Sooo I was pretty excited for SCarowinds and so I rounded up a friend and we decided to go opening night. As an advisory, there aren't many pics right now put I'll keep posting more every week. **The bring a friend deal is really nice if you have a platinum pass, you can bring one friend every night depending on the night its either $15 or $19.**

We had decided to do the PRE-Haunt VIP, which is an all you can eat dinner and then get in the park 30 minutes early for $16.99. The food, wasn't very good to be honest and not many choices. There was: Turkey, Salad, Green Beens, Corn and Cheddar Potatoes. There was also only 4 people in the whole program, so sitting around with only 2 people was creepy in itself. They played a cool video about SCarowinds, but it repeated like 4 times during the meal which got annoying. It was a nice touch how every worker there was costumed as well as some of the SCare-actors walking around as well.

Most of the rides were open the entire night as well. We rode Afterburn and Boo Blasters.. Intimidator the entire night had a longer line than all the haunts combined!

At 6:30 they let us in the park. The managers showed us where Defex is and that was the only one that would be open to us at that time. So we went straight to Defex to be the first people of the season to go in it. It was definately a fail. First off, you couldn't see at all. Secondly, the actors were pretty much talking to each other and not scaring us. Only cool thing was Where the Wild Things are Guy at the end, he was good. Another thing, about SCarowinds, they use ALOT Of clastraphobic tunnels, it gets annoying after a while.

Camp Killaue: Cute theming. Didn't open till 8 pm. Had everything necessary of a good camp.

Dead Inn: Couldn't see anything. Just a lot of people say leave.

Slaughter House: Long line with a security guy obsessed with yelling at people if they walked over the rope. It wasn't as action packed as Kings Islands Scarowinds but it was okay. More cut off from Scare-actors because they were on the floor.

Aslym: Supposed to be scariest one in park, but it was really lame. No shock.

3D Clowns: If you wanted 3D it was $1 more, so we opted for no 3D. It was pretty cool, the clowns were really exciting and loved jumping around and screaming. Not a good idea to go through after little girls who scream the entire time because it ruins the experience.

Playground: I loved the scare zones, you had to walk through to get places. They were really cute and really interactive. They weren't outside till later in the night though.

Feeding Frenzy: Not my favorite, didn't do anything with walking through. Just a lot of loud music and head banging emo boys.

FANGS SHOW: WORSE SHOW EVER!! It's definately rated R. But was EXREMELY OFEENSIVE. THey had a show and then interjections. They mainly just used gay jokes that werent funny and then went through the crowd and called this one woman the girl from precious. Lets just say, at that point people had enough and more than half of the show got up and left..

I add some photos now but look for more during the year..

Nice pictures, thanks for the report! It's a shame that the event seemed disappointing overall. Back in the Paramount days I used to look over all the different Fear Fest websites and always wanted to make a trip down to Scarowinds as it seemed like a really great event.

In regards to the show, it seems like Cedar Fair thinks that going out of your way to offend people is part of Halloween. Rather than focusing on making an event scary in a creative way, they think that if they just pile on the blood and gore (which I think is ok in moderation) and throw in a few shows that push limits, that they will have a good event. That is simply not true.

The last time I can say I thoroughly enjoyed a Halloween event at Kings Island, was 2006 the last year of Fear Fest. I did not go in 2009, and hope this year is a good one, Half-pint Brawlers already has me shaking my head though. But 2007 and 2008 were disappointing for me, I did not enjoy the extreme, no-limits approach of Halloween Haunt as much as I enjoyed Fear Fest.

I have witnessed what you said about the Fangs show, about people getting up and walking out during the show. I stood outside of Dead Awakening and watched as the International Showplace slowly emptied out. One need only read the comments on Kings Island's video they posted of

to know that it went over the same way. It's almost like they're experimenting with their guests to see how long they'll last before they finally have enough and walk out.

I second what Terpy said, I miss Paramount more and more everyday...

Now that my rant is over, I'll just end by saying I'm looking forward to getting to Haunt this year after missing last year, I hope it's better than my past two experiences, I'll just have avoid the Festhaus it seems.

Well I say you go and enjoy what you like out of the aspects of Haunt at KI. If you don't want to go to Half Pint Brawlers, then don't, and go see something that interests you more. I know I won't be at Half Pint Brawlers, but I will definitely be at all the other haunted attractions and and riding rides in the park. Now if you don't like any aspect of Haunt at all, well the best thing I can recommend for you is try to avoid the roamers because there isn't THAT many of them, and just ride rides. Nobody is forcing you to watch the shows or go through the Haunts.....

^^You're right no one is forcing anyone to watch the shows or go through the haunts, but the point is that people should want to watch the shows and go through the haunts. From what I've seen, the edgy, "adult-oriented" shows at Halloween Haunt have not gone over well, but that's just my observation.

I am a big fan of Halloween events, I love haunted houses and the park's atmosphere this time of year. But I don't think constantly going out of their way to shock people is a good strategy for the park. I wish they would try and take a more creative approach getting scares. Like I said, I don't mind the blood and gore all that much, but why does that have to be the main theme throughout the event?

Remember when Paramount transformed Rivertown into Sleepy Hallow? What are we getting this year? Midget wrestling in the Festhaus... I think a more light-hearted Halloween show would be a perfect fit for the stage.

I am optimistic about Wolf Pack and am curious to see how it turns out, but I still do not like the direction our Halloween event has taken since it's name changed to Halloween Haunt. I think there are more creative ways to scare people, that it is ok to have some light-hearted shows that showcase the fun/spooky side of Halloween, and that there is a better way to decorate the park then just to have skeletons on metal poles everywhere...

Soo, quick update.. I went to SCarowinds again both days this weekend, Friday and Saturday. Driving home at 1 am for 90 mins is a ***** though haha. It definately was more crowded than opening weekend. Saturday was hellish bc they had a concert or something going on. The police had the gold/platinum pass enterance blocked off till i went by soo that ****ed me off because we had to wait in the long line. Ticket lines are pretty barable, they move fast. There definately aren't many scare-actors walking around, pretty sure i've seen the same people every night. I LOVELOVELOVE the walk through haunts where you dont have to wait. Finally went in cornstalkers, suprised, one of the best!! Defex is definately one of the worse still.
