July 19, 201016 yr Since many people here are likely not familiar with the park: http://www.arnoldspark.com Ive herd of Arnolds Park its a kinda out of the way park but when I took my Midwest trip last summer Im glad we went to Adventure Land instead. Please tell me Some of you have herd of Adventure Land its been on the fourms before and it one of my Fav parks I have been to.
July 19, 201016 yr Author Hmmm....Isn't there a John Miller coaster there? If the answer is yes, someone here has been there...more than once. (That coaster...it's quite the legend) Also, the first McDonald's in an amusement park was located right there at Arnold's Park!
July 19, 201016 yr I grew up just west of Des Moines, and went to Adventureland regularly until I, or some of my older Friends rather, were old enough to drive to KC and visit WoF. I visited the park on occasion after that, last time being 1997, and Outlaw is (or was, recent reports have not been so favorable) a nice little CCI. Im fond also of Tornado, the biggest reason being that it was th very first "big coaster" I ever rode. Before that, the largest was Super Screamer, a now defunct coaster similar in ways to Coney Islands Python. Glad I didnt post my Guess The Coaster pic of Tornado now like I was going to do and get ****y that only Terpy, Shaggy, or Monroe could guess it LOL.
July 19, 201016 yr Author Outlaw is a strange little CCI...it screams GCII...and for good reason. A young man worked on it at the time...his name? Mike Boodley...who went on to found...GCII! And I MUST mention Dragon...a strangely wonderful Hopkins coaster!
July 19, 201016 yr I never rode Dragon, because when I last visited the park I was still incredibly afraid of coasters with any inversions, so I cannot pass judgement on that one... but Ive heard its horrendously rough. I never put a lot of thought into Outlaw being incredibly similar to a GCII, but now as I think about the ride and fondly look at photos I took of it when I was by the park in March, you are absolutely right.
July 20, 201016 yr Author ...Winds also targeted the 121-year-old Arnolds Park Amusement Park and its Legend, a rare wooden roller coaster. Debris dinged the famous structure, but it was back in operation, along with the rest of the park on Monday. Park workers continued to assess damage Monday, but General Manager Scott Pyle knows two popular rides will be out of commission for the time being. "We lost the Tilt-A-Whirl and the Spider," Pyle said. "They have pretty substantial damage." He expects damage estimates to exceed $100,000. Pyle closed down the park about 15 minutes before sirens sounded in the county.... http://www.spencerda...ry/1650644.html (with picture)
