Six Flags Magic Mountain Planning

Recommended Posts

Alrighty. As part of spring break, my sister, mom and I will be going to SFMM Friday, April 2nd. I've never been there, and REALLY would like to make the most of my time. I'll be getting a Gold Flash Pass, which is good on any major ride besides X2 I believe (correct me if I'm wrong). Here's the list of rides I would like to ride:

X2!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tatsu

Riddler's Revenge

Superman The Escape (assuming it's open)

Deja Vu

Goliath

Ninja

Revolution

Scream

Terminator Salvation (never ridden a GCI, unfortunately)

Viper

Ninja

Batman (for the sake of credits!)

and to be honest I don't think I should have any problems getting those in with a GFP. Oh yeah! and...

Mr. Six's Dancecoaster of course! just kidding....

So anyway, for planning: Looking at the map (Link Here) I should go to X2 first, you know, it being a popular ride, and the only one you can't use a flash pass on free of charge. Then I'd ride Revolution, then make my way clockwise around the outer ring of the park, hitting Viper, Deja Vu, Terminator, then going in to the center. There I would ride Superman, Tatsu, and Ninja. After that, I'd get back out to the outer ring, where I'd ride Riddler's, Batman, Scream, Goliath, and Colossus. I'd spend the remainder doing rerides of my favorites, or the remaining coasters.

Does this sound like a good plan? Does this seem possible? Are there any good rides I left out? Restaurant recommendations (LA area too)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I get back I'll have an epic PTR!

Thanks

P.S. I've heard horrible things about reliability pertaining to Superman, X2 (though I've heard it's getting better), and of course Deja Vu. Any advice/ info?

I have not been to the park myself but from what I understand you are correct about going to X2 first then getting your GFP before you head to your next ride unless your mom is not a rider, then she could pick it up while you hit X2. Last year, I believe that Terminator was not included in the GFP listing and was an up charge. I don't think that is the case this year though.

I have also been told to allow plenty of time to get to the park. This is LA and traffic is nothing like what we have in Ohio.

Have fun and take lots of pictures.

I was there last year in February. We did a similar double loop around the park like you are planning. My main piece of warning is to get to the park early. We were half an hour late to begin with (Howling at the moon the night before) and were in a huge line for X2. That day, most of the people headed straight for X2 or Tatsu upon entering the park.

Go and Have fun.

P.S. Did you list Ninja (HiYa) twice because you really want to ride it?

^Woops, I'll edit that out. I considered maybe scratching that off the list but with the few suspended coasters out there these days, I can't pass it up. By the way, I'll do everything in my power to be there early. Last year one day my dad and I arrived at 8 O' Clock for Cedar Point!

And Terpy, I'm sure I'll love it.

Dave: My mom is not a rider, however, we were planning on buying the flash pass online. I guess it would still be the same plan, but instead of paying for it with money, I'd assume she'd have a certificate.

See my trip report here: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20588&st=0&p=357221&fromsearch=1entry357221

I went in early January, and it was utterly FANTASTIC. The lines were really short all day (walk-ons on 90% of the rides).

Obviously, I agree with you going to X2 first. It's kind of confusing to get to that coaster.. you have to walk under a walkway, only to go up and cross over that same walkway to get to it. But that ride is just incredible.

Be sure to hit Revolution. The trains are a little uncomfortable, but if you can get past that it really is a fantastic coaster. I was expecting a few hills and the loop, but it's certainly much more than that.

When I was at the park, the kid I rode on X2 in the morning told me to go straight to Tatsu after that because the lines build up quick, but the day I went, Tatsu was a walk-on all day. Make certain you ride it though. That is what a flyer should be. Breathtaking.

Terminator is a really good experience as well, but it was also the longest wait of the day for me. Might want to plan accordingly.

Other than that, I would try to just hit the rides in a decent order (don't cross the park numerous times), because the terrain is incredibly hilly. But the park really uses it to its advantage. I'm certainly planning on making it back there in the not too distant future. If you have any other random questions, feel free to ask. It's pretty fresh in my mind :)

Also, I haven't been up to date on Knott's or anything, but Ghostrider and Xcelerator are open from rehab and repairs, correct? Their starlight ticket is $26.99, so we may be going there as well (I have a KI Platinum Pass, but not my family), but if those two aren't open, my desire to go to KBF drops a ton.

EDIT: Screamscape says Xcelerator will not open back up until April 30, so I won't be riding that.

I DEFINITELY recommend a gold flash pass. It was the only reason I got to do as much as I did when I was out there in September. You will have no problem accomplishing everything on your list. With that said I gotta point out, unless its changed since then, both X2 and Terminator are NOT included with a Gold Flash Pass. You have the option to purchase one ride on each for $10 each....thats in addition to what you shell out for the Gold Flash Pass. I did it for X2, but Terminator's line wasn't so much of an issue when I made it to that area of the Park. Like I said, that could have changed since my visit last September but be forewarned :-) I had a great day at SFMM, Terminator and Tatsu were definite highlights.

While X2 is still an upcharge for the GFP, they've added Terminator to the list. How does this rank when stacked up against other GCI's?

That's awesome to hear that Terminator was added! Unfortunately I was on a tight schedule when I went, I only had about 4 hours so I chose to ride the coasters that were new since my last visit. Terminator was absolutely fantastic, but I only got to ride once so really couldn't get a good feel for it. Its definitely better than the the two Roar's, Wildcat and Gwazi. From there I dunno. I'm a huge fan of Thunderhead, Evil Knievel and Prowler. Its certainly a high caliber ride like all of those.

I don't feel bad at all about it. Everyone has the opportunity to buy it, so they really can't complain.

As for Knott's, I'm pretty sure Xcelerator is open from rehab, since they were working on it way back in January. I'm not sure about Ghostrider, as it was open when I went. It should be on the web site, though. I'm getting really jealous.. I wish I was going to SFMM in 3 days!

Terpy is right. The day that I went, the park was only open from 10:30 to 7, so I had a small breakfast in the morning, ate one meal in the park, and then ate on the way back home after it closed. But there are plenty of options in the park where you can avoid eating meat. As terp said, there is always cheese pizza, and there are salad places too, I believe.

Thanks, guys! I believe the new plan is to go to MM, then if I've done everything, go to Knott's from about 6-10.

EDIT: Scratch that plan. I went to Knott's last night.....fun park....more in the PTR. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take many pictures (it was dark), and I didn't ride any flats (I got there about 8 so I had 2 hours to enjoy the park). I got all of the coasters in except for Xcelerator (stupid accident.....I can't believe it's STILL closed), which killed me. You'd have to see that thing, towering above all the other coasters, knowing you can't ride it....it sucks. I also did not ride Timberline Twister, or whatever that Camp Snoopy coaster is called.

Went to Magic Mountain yesterday and had the time of my life! This park is great! It was a clean and friendly. X2 is EPPP ICKKKKK. Terminator is a fantastic woodie, IMO only defeated by Voyage...I'll have a TR and photos hopefully by next Sunday (going on a cruise today, no internet access).

Thank you guys for all the tips!

Glad to hear you had a great time!

I`ve never been to Six Flags Magic Mountain before. In fact, the only Six Flags park I went to, is no longer a Six Flags park or even an amusement park anymore. And the other park that I went to before it became a Six Flags is also no longer a park anymore, effective this year.
