Favorite Disney Park: U.S. Only

Recommended Posts

pretty much to sum the reason for this poll up is that i thought it would be interesting to see how diverse the thoughts of the KICentral universe are when it comes to the disney parks in the u.s.

my favorite park is epcot, i love the theming there and i love the basis of the park; the future and countries of the world.

the only problem is that i've only been to the four parks in florida. :)

I have to agree with the majority about Disney's Hollywood Studios. It's such an incredible park. Of all the U.S. Disney parks, it, to me, has the most "class" and character. It tells the most immersive story, and it has the most originality in its conception and execution. As many know, I prefer Universal Orlando over Walt Disney World. Even so, I prefer Disney's Hollywood Studios to Universal Studios Florida (perhaps with the exception of The Mummy, which I think is one of USF's only really excellent rides).

Disney's California Adventure is also a very nice park. The problems that have been perceived about it do have merit, though - it has far, far less to offer on most every level than the neighboring Disneyland Park, and yet has the same entry fee. Also, its conception is highly lacking. Jim Hill Media reports that the idea behind it really was as simple as "Let's simulate the rest of California so guests don't have to leave Disneyland to get the whole experience." Budget cuts really when wild, too.

Animal Kingdom is a very nice park for what it is, but it's not my cup of tea. The "castle" parks are both very special and memorable, and I know many who actually find Epcot to be the best park of the four. To each his or her own.

We took a week long trip to WDW when I was in 3rd (maybe 4th) grade. I liked Magic Kingdom the most then, but I think if I was to go back today Epcot would be my favorite. Magic Kingdom is every kid's dream, but Epcot is amazing and has something that everyone can enjoy. Diseny's (MGM) Studios was fun for the shows that they had. I liked Animal Kingdom, but of the four it was my least favorite. Great properties, and I think that they should be looked at as much more than just theme parks.

I absolutely love Epcot! I want to travel the world when I'm older especially to Europe and this is a great way to get a taste of it. After Epcot, I like Magic Kingdom mostly because it has some great theming and rides that are themed to movies and it just feels magical (duh :P) Then I probably would go with Animal Kingdom because it has some unique experiences that aren't available in other parks. Hollywood Studios has good rides and shows but my three favorite attractions there are One Man's Dream, The Magic of Disney Animation, and Toy Story Midway Mania. One Man't Dream tells the history of Walt Disney, the parks, and Mickey Mouse (I love history so this really interested me.) The Magic of Disney Animation, which we spent a good two hours in just learning how to draw some of the characters, is an attraction where you first learn about Disney Animation and then get to try to draw some of the characters. Toy Story Midway Mania is an absolutely amazing attraction that is unique from other shooting rides and it is themed to one of the best Disney movies, Toy Story. Even the queue is cool! Overall all four of WDW's theme parks are amazing so it is hard to choose your favorite. As you can see I and my family LOVE Walt Disney World.

Couldn't actually vote for a couple of reasons - I've been to all 4 WDW and Disneyland, but not California Adventure and the favorite park is just impossible to answer as it all depends upon what I am looking to do on a given day. I love the fact that at WDW, there is such a variety of options and it is a great place to spend several days.

That's a tough one... let me add some qualifiers.

EPCOT was first to come to mind, though more realistically the pre-Epcot'94 park, back when it was EPCOT Center. The scale of the place is incredible, the architecture ranges from interesting to jaw-dropping, and the optimistic tone and theme of the attractions is incredible. While the concept, from an outside point of view, is kind of disjointed (half world's far, half future/science expo), the execution is flawless and the stories are tied together with the concept of "the human experience."

Since the focus shifted from the "optimistic future" to the "commercialism now", the overall experience has gotten quite muddled. Horizons was allowed to literally rot in full view of guests, and was bulldozed to be replaced with a very un-futuristic simulated trip to space. Worse, they copped out of the story, exposing to the guest that the entire thing is meant to be a simulation. So, you're experience is a simulated simulation. Mission:Space, while cool in it's own right, carries none of the future-optimism that Horizons epitomized. The futuristic "Living Seas" with SeaBase Alpha was replaced by Nemo. Now, in both cases, they did a good job updating older, run down pavilions with newer, more popular attractions. But they've totally lost focus of what EPCOT Center was supposed to be. Oh well, I still love it.

Disney's Hollywood Studios is a perfect example of environmental intimacy, with even better sense of realism and escape than the best of the Magic Kingdom. The different areas are getting to be better defined, the attractions lineup is finally getting fleshed out, and most importantly, they never lost the attention to detail and story.

After eating, breathing, and sleeping, the Magic Kingdom for just about 2 years, I have to say it is still my favorite park. I think it is because I look at the park much more from an engineering standpoint and the utilization of the lower level, even after working down there, still amazes me. Plus after all the projects I was on, I feel as though I have a stake in many of the MK rides. And I'll never forget my time at the Jungle Cruise.

Epcot, only because it had two of my favorite rides: Spaceship Earth (Jeremy Irons version, NOT the 2007 "upgrade"), and Journey Into Imagination (am I the only one who didn't hate the second version? Obviously the first was best but it's not coming back, sooo...)

Everything after 3:06 sums up why I miss the 1994 Spaceship Earth...
