Was Skylab the first Giant?

Could Skylab have been the first "unofficial" HUSS Giant? I ask this because Skylab's cars had two compartments that held two people each. While current enterprise rides have single two person cars. Not sure if Skylab was taller than others though.

SKYLAB, now and forever the best defunct ride at PKI!

No. That's Delirium. We're talking about a ride that's gone now. It was in between The Racer and King Cobra I believe.

I heard that the reason they got rid of Skylab was because someone got drunk, slipped through the bars, and then flew out and died. It sounds a little far-fetched to me, anyone else here about why they got rid of it?

The reason Skylab was removed from the park, was because it had too many mechinal problems. Back in 1991 the arm that would hold the ride up, mulfunctioned and it did not run the rest of the 1991 season. At the end of the 1991 season it was removed and sent over to germany to be repaired, as it was not even in the park for the 1992 season. I remember in 1992 for the 20th anniversary they had a bunch of old news paper articles in the area where Skylab was. It did however returned for the 1993 season and it opend once again in June of 1993. I belive it ran thru the 1996 season, and was SBNO during the 1997 season. I'm not really sure the exact year that it was actually removed. But I believe it was complety gone in 1998. If anyone knows the exact dates let me know. Thanks.

Thats why they got rid of flight commander.

Actually Flight Commander was not removed because the woman died on it. Remember it did re-open. The girl died on it in 1991 and was closed for investagtion thru out the 1992 season, and re-opened in 1993, and ran thru the end of the 1995. I remember during the 1996 season they had a sign out in the grass in front of where Flight Commander was that said "Watch for a new ride DROPPING in next summer". Drop Zone was actually suspose to go there for the 1997 season, but at the last minute decieded against that.

Now that would have totally changed the park as we know it now! If DZ would have been put where Flight Commander is, AZ would probably not be AZ.

i remember that sign as well.... i kept thinkin we may have been gettin a parachute drop.... lol... old school, but anyway back in 96 when that sign was up i was like 11 or something... wasnt yet an enthusiast, and did not yet know of what would have probably been a first generation Drop Tower... much like hell-o-vator at SFKK...

Yes Drop Zones original location was supposed to be the old Flight Commander Pad....and yes it was going to be a first generaton tower, much similar to SFKK, or Drop Zone at PGA. However the deal was cut off and the park decided to hold off a few years untill the gyro-drop was developed.

I wouldn't be too sad about the pay-per-play Euro-Bungies being removed...... wink.gifcool.gif

First off, shman I love your screen name. And second, I think it was good that they waited for Drop Zone. I'm much happier that they got a great ride instead of another Bat, not that it's not a good ride it just wasn't quite ready...? You know what I'm talking about.

Skylab was a great ride. It was one of my favorites. The fact that no type of restraint system was used realy made it a fun ride. I wish PKI could add another similar to it one year when they can.

I believe it was removed due to mechanical problems that plaqued it.
