June 9, 201016 yr Very interesting stuff here: http://www.nileguide...or-exploration/ WELL worth going to see...in more ways than one...
June 10, 201016 yr I also feel sad when I see such things. I mean the small ferris wheel with a tree growing up through it. I want that in my back yard!
June 10, 201016 yr It always interests me when I see pictures of these. It just brings to life the harsh reality of the times. Some of those wooden coasters are pretty cool, even in death. I always imagine The Beast rotting away, trees covering it, but still present.

June 10, 201016 yr I thought the pictures of Six Flags New Orleans and Rocky Point are the ones that break my heart the most. Those pictures of "Jazzland" are really cool and super creepy! It could totally pass for being "haunted"! I do, however, hope that gets up and running again.
June 10, 201016 yr how so if it has been tore down? It hasn't been completely torn down as mentioned in the article, the economy has slowed the redevelopment.
June 10, 201016 yr Why are parks "abandoned"? They can't at least use the facilities for other things? I know they tear down the coasters, but what about the restaurants and shopping? Those buildings could be used for so much!
June 11, 201016 yr Author Be careful what you wish for. MOST parks that are redeveloped become condos, shopping centers or just vacant land...contrary to popular belief, there is not a huge market, especially right now, for such large parcels, as Cedar Fair has found out about Geauga Lake, to its sorrow.

June 11, 201016 yr Terpy thank you for that link, things like these amaze me and I could sit here and look at these pictures for days. I think it's just so cool to think what once was and now look at what it actually is.
June 11, 201016 yr From the article Terpy posted in post #1: Amusement parks walk the fine line between fun-ish and semi-creepy. Maybe it's the combination of sketchy rides, circus folk, questionable attractions, and way too many screaming kids, but there's something a little unsettling about them. What parks has the author been frequenting? None of the ones I've been going to! Although I imagine that if you're not a fan of rides, you could have this opinion... EDIT: Actually, I can think of one park I've been to like that. My one and only trip to Lesourdsville Lake, the one year it reopened. *shudder*
June 11, 201016 yr Thanks for showing this!!! I love looking at abandoned buildings and parks!!! Although it does make me sad!
June 21, 201016 yr You would think that theme parks with some history would be protected unless there are some that are. Like the nu pike back in long beach calf that closed in 1979.It has some history with it come good or bad.The cyclone racer was a big draw at the pike.It was right on the beach. The double ferris wheel.Laff in the dark fun house that later on was found to have a real dead person in it.The rotor was pretty good back then as well as the house of glass.I know it would never be the same, but i wish they would rebuild it and bring back some of the things that made it nice.Rip pike.I still love knotts and magic mountain.hope we never lose them.
June 21, 201016 yr Author Just last week I ran into a gentleman who spoke lovingly and at length about the Pike, and how much he loved the coaster there....
