Leap The Dips at Lakemont Park now an upcharge

Recommended Posts

$2.50 per ride according to Screamscape, glad I went when I did. As many times as I rode the coaster it would have cost me a fortune. I would rather see the admission price take a hike, but I suppose they struggle enough already.

I agree, shooting themselves in the foot. I wouldn't ride it more than once at that price, if at all considering I already have the credit. That's more than a ride on Phoenix at Knoebels, which you CAN buy a wristband for, and I personally find to be more worth the price. You ride Leap the Dips for its historical significance, not for the thrill.

They claim that the reason is to lesson the crowds on LTD. IIRC LTD only has one car that holds 4 people. It would have to be the worst ride on the planet for capacity. tongue.gif

I think they should sell the wristband and give you one ticket to ride LTD if you want more, then pay for them.

When I was there on a Saturday last June I never had a wait to get on it. I agree on a wristband that cost more and includes the LTD. Even if it was $1 I'd ride it 4 or 5 times, but at $2.50 a pop, that can add up in a hurry.

Why on earth would you try to lessen the crowds on a ride? Especially when that ride is likely the biggest reason many people visit that park?

Doesn't make any sense to me, especially when you can pay $10 for unlimited rides on just about everything else in the park.

If I remember correctly, hopefully Interpreter will chime in when he returns, when the ride re-opened in 1999 they were charging additional for it. I don't remember how much, but I definitely remember paying in addition to my POP. Its my understanding that it was only recently that they began including it in POP. Either way, if this means helping to ensure the ride continues to operate then I have no problem with it! It's not like Lakemont is ripping people off, $9.95 for an all day wristband? $2.50 is not really such a big deal....a Coke at Kings Island cost more wacko.gif

Todd, I don't think anyone is saying that Lakemont is ripping anyone off. I fear that they will take a financial hit because of this. Lakemont reminds me a lot of Strickers. Some fun flats and a few coasters but not much more.

I realize that. Just pointing out that at one point, it already was an additional cost and people continued to ride it. If anything, they took the financial hit when they began to include it in the POP. I don't see that this would take a major toll on their attendance, so all those people are still going to be paying as they normally would have....then a little extra if they want to take a spin on LTD. You're right though, Lakemont has a very Stricker-esq feel to it. I really enjoyed the time I spentthere , though it is hard to believe it was 11 years ago and LTD had just opened!!

I can see them making it an upcharge on their cheap night, because the park is packed on Wednesdays. We waited well over an hour for LTD, because yes, it does only have one 4-person car, and they don't seem interested in filling it if there's a group of 2 followed by a group of 4. The line moves like molasses. However, on normal nights at full price for the wristbands, it makes no sense. I'm betting a lot of enthusiasts (and probably a lot of GP) will skip out on the full price wristband and just buy enough tickets to ride LTD and Skyliner.
