When Paramount bought Kings Island, it was owned by American Financial Corporation and managed by KECO. From what I heard they didn't do as well as Taft or Paramount. Assuming that American Financial Corporation would've sold it to someone other than Paramount...I'd say that it wouldn't been private investors or Six Flags. Regardless of whom bought it...I'd say we'd see the following:

1. The Lion Country Safari would be there. Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey operates a similar wild animal safari and would know how to manage KI's. Additionally private investors probably would've kept it because it was popular.

2. No Paramount's Action Zone, Top Gun, TR:TR, Face/Off, Wings Diner, Bubba Gump Shrimp Shack, Paramount Story, Nickelodeon Central, Nickelodeon characters, no Rugrats Runaway Reptar, no Nickelodeon show or Nickelodeon character breakfast, no Wild Thornberry's River Adventure, and the new Boomerang Bay wouldn't come to existence because it's Paramount corporate wide.

3. Congo Falls would still be Amazon Falls. Drop Zone and Days of Thunder would probably be there....but with different names.

4. All the Hanna-Barbera characters would still roam the park. And if Six Flags owned KI...so would Looney Toons as both are owned by Warner.

That's all I can think about for today. Have a great day!

I think all the AZ rides would still be there but with different names. For example Drop Zone could be Stunt Tower or Days of Thunder could be turned back to XS Raceway or Face/Off could be called Invertigo. Anyway I think ridewise, they would still be there but with different names

Yeah, obviously the Paramount-owned copywrites wouldn't be roaming the park as they are today. Just be glad that Six Flags didn't buy it. At least Paramount can concentrate on their handful of parks instead of Six Flags owning countless parks worldwide and cloning stuff for them.

I think Top Gun would still be there but not called Top Gun. Wasn't it already in the planning (and maybe building phase) when Paramount bought the park?

Top Gun was in the final planning and maybe construction phases when paramount bought the park from KECO. If I recall correctly if was going to be called "Thunder Road" before paramount took over and added the Top Gun name and themeing.

Well if Paramount did not buy the park,

- International Restaurant would still be there

-International Street would syill have unique shops, not the mall-type setting that it is today

- the park would be cleaner. When it was just KI, it was by far the cleanest park that anyone had ever been to.

-The rides would be original to KI. They did have The Beast, Bat than Vortex, Flight Commander, WAH, Enchanted Voyage than Smurf Ride than Phantom Theatre, WWC, WaterWorks and others BEFORE Paramount took over.

I guess what I am saying is that when Paramount took over, KI was one of the most known parks in the world for the uniqueness of their rides. Today PKI does not have that same mystiqueness about it. I do like some of the additions that Paramount has done, but overall, the park has not advanced as much as I thought it would.

At one time KI was the most visited seasonal park in the states, even ahead of CP and Disney for the months that it was open, it is just not like that anymore.

I think that KI would be further along than it is. I would have thought that since Paramount bought it, there would be more money for capital expenditures. It's crazy if they were origianlly gonna call Top Gun Thunder Road. That makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Oh well, guess we shouldn't dwell too long on what could have been.

I think we would have a very different park. I'm not sure if it would be better or not. Paramount does have some cash but amusement parks are usually get the least attention in entertainment companies, as eviedenced by the rumored sell-off of Unviersal parks after NBC buys Vivendi. The former owners made some smart moves (i.e Beast, Vortex, WWC) but they made a few bad ones too. I've never cared for Amazon Falls and no matter what people say, Phantom Theater never did anything for me. To me, it seemed like the former owners had lost some creativity towards the end. I think Paramount came in and added some great rides. Yeah, they took away a lot of the parks unique quaulities but I think it's still a good. They haven't gone "coaster crazy" like CP but they haven't gone "clone" crazy or ignored other parks like Six Flags.

One thing for sure, there would be no Nick and quite possibly no HB. I am sure Time Warner would have charged so much for the use of the HB characters, that the former owners would have let them go. They probably would have been able to get rights for some other line of characters. After all, CP used to have no name characters, and then the Bernstein Bears, and now Peanuts. Maybe they could have snagged Calvin & Hobbes (that's just my wishful thinking).

well i think if Paramount didn't buy King's Island, it would suck to tell you the truth. Paramount is a great Amusement chain, definetly better than SF by a long shot and actually comes close to CF a little bit. They could have some of the rides but not all, now that KI is one of the 2 bigger Paramount parks with KD, they are seeing all of this amazing stuff, if there was no Paramount, i don't think it would be as good of a park as we see now.

I'm not trying to be rude, so please don't take me the wrong way.

Saying the park would "suck", in your opinion, I do have respect for, because it is your opinion. The problem that I have is, you were born in 1987, and Paramount's first full year was 1993. So the "truth" is when Paramount took over you were 6 years old, and you have kept the same opinion about KI? dry.gif

I am wondering, what did KI do that gave you such a negative opinion, at the age of 6, and why would it have "sucked" if Paramount did not take over?

Kings Island and Kings Dominion started the parks you see today, so it could not have been that bad, and KI has been one of the biggest parks in the US since 1980, 13 years before Paramount.

Just remember, just because it is bigger (Paramount), does not mean better.

I agree that the park would not "suck" without Paramount. As a matter of fact, it was cleaner and the themeing was more upkept. The ride choices may have been the same, but definitely different names. And, probably they wouldn't take so long to build a new coaster. My fonder memories are before Paramount took over.

Way different. Ride names would be different, restaurants wouldn't be the same, and I think the park wouldn't rake in so many guests and money if Paramount hadn't bought it. If the Paramount name wasn't there, it'd still be sucessful, but not as big as it is today. But, that's my opinion so don't take my word for it.
