standbyme
These long winded rants comparing it to how it's not as "visually captivating" as the last one is irelavent. The map isn't designed with that purpose - to try and be a more beautiful piece of art than the last. It's designed with a function, to provide information. In the big picture I would say that you are 100% correct, the map's only function is just to make sure the guests can get from Point A to Point B. The problem I have is what's so wrong about criticizing the park for not setting their bar a little higher and hire someone a little more creative? The park certainly wants us to oooh & aaaah over what they think is great...why can't we do the reverse when we feel they didn't give it their all? In my opinion the "perfect" park map is not only functional but something that is visually appealing enough to excite the guests. I still have fond memories of my family going to the park when I was little...we would open up the map and start pointing excitedly "I want to do that...and that, and that!" P.S. And I also find abandoned buildings interesting.

So you don't believe this map will excite guests? What is the KI map missing compared to the maps that excited you when you were little? Hendrick
I'm not a huge fan of it, but it's a map. I never even look at one. Just a few more trees would be nice (everything seems so spaced out, I think the trees would help "fill in" the map.)
standbyme
What is the KI map missing compared to the maps that excited you when you were little? Don't get me wrong...the maps haven't been "great" for years...it just seems like they are getting colder and colder as the years go on. Where is the person with imagination? I would be happy with a combination of this type of map and the type that they used to sell. The map needs personality...have some Peanuts characters thrown in around Planet Snoopy, put a couple of cartoons of park guests enjoying things like The Eiffel Tower's observation deck...highlight a few of the "main" attractions by making them stand out with their official logo...celebrate a rides anniversary on the map like Adventure Express' 20th. Overall I would like to see it more like a kids coloring book.
Browntggrr
^ I can understand that (especially the 20th for AE), but I still don't see how kids today will not get excited about seeing the rides on the current map. And let's face it, the park is about rides & entertainment. The color of track on a map or the lack of trees does not effect the park's entertainment value. The park also has guests that don't know where they are going and would only feel like Peanuts characters etc. only clutter the map discouraging their sense of direction. But you do bring up an intresting point. If the park would add Peanuts characters (and other like things) that would open the door for some to complain about how the park is over marketing their brand. KIfan73
I would like to see Kings Island periodically offer a collector map (one you could frame) in the gift shops.
standbyme
I would like to see Kings Island periodically offer a collector map (one you could frame) in the gift shops. Those days appear to be over. As you probably already know, the last retail map was back in 2002 for the park's 30th Anniversary. It would really make my year if the park put one out for the 40th*. Out of all the Kings Island items I own you would only find 3 of them displayed in my home...and 2 of those items are framed maps. P.S. I have noticed that even Walt Disney World does not sell maps. (DisneyLAND does though.) *Assuming it looks nicer than the handout map. Edit: For Delirium13, I noticed my mistake...and tried to switch it but you beat me! Delirium13
Well technically if they were putting a map out for the 40th anniversary that would be next season, 2012. Edit- I misread your post, I thought I saw the words 'this year' somewhere in there, sorry I must be losing my mind... Edit 2- Just saw that you edited it, I guess I'm not losing it! KIBOB
I found a three pronged bush in Boomerang Bay!
PhantomTheater
Don't forget that CP still sells collector maps every year (As with any merchandise, it is not known to the public whether or not they will be offered this season).
standbyme
Delirium13, yes, you are not losing it...I noticed my mistake and looked to see if anyone was replying yet...then I edited the "this year" out...then your post popped up when I refreshed...sorry. Jasper
I am a proud owner of the 30th Anniversary map as well, I think that was the same year the Unofficial Guide Book to PKI came out, which was something I have read cover to cover several times. KIfan1980
Random thought - from the renderings, it looks like WindSeeker will turn counter-clockwise. On the map, it shows riders facing as if riding clockwise. direction as seen from above the ride. I wonder which it will be?
CoasterGeek101
Yeah, Invertigo, kinda looks messed up, but I still like how it looks.
CedarPointer
What's the building that is shown between Diamondback's line and Rivertown Junction? Is that really there? And, is there really a volleyball court in Picnic Grove?

CedarPointer
The online map shows a volleyball court with sand. (where are people getting maps??)
Beast1979
They're giving out maps at Pass Processing. I got one today
CedarPointer
Oh. I haven't acquired one yet, I'll have to do that sometime. Wait, is the map in the park guide different from the website one? It would be if it doesn't show the volleyball thing...
Beast1979
It may be slightly, but I'm not sure.

ahank
Thought I'd post some of the general park map improvements I noticed on Saturday while comparing the regular season map to the Haunt map For one, "trees" have been added throughout the entire map! Before: After: Also, further detail has been added to the coaster tracks, such as "rails" and a little bit of shine. Maybe it's just me, but I also believe that Vortex is darker than it is on the current map. Dark blue paint job, anyone? Before: After: Finally, the loop has been added to Invertigo. Thank goodness Before: After: All in all, while I did like the park map from the regular season, I think these small added details make it look much nicer. Let's just hope they keep these improvements for next year's map
