The Crypt is WEAK

I rode The Crypt yesterday while in the park, and while I love how they have the themeing, I feel like the ride is pretty lame and not as intense as it was/could be. It rotates slowly and isn't very fast overall (besides the ride time  )

Couldn't they reprogram something better? I know I am not the only one who thinks this and it has been this way for a while.

I dare say you've answered your own question.

Response from the public and enthusiasts has been almost entirely negative in regards to the ride cycle that the Crypt has run for the past few seasons. If the ride could operate a more intense program without sacrificing reliability, don't you think it would?

Entertainment companies don't remove wooden loops, delay ride openings, trim first drops, change ERT rides, and shorten top spin programs just to irritate and anger their visitors. There is a method to their madness (usually), and this case is one such example.

I think the ride as it is should be removed. It's not thrilling at all. It gives the allusion that it's going to be, but it builds up to a big let down. I think they should make this the last year

for it, or order a new one for maybe 2013, and run it this way one more season, as something is better than nothing. They need to get one more like Valley Fair's or Canada's Wonderland.

Those are really thrilling. I don't know about keeping them inside. They could put it in Action Zone, and it would go well there. I'd like to see them either totally tear down the Crypt building

for a new coaster like maybe a Maverick style, or keep the building and put an indoor spinning mouse in there. That would fit pretty well, I believe. But, the only redeeming quality of the

current ride is, it's air conditioned, and provides a little relief from the heat on a really hot day.

I just wish they could run a longer circuit. Back in 06' it was one of my favorite rides.

agreed! I feel like it was a great ride back then, but a lot of people still did not respect it.

Last year I named it the Stone Crusher.

sadly I know exactly what you mean

pretty interesting ideas. and I guess it the only option would be to change/remove what is there, if goodyellowkorn is right that they are doing all they can to prevent problems

From 2002 to 2006, the ride was called Tomb Raider: The Ride. It flipped upside down four times, had synchronized music, water fountains, fog, lasers, a pre-show video that established a storyline, and "icicles" on the ceiling.

When the ride was renamed The Crypt after Paramount references were removed from the park, what was left of the special effects were removed. seemingly to compensate, the ride was reprogrammed to flip upside down nine times, though with no music or effects.

In 2009, the ride was again reprogrammed to only flip upside down 2 times. Now, one little piece at a time, the themeing is returning, with the queue being attended to, new on-ride music, and some restored on-ride lighting this season alone. But it's still less themed than 2002, and less thrilling than 2008, which is why so many people have a problem with it. YouTube search "Tomb raider the ride" and you'll find very informative videos. :)

Ok, the word "trim" as used above means "added brakes". This is much more common than actually changing the profile of a drop by raising the bottom. The only coaster at KI with a trimmed first drop is Beast. It was added shortly after it opened IIRC. I believe it was added to remove some of the train's speed before the hard left turn into the second hill. This is most likely to save on track wear and tear.

Another example would be Mean Streak at Cedar Point which also has a trim on the first drop. Again, this saves on maintenance costs because the train does not damage the track as a fast due to lower speeds.

The Crypt is a flawed ride. It is the only Huss Giant Top Spin for a reason.
