning their journey on bigger coasters. So what if it hasn't had a paint job. Have you seen the inside of the break run tunnels on The Racer? That coaster could use some paint too and never has a long line but I don't see it gone in the near future. Some of those are worse than Flight Deck, by far! I would burn SoB (I said it!) and Thunder Alley and put a Maurer Sohne spinner in Thunder Alley's spot. Get a nice GCI for SoB's old spot, and put some TREES! in where the water tower is now.

McSalsa
Well, I assume Flight Deck won't be removed, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and let's say SOB is removed... New Hyper-Woodie. Back when SOB was built in 2000, Pre-Fab woodies were still a year away and I am not sure how far off Steel Supports were. SOB was also built by a manufacturer who didn't really know what they were doing and had little wooden coaster making experience. They also tried too much at once when it wasn't yet possible. Now it's 9 years later. Pre-Fab woodies go nearly as high as SOB, and are almost as fast. And yet they have no roughness at all! Look at El Toro or Colossos. There is a website called www.coastergrotto.com where users can rate any roller coaster in the world from 1-10. Son of Beast (somehow, must not be as hated as we thought) has a 7.4. But the pre-fab monsters El Toro and Colossos are 9.4 or higher even after 100s of votes(in the case of El Toro at least). That's even better than Beast(8.8) and only a little below Voyage(9.6)! I don't see a pre-fab woodie having a problem going even higher than SOB. Now, you also need someone who actually knows how to make wooden monsters- CGI, Intamin, and a few others come to mind. Don't try massive helixes at 78mph, use airtime hills instead at those speeds. My hyper-woodie would actually probably be an out-and-back coaster. Think Racer, but MUCH, MUCH bigger. And faster. With tunnels. Not sure of a name for it, leaning towards "The Mammoth". Or just Mammoth. This coaster would restore all records lost when SOB was destroyed and restore the good Kings Island name to boot. This would also open space for a expansion from X-Base to Action Zone for a future coaster. King Cobra II? B&M Dive Machine? Floorless? Stratacoaster? The possibilites for that are endless...and I'd remove Thunder Alley, replace with a flatride. Not sure which one but a choice could be made... ...back to reality, we first need to see what happens to SOB...
The Interpreter
...Back when SOB was built in 2000, Pre-Fab woodies were still a year away and I am not sure how far off Steel Supports were. SOB was also built by a manufacturer who didn't really know what they were doing and had little wooden coaster making experience. They also tried too much at once when it wasn't yet possible.... Uh, the Coney Island Cyclone has steel supports. It was built 73 YEARS before Son of Beast! Dozens of such wooden coasters with steel supports have been built. Wooden coasters have been built on steel supports for many decades. Also, Roller Coaster Corporation of America had substantial experience in the industry. There are those who would say the coasters they had built were not all that satisfying, but I would point out the park owner had a choice in deciding to who would build the coaster, and they chose RCCA. At first. I would point out that RCCA was subsequently removed as the contractor on the Son of Beast project and replaced by none other than Paramount Parks, who then supervised the construction. Roller Coaster Corporation of America was not in charge of the project during the bulk of its construction. Terpy, just sayin'
