TTD-120-420
My girlfriend and I are planning on taking a visit to the park on July 4th. Since the 4th falls on Monday this year will they still shoot off the fireworks on Monday or will they do it over the weekend? I went on the opperating schedule page on the website and it is open till midnight on that Saturday and Monday. The events page says nothing about it so I was hoping somebody here would know. I'm assuming the fireworks are a lot better on the 4th than they are on regular nights, right? On the webcam page of the KI website it has a picture of the E. Tower having fireworks shot off from it. Is that what it is like on the 4th? Thanks for the help.
CoastersRZ
They no longer shoot fireworks off of the Eiffel Tower. They did that in the early 2000`s as part of the Nights of Fire events that they had for the Fourth of July. The park usually is pretty crowded on the 4th of July. The fireworks, while not on as big of a scale as the old Nights of Fire, will likely be a little bigger than the typical nightly fireworks spectacular. I believe that the fireworks will still go off at 10pm, even though the park is open until midnight. Someone who has actually gone to the park when it is open until midnight on a Saturday could probably verify if that is indeed correct or not. And its not just KI where July 4th is big. Coney has its Balloon Glow on July 3rd, and that is typically the BUSIEST day of the entire season. (They keep Sunlite Pool open until 9:30, and the rides open to 11pm that day, with the fireworks being launched across Lake Como. Its usually a pretty good fireworks show. Although, traffic can be a bit chaotic leaving after the fireworks. They actually shut down Kellogg Avenue for the fireworks!
FOFreak
Sorry if this is off-topic or not what your looking for, but if you want an amazing fireworks display on the 4th, please consider a trip to Holiday World. It is nothing short of breathtaking. And also, it is one of the very few times a year in which you can ride Voyage after dark. This is by far worth the trip in and of itself. And generally, the 4th is surprisingly a generally calm day to go! I'm tempted to guarantee you that if you get the chance to go to Holiday World on the 4th of July, you will not be disappointed. Avatar
Honestly this is a hard one to predict as i feel the 4th of July event schedules have changed a bit but one thing almost for certian they will have fireworks like past years and they will advertise that it will be the biggest they have had to date. The firework show has evolved through the years in style, so come see it this year to share with fellow members who can not come. My family has visited Cincinnati several times during the 4th of July weekend and have never regretted it. There is so much to do on that weekend in the area you will have no trouble filling up your days and nights to make a very memorable weekend. At Kings Island last year, they had most of the park shut down for most of the day for the July 4th fireworks!
RaptorGuy
My experience with the 4th has been, light crowds in the earlier part of the day and they start building in the afternoon. By about 6 or 7, it's pretty crowded. If you're gonna watch the fireworks inside the park, plan on staying till midnight. Lots of cars come into the parking lot, just to watch the fireworks. If you stay, till midnight and ride, when you leave, you should be able to get right out!
CedarPointer
The fireworks go off at 10pm on midnight close days.
TTD-120-420
If my girlfriend's mother would let us go to Holiday World then thats where I would definately rather go, but thats not the case. She only wanted to go because she saw the picture of them shooting off fireworks from the tower, so now it looks like we will be watching CP's fireworks over the lake. Thanks again. TTD-120-420
I'm going to bring this back since new info was released since I asked the question.King's Island now says the fireworks are doubled and extended on July 2nd and 3rd. Does this mean on the 4th they are just going to have a regular show, or are all three days included? I can only make it on the 4th and if it is just going to be a regular show I'll just head the other way to watch CP's display...
Diamondback FOF
I took it as only Saturday and Sunday will have a large fireworks display.

freaks76
Looks like it's gonna be a washout here. Sayin 2 to 3 inches of rain later. Portsmouth fireworks already cancelled. Was gonna take the family to Ashland, Ky for the largest fireworks show in the area, but little did we know they moved them to last night.
King Ding Dong
^2-3 is a lot. I just checked NOAA for Portsmouth and it said 3/4", though they are usually wrong like everyone else.
