IndyGuy4KI Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 The LA Times reports on the Top 10 Wooden Coasters. The Top 10 is dominated by woodies at smaller parks along the Midwest coaster belt, a 1,000-mile stretch roughly following I-70 through Missouri, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. The list includes a pair of coasters from one park as well as a couple of surprise picks outside the elite ranks. http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/index.php/top-10-wood-coasters-6317/ Quote
Guest rcfreak339 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Boulder Dash, Beast, Voyage and ElToro are all in there...good poll. Quote
KIfan1980 Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 I'll give them credit for the list (and trying to identify and use industry insiders to accumulate it). The only thing that left me confused was that in all the picture caption (see two examples below), GCI was credited for their coaters, but noone else was (Shouldn't Gravity Group show up under The Voyage?) ****Captions from top two photos**** 2. El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey (Great Coasters International) 1. The Voyage at Holiday World in Indiana (Holiday World) Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 El Toro is INTAMIN, not GCII, too.... They also did not spell Waldameer correctly... Quote
Jasper Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Surprise surprise, The Voyage and The Beast are the only 2 coasters really in the running for number 1. Quote
Diamondback96 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Worlds of Fun is in Indiana? Then maybe I should buy a CF Platinum Pass from there! Quote
pkiboy Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Worlds of Fun is in Indiana? Then maybe I should buy a CF Platinum Pass from there! I saw that LOL. Quote
gigacoaster2k Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I love how some publishers are just like, "OK. I'm not exactly sure about this information, so instead of using Google like an intelligent human being, I'm going to just take a wild, uneducated guess at this." It certainly adds to the humor aspect, but I'm not sure they are aware that they aren't exactly gaining credibility. Quote
IndyGuy4KI Posted January 31, 2010 Author Posted January 31, 2010 No Cornball? Must not have went to IB to ride it? Quote
thekidd33 Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 They have also posted their top 10 steel coasters as well, with Diamondback coming in at #7. Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Here's the link to their steel coasters article: http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/index.php/top-10-steel-roller--6318/ Quote
coaster_junky Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 ^it says that Diamondback finishes with a splashdown into a lake, is this similar to a "cement pond"? Quote
The Interpreter Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Some would say there is not a nickel's worth of difference... Quote
markr Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I noticed they labeled The Beast as an Out and Back Terrain. Have never heard anyone refer to The Beast as an Out and Back. Quote
coaster_junky Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 well arn't all roller coasters out and back, because they all have trains that end up back in the station? but your right, i've never heard it called an out and back before. Quote
Cory Butcher Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I misread an above statement, my apologies! Edited: February 1, 2010 Quote
coaster_junky Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 ^since when was The Beast sbno, unless your counting the down period from november 2- april 17? Quote
Cory Butcher Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Oh my bad, I misread the statement...I thought it said "Son of Beast" not The Beast! Oops, lol. Quote
Beast79 Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 Beast is a classic but Voyage is so much better. Sorry Beast Quote
