July 12, 201016 yr Author With video: http://www.myfoxatla...-20100711-pm-es ...Witnesses told FOX 5 they first smelled smoke, and then saw bright orange flames coming from the small building near the wave pool. That building, known as the barge, houses the pump for the pool, FOX 5's Julia Harding reported. Authorities say the fire was put out quickly, but the park was evacuated. Traffic was also diverted around the park. By 6 pm, nearly everyone had left the park. Cobb County and Marietta police officers were working to direct the remaining patrons from the park. No injuries were reported.
July 12, 201016 yr What is with these fires popping up all of a sudden? It seems like it's been this summer that a ton of fires have been at amusement parks. Blame it on the heat wave. Much like in the winter when it is extremely cold outside- people use space heaters; when it gets this hot outside, motors tend to overheat causing electrical fires. This is why it is always a good idea to keep airflow & filters clean to any motor. Not only will a blocked airway make the motor work overtime bumping your electric bill to kingdom come- it is a fire hazard.
July 13, 201016 yr Author Park to reopen tomorrow: ...People were quickly and safely evacuated from the park, due to a staff that's trained for situations like this, Gardner said. There were people who were angry and wanted to stay, but no fights or arrests were reported, he said. "The primary concern was getting everybody out of the park safely," Gardner said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Gardner said. Marietta and Cobb firefighters responded to the scene, and Cobb police and the sheriff's office assisted with the evacuation. Fire crews were on the scene for several hours fighting any additional hot spots. Authorities routed traffic out of the park northbound on Cobb Parkway throughout the afternoon. Although it was hectic as the park was being emptied, Moser said the park staff worked quickly to get everyone to safety. "We were given vouchers, so we'll definitely come back," Moser said. http://www.ajc.com/n...cxtype=rss_news
July 13, 201016 yr Notice the last line that was quoted. Granted when KI lost power, the entire park wasn`t evacuated. But it still shows good customer service to those who spent their hard earned money at the park that the park truly cares about their experience.
July 13, 201016 yr Author And even with a fire in progress, visitors to the park were taken care of as they were evacuated...not contacted the next day in an effort to make things right...
July 13, 201016 yr Apparently the park still had power and vouchers were able to be printed out. Good move SFWW.
July 13, 201016 yr And even with a fire in progress, visitors to the park were taken care of as they were evacuated...not contacted the next day in an effort to make things right... If someone would have told you 5 years ago that we'd be complimenting Six Flags and shaming Kings Island for their very different handling of these similar situations, would you have believed them? Wow. What a Q.
