Titan
Okay, so I am doing a project on the former attractions at Kings Island. I'm pretty sure I have most of the attractions, but can you guys please read over the list and tell me if I'm missing something. Shaggy
Are you primarily interested in rides? If not, there's lots more "attractions" that are now defunct... House of Cards Puppet Tree Handcarts Frontier Trail Pioneer Landing Nickelodeon Slime Shower McScrappy's Farm Nickelodeon Splat City Climbing Structure etc etc etc
Titan
Right now I'm only doing the rides. The for the next part I was going to do the attractions like the Lion County Safari Monorail and Shawnee Landing. Then go onto the areas like Adventure Village and The Happy Land of Hannah Barbera. And before someone asks me what this is for, we have a small historical library here. And They asked for someone to do a exhibit on Kings Island, so I volunteered for it. I'm also looking for some pictures of the park in the early 70's and 80's. Does anyone have some pictures I could use? I only need a couple. Thrill_Biscuit
Marathon Turnpike? Saltwater Circus... Scooby's Scooners...
Titan
Marathon Turnpike was the original name for Sunshine Turnpike, so that one I already have. And Salt Water Circus will be on the second part. But when was Scooby's Scooners built and removed?
qscott86
Although Wikipedia says Wheel of Fortune closed in 1990, I don't think that's right. In the Brady Bunch episode, they did a popup trivia special and it says that it closed 11 years later which would have been 1984. Edit: It is 1984 - Wikipedia corrected it - a vandal changed it to 1990. You're missing the Lion Country Safari Monorail (1973-1993)
Titan
Thanks, I never would have guessed that. And does anyone know if the Fas Tracks water slide opened with Water Works?
PKIVortex
Yes it opened in 1989!

Tanna
Why am I not remembering Booboo's baggage claim? It sounds very non-exciting.
Titan
I'm pretty sure it's a tea cup style ride.
CoastersNSich
I think the parking lot trams were last used in either 2004 or 05, some of the cars were repainted with a blue with yellow stars and a retro font saying "Paramount's Kings Island" on it in those last years. Titan
Yeah, I saw that someone posted a trip report a while back and it had the repainted trams.
The Interpreter
Why am I not remembering Booboo's baggage claim? It sounds very non-exciting. It was a kiddie Tumble Bug. Worlds of Fun had one with the same name.
Tanna
Now I recall. Thanks

It wasn't a ride; it was a pay-to-play remote-controlled boat attraction, but I'm not sure what part of the park it was in. I played it a bunch of times in 1985, before I started paying attention to which area of the park I was in. I'm guessing the pond in Oktoberfest, on the south 'shore'. Shaggy
The attraction most people don't recall was a game/ride that was located in Rivertown for just part of one season I believe. It was located in the spot adjacent to the Kings Mill Log Flume in the general spot of the Wheel of Fortune (after it's demise.) The attraction was a boat that floated around in a huge tank of water, and you could pay to shoot at the drive of the boat, while they shot back. I can't for the life of me recall the name of it. I only recall watching it once, and it had to either be the late 1980s or very early 1990s. Shaggy

I just couldn't recall if Ki's was called that or something different. BTW, Indiana Beach had one for years... also I think Knoebels has (or had) one. KI-ORIG-EMP
As a litter getter, I hated the Boat Tag with all my heart. Only because people would go into the rest rooms and ring out their cloths after getting soaked. It made for a very wet floor that I had to try to keep dry. Could this be it? 1995 was the first season I worked at KI and this attraction was part of Rivertown Games. That area was reconfigured into "Beast Games" the following season as new games were added to Nickelodeon and split from Rivertown. I can confirm that this attraction was indeed called Boat Tag (at least, that's what we called it). The attraction was a neat idea, but guests reception was unenthusiastic. I had to clean the pool out on one of my shifts as it was located near several trees. So there you go Thanks for the pic! I love seeing that old stuff! ~Josh
