alluna
Hello, Rain here, and I'm doing some research for a story on the ghostly happenings at Kings Island. I've been going to the park since I was a kid, and have not experienced anything myself besides my own overactive imagination. I do believe in ghosts, though, so I'm really eager to hear all about any possibly paranormal happenings at the park! I've read the other thread, Is Kings Island Haunted?, but that thread is going on 50 pages and, in my opinion, needs to get truncated. There are so many stories there, but they are congested with side arguments and religious debates. It's difficult to sift through the mess over there. In this thread, I'd like to just have stories and experiences posted that you would like to share publicly. Again, I'm not asking for your opinions on whether or not ghosts exist or whether or not Kings Island is haunted. Here I'd just like to purely collect happenings as well as information on the burial ground, cemetery, park deaths and 'haunted' areas. Hopefully with a bunch of 'takes' on the events, we can sort out which haunts have the consensus among many workers/guests, and which ones are singular events. I have contacted some of you via private message who have posted on the previously mentioned thread because you had some great stories, or inside information on the park due to staff positions. I really want to encourage staff to share, but only if it doesn't violate a contract you've signed with the company. Anonymity can be maintained by contacting me with stories via private message. Thanks so much for your contributions. Any quoted writing used in publishing will be cited with your full name at your request. Otherwise they will be anonymous. Coney Islander
Ok- this is all I know about the deaths that have happened at Kings Island. 1. First, there's Racer Boy that is said to haunt Racer's tracks. Some people say the boy that was thrown from his car on The Shooting Star at Cincinnati's Coney Island's, a bit before the park closed for good. Racer Boy is said to haunt the train that is now being used on The Racer. (Could someone confirm that The Racer uses the same trains the Shooting Star did?) 2. Sometime in the 80's a young man tried to climb the Eiffel Tower between 7:00 and 11:00 P.M., and was (debatably) either hit by the elevator and killed, or fell off the side of the tower to his death. Now, he's known as Tower Johnny and his ghost is said to mess with the Eiffel Tower's lift mechanism after the park closes. 4. Also on June 9, 1991, a guest entered one of the small lakes in the Octoberfest area, to retrieve a lost hat and was electrocuted by loose wires inside the lake. A park employee was also killed, trying to save this man. 3. On June 9, 1991, a 32 year old woman from Dayton, got on Flight Commander, an Intamin Flight Trainer that was formerly at Kings Island. It is said she stood up while the ride was in motion, and fell to her death. Her blood- alcohol level was recorded at .30%. (June 9, 1991 is known as "Black Sunday", because of these three deaths) Do not quote me on any of this... all of these deaths did happen, but much of the info on what really happened has been lost over the years. Also, it would also be great for someone to proofread this... Edit- heres a very interesting article I posted on the other thread- http://www.themeparkinsider.com/news/response.cfm?ID=3108 Another thing to note, is that there is an old graveyard inside the area where Kings Island's parking lot is. Since you're writing a book, you should take a look at the gravestones, some of them are REALLY old.
CedarPointer
I always heard that it was "Black Sunday".
The Interpreter
It WAS Black Sunday. He has the month wrong. From the timeline of this here website: 1991: ... June 9 - Two men were killed after having been electrocuted in a pond at Kings Island amusement park in Kings Island, Ohio. They were trying to rescue another man who was in the pond whos hat had blown into the pond. He also suffered electrical shock. The electrocutions were later found out to be caused by a underwater circulation pump. Also later on the same day, a very drunk woman fell out of her seat Flight Commander. This day is known as Black Sunday. http://www.KICentral.com/history/timeline.php
Coney Islander
Wow. Thanks! I guess I'm sorta in a Haunt- psyched mood. I should've gotten that right... Oh well Edit- I've gotta learn to stop trusting wikipedia
violakat03
The only haunting I've really heard about at KI besides Tower Johnny is that supposedly one of the control towers (tower 2 IIRC) on White Water Canyon is haunted. I've never been up there but I've heard from people that have that you'll feel someone tap on your shoulder and there's no one there, or things being moved around behind you. buckeyemaniac
I have never actually experienced anything out of the ordinary, but I work at the park and many of my co-workers say they have seen things. First, I work at the log flume, there are cameras in the tower at the top of the lift hill, one shows the brakes that the boats stop on before going onto the track, one shows the top of the lower lift hill. I have two friends who claim to have seen a ghostly hand wave in front of the brake camera and a small girl walk across the top of the low lift. Second, in addition to the ghost that throws rocks at tower 2 at WWC (named Woody) there is also a girl in a blue dress. Legend has it that she died in the lake that used to be in that area, specifically the area in the ravine below the train bridge. She has been known to chase after the train at night. I know two people that have seen her from the back of the train, another that has had guests complain to him about seeing the ghost, and another that saw the ghost from tower 3 at WWC (the tower across from the overlook, the tracks go right behind it). Another ghost at WWC is the girl in the red dress, I don't know much about her, but my friend says she saw her standing at the bottom of the lift at WWC on the dock near the runout. Tower Johnny also supposedly haunts The Beast as well as the tower. It's rumored that the cables that killed him are buried near the brake shed and at night you can see a pair of ghostly red eyes right beside the shed. I don't know anyone who claims to have seen them, but I've heard the story many times. Supposedly you can also see his ghost in the helix. alluna
Certainly, but neither you, nor anyone else, work for PKI. Wow, I went back to check that I'd really typed in 'PKI'. Sure did. Old habits die hard, I guess. Probably cause I still type in 'pki.com' into the browser to get to the website quickly. Then again, it's still a challenge to call all the rides by their new names. My family is the type to sing the theme from 'Top Gun' while walking through the queue for 'Flight Deck' to make up for the music being removed. ;p (Which we wouldn't do if there were an actual line to stand in and people to annoy). Scooby Doo - I've heard of the Oxford lights and of course know of a friend-of-a-friend who's experienced it (who doesn't?). It seems to be a really strong legend with lots of people claiming to have seen it first-hand. Creepy stuff.
dakota2112
I've seen the Oxford Light. It also goes by another name: the headlights of a car driving towards you wayyyy off in the distance.
