Ok so i was on the Live journal forum. I found a thing on Cicadas. They arise from the dirt every 17 years and lay eggs and die after 2 months outside. They are suppose to be in KI this summer. Does anyone remember them? I heard they are these huge disgusting bugs. But i dont know. Anyone? wink.gif

I found this article:

http://www.wcpo.com/news/2004/local/03/10/cicadas.html

I also found this quote:

So, what are these ugly bugs' favorite places?

"A nice tree in full sunlight surrounded by nice vegetation. What does that describe? It describes our front yards or our backyards or parks. So it turns out periodic cicadas are becoming more numerous in many cities," said Kritsky.

I wonder if this means that places like Action Zone won't have to worry as much.

Actually there was an article in the Cincinnati Enquirer about this a couple weeks ago. It said that there are dense pockets of the 17 year cicadas. The article specifically mentioned that there would not be a lot to the north of 275 in Cincinnati. The article even quoted an expert that said he would be surprised if PKI saw more than a few of the 17 year cicadas which emerge around the last week of May. However, the Cincinnati Zoo and UC were some of the heaviest infested areas in the Cincinnat area.

Actually there is another word for them if no one knows what a cicada is its locast there very annoying bugs that leave shells on trees and stuff. They dont harm anyone there just annoying especially at night when your trying to sleep, there worse than the annoying crickets trust me. But if memory serves me right farmers fear em i think i could be wrong but i think they do damage to fields and stuff, i could be wrong. But if they do happen to reappear be aware there everywhere. Well all have a good one.

Yeah its not going to be pretty....I can remember during the last outbreak finding it difficult to even walk from the car to the house withiut hundreds of cicadas smacking into you. Now...you know what a simple drop of rain feels like when on the Son...so just imagine what a big fat cicada would feel like. I think that some rides would have to be forced to shut down.

There are TONS of cicadas where I live because I live in the middle of the woods. They don't emerge here (Southwest VA) till mid June. If you've never really heard millions of them all sounding off at once then you'll probably go insane because it is loud. I actually love how they sound & it sings me to sleep. This year is supposed to be VA's (& other states) big 17yr outbreak. I remember seeing a few at the park once & I was hit by one on The Beast & it felt like someone threw a good size gravel at me. They don't really bother me all that bad.

Don't be surprised to find a few dead ones in the light fixtures. laugh.gif
