RailRider
Great article from the Columbus Dispatch and how this Summer has affected Zoombezi Bay. Columbus Dispatch
Browntggrr
I would have to say, it was probably a bad year for most places. Even taking the economy out of the picture, I cannot remember a worse weather summer than this year. And look at it now: sunny, humid, temps in the mid to upper 70's. Even my friend that is a grape farmer is very concerned about his crop. Worried about the damage from a late frost in early May, but also worried about the amount of rain- which causes disease & mildew, and the lack of heat & sun which does not get the natural sugar "brix" level where it is suppose to be. Bad weather is the last thing parks needed this summer.
RailRider
^ Agreed this has been a horrible Summer Weather wise.
The Interpreter
Yep, the type of summer people made fun of Gary Story for blaming for SIX's bad performance. Of course, that man used that excuse EVERY year.
DaveStroem
We had season passes to ZB last year. The park was not well run and seemed that everything was an up-charge. You had to rent a tube to use in the lazy river. We chose to skip the season passes this year and get CF ones instead. The Columbus Zoo is 1st class but Zoombezi is at best a 2nd class water park and Jungle Jack's Landing is more like 4th class. I could see them adding to JJL with some thrill rides and an adult coaster to get the teens to purchase a wristband.

If you don't rent a tube, can you still use the "LAZY" river by walking it? Thanks for the heads-up. I would not deal with something like that very quietly. EDIT: I can't find anything on their website that communicates an upcharge for tube rental. http://www.zoombezibay.com/attractions.aspx
pyrocoasterkid
IMO, while Zoombezi Bay has good potential being completely revamped a few years back, it was WAY too expensive for what the park offers thus far. If I recall, I paid $25 or $30 just for the water park. Being that there isn't that many slides, it seemed like too much to me.

And yes people walked in the lazy river. This made it a PIA for those in tubes because the walkers were slower then the floaters.

The price does include the zoo as well but if your going for the water park it is about double what it is worth.

AgentSoB
Back in the day when it was a member of the Six Flags family, Wyandot Lake did not allow tubes in the lazy river. The upcharge for tube rental was there, but they were used in the wave pool. It was very hard to swim in the wave pool because of this. I was once actually pulled from the water after being trapped under a group of tubes. Although SF kind of took the lazy out of the river, it was still entertaining to me. Sometimes it makes me angry when the lifegaurds get anal at KI for you leaving your raft...

In our several trips this year and last, I was very impressed with the park. Other than the lazy river tubes, what else is an upcharge at the waterpark? The Dispatch article does hint at a new attraction for next year... and I know those in charge are really looking at some great stuff for the park. I'm excited to see how things turn out. DaveStroem
Well it did say "seemed". First off we were Zoo season pass holders. So there was an upcharge for Zoombezi Bay. Then after dropping some $$$ for that we headed over and got hit with the tube rental. Then when we wanted to ride a flat ride that required more $$$. It realy felt like they just kept putting their hand in my wallet to see if there was anything left.

I'm not sure if the rides park will stay as it is, or be absolved into one of the other two parks. Every time I've been (except for the media preview day) the rides area was pretty empty. I think it would do best as part of the Zoo, since Zoombezi guests have access to the Zoo already. I too think that raft rental is crazy, although I know continued this from Wyandot Lake. I'm still overall very impressed with the park - especially comparing to what it was just a few years ago. As the Zoo becomes more of a destination, I think we'll see some awesome new attractions coming to Zoombezi (and I know for a fact that animal / water attractions are under development). DaveStroem
I feel that they could add some 48" thrill rides and get a pretty quick return on investment.

When you didn't, you ended up with a tube on your head. (for what it's worth, Oceans of Fun rents tubes for the lazy river...)
