Jeorby Nanpa
I just got back from KI after being a loyal season pass holder for three years. I'm feeling a bit negative about tonight's visit and this may upset the fanboys on this board. All I can do is tell the truth. Upon entering the gates, I went directly to Holiday Horror near Peanuts Playhouse. After standing in line about 25 minutes, I left at 7:40 since the attraction was not yet open. No explanation given. I went to Massacre Manor and the same was true here: for some reason, this attraction could not open on time! At this point I felt the haunt was quite an amateur production (fans, quench yourselves!) and someone should have worked out the kinks before opening night. Club Blood and Slaughter House were just fine. Wolf Pack was too dark to see the anthropomorphic characters but this is an old complaint. Urgent Scare was adequate, if not half the length of the previous production. Even standing in line you get the distinct feeling that everyone involved is "phoning it in" with the goal of making it to 1AM without falling asleep. As a loyal Kings Island customer, I can compare visits from year to year. Although I can expect change, I can assume that any changes will be for the better. Unfortunately, this year's Halloween Haunt did not live up to the high standards that KI usually gives. Its clear to see that there's no spark to motivate the management or actors to produce something special. It may be because I'm so familiar with the place. Tonight's trip feels a bit "corporate" instead giving visitors an emotional investment in entertainment.
bkroz
It's also early on in the season, so who knows how things could change. Of course, one might expect that earlier is better when it comes to Halloween events, since a lot of the time, folks tend to have "checked out" in mid - late October. :\
Guest TombraiderTy
On the contrary, my friend and I had a phenomenal night at Kings Island's Halloween Haunt. We experienced (in order) Club Blood, Wolf Pack, Holiday Horror, Tombstone Terror-tory, Mysteria, Urgent Scare and Slaughterhouse. We also hit-up Delirium, Adventure Express, Beast, WindSeeker, Vortex (twice), Diamondback and Boo Blasters (twice). Overall, definitely a fantastic time. I doubt I'll be creating a trip report, so I guess this post would be the ideal place to quickly share my thoughts and opinions on various things... -The transformation of International Street into the new cemetery scare-zone is great - it definitely adds interest to the otherwise bland street of shops and food stands. -Nightmare Alley is wonderfully done - beyond the creepy atmosphere with Character Carousel continually running and the new big-top scrims hung from Woodstock Whirlybirds, the performers were all energetic and interesting. -Holiday Horror was a slight disappointment in terms of sets and scares, although the Easter set-up was intricate and interesting. I did like how the attraction progressed through the holidays in chronological order, however. -Boo Blasters on Boo Hill (because, believe it or not, it is open during Halloween Haunt) was the same-old attraction with an interesting new twist. Definitely reminiscent of the Museum of Horrors, for any of you Kings Island history buffs -Urgent Scare was severely trimmed-down with WindSeeker / Dinosaurs Alive 3D, but what remained was still fun and interesting -Mysteria is practically Death Row with new lighting effects, removal of all blood/gore and a costume change. All the performers were wearing spandex-like body outfits which were far more unusual than scary, although perhaps that's what the park was aiming for -Wolf Pack was an improvement over last year with more wolves (as I recall, more performers were "victims" last year, which didn't really work too well) Once again, fantastic night at Haunt. Possibly one of the best nights I've been to the event since I started attending in 2003, actually. Hopefully the next couple weeks continue to improve as the park works-out any flaws and the performers become more-and-more familiar and comfortable with their positions. RingMaster
OK, someone has to answer my question that I have. Did they bring back the worksite, or did WCPO just reuse footage from past years?
UnrealNightmare
No they didn't bring back the worksite. Not that I saw anyways. I too had a pretty bad experience tonight. Urgent Scare is horrible now. I miss the que and the outdoor section of the maze. Holiday Horror was a huge disappointment. I too got in line right at 7 and we waited till 7:50 before we got to go through. And we would have left sooner but the guy at the front kept telling us it would only be another ten minutes. Slaughter House was good as usual, Wolf Pack was better than last year. But all they did was stand there and didn't even scream or make noises when they jumped out if they even did that. Corn Stalkers was lame as usual even in its new location. And they removed the fog from The Beast but the creature thing is still there but they removed the strobe light. LongLiveTheSmurfRide
I'm excited for them to have a Scare Zone, so did anyone besides TombraiderTy like it?
UnrealNightmare
What I'm hearing from a lot of my friends is no.
jcgoble3
I'm excited for them to have a Scare Zone, so did anyone besides TombraiderTy like it? I liked it. Very interesting, and the actors were really into it.
UnrealNightmare
It didn't seem to me like they were into it at all. Most of the houses I went through they were just standing in the path not even hiding. And they'd wait for you to pass then scream as high pitched as they could. Which was really more annoying than scary.
standbyme
Once again, fantastic night at Haunt. Possibly one of the best nights I've been to the event since I started attending in 2003, actually. Quite a bold statement. I do trust your opinion...so I hope you are not setting me up for a fall. coasterfanatic83
And they removed the fog from The Beast but the creature thing is still there but they removed the strobe light. The fog was there on Saturday
UnrealNightmare
And they removed the fog from The Beast but the creature thing is still there but they removed the strobe light. The fog was there on Saturday Good Cuz it wasn't on Friday. But it was pitch black and I found that my first ride of the night on Beast was better than Diamondback but my second one not so much.
