CoastersRZ
Well, that certainly seems to add some credibility to the rumors, lol. I would think the basketball game that would have to be removed would be reinstalled elsewhere in the park, as that is a direct source of revenue. (Of course I am assuming it is similar to the 3 Point Challenge venues that Cedar Fair has installed at their parks. But it could be the standard basketball backboard game as well. Still, I`d imagine it will be relocated.
bkroz
Of course, this is a turbulent industry nowadays. Remember the approved permits for that stand-up roller coaster at Six Flags Great America? How about when a Cedar Point stomach-dropping classic was all but ready to re-emerge at Knott's? And not too long after that, that same West Coast park seemed to momentarily doubt that their already-announced attraction was coming at all, only to have the proverbial winds carry it to a significantly different section of the park. Cedar Point's swinging ship was setting sail permanently (a good year after their rapids ride opened too late, in more ways than one), but changed course to head towards the front of the park, where many thought a CGI woodie was headed (to replace the one that had been announced - but never emerged - at a former Paramount Park that shares a name with the originally-intended destination of said stand-up roller coaster that is now a good way into construction at a park that our own Interpreter holds near and dear). And then there's the matter of a certain roller coaster in Florida, from which you can hunt cheetahs, or something... Wasn't that all-but-confirmed to have a name matching the style of the parks other roller coasters, with paperwork, concept art, and even an official's slip-up using the name that it ended up not having? And not more than a hundred or so miles to the north, Snow White is out, the Dwarves are in, and the circus is in town for good, despite initial, official plans stating the opposite... The take home message? "No comment" might be the best answer anyone can give right now. Things change a lot around these parts...
CedarPointer
I was on that ride about 20 yrs ago in Wildwood, NJ it was called The Sea Serpent they had the same problem with the train getting stuck in the middle of the loop even back then It was SO neat when they flipped the track upside down to make it an inverted coaster, eh? Creed Bratton
Renamed to Stinger!
thekidd33
I actually don't hate that name.
kingsrattler
The image plays really well with the design of the coaster. Somebody in Graphical Design actually did their job.
Creed Bratton
I think the graphic is great and the name is great!
KIBOB
Cedar Point's swinging ship was setting sail permanently (a good year after their rapids ride opened too late, in more ways than one), but changed course to head towards the front of the park, where many thought a CGI woodie was headed (to replace the one that had been announced - but never emerged - at a former Paramount Park that shares a name with the originally-intended destination of said stand-up roller coaster that is now a good way into construction at a park that our own Interpreter holds near and dear). That CGI woodie that was originally intended for CGA has been constructed and goes by the name of Prowler. I forgot where I read it, but there was a Q&A with Kinzel and one of the questions had to do with "When will Cedar Fair ever invest capital into a new ride at CGA." The response; "We had plans to build a wooden rollercoaster, but our disputes with the landlord had blocked the plans, so we instead moved the planned coater to Worlds of Fun."...or something similar to that. KIBOB, just trying to be informative, regardless if it helps or not. EDIT: I just realized that the post I quoted by goodyellowkorn was from February. Sorry folks! bkroz
http://www.dorneypar...ers/stinger.cfm When I first heard via Screamscape that Cedar Fair had trademarked the name Stinger, my first impression was that this Boomerang would be getting a Sting-ray theme (which actually fits the shape of the ride well, too). Something interesting to me: if you click "map" and view it's location, the map actually has a little construction zone! That's a cool touch. Also strange is that it's located right next to their Intamin Twisted Impulse Coaster, which is arguably a more technological, next-generation version of a Boomerang... Two low capacity, forwards/backwards shuttle coasters right next to eachother on a dead-end path should make for a very interesting area and very fun queue lines! Haha. Feel your heart pump with adrenaline after experiencing this scorpion's sting! Sit back and find yourself dangling from the scorpion tail seated face-to-face with your friends as you each sit witness to the others terror. You'll scream your face off as you are lifted up a 138-foot lift hill and then released to soar at speeds reaching 55 miles per hour through three inversions both forward and then backward. Still hangin' on.
